Not hourly, daily or weekly if there's nothing to say, of course. But some feedback is appreciated. If ED creates an official update post, flamers don't really have a point flooding the forums asking "where's the update". It's a win/win for everyone, I would say. Since yesterday, there hasn't been much information about this update. It's not even about the new features anymore, it's about the bug fixes that are due, rendering the sim a bit slow and buggy. They are busy, the forum may not be a priority, but it only takes a couple of minutes to write a simple update to keep people in the loop. That's all. And please, don't think all people that ask about the updates are abrasive. Some of us love DCS and just want to fly it with its full potential. At least that's my vision.

Though I understand some people are abrasive and hard to deal with, it's not hard for an ED representative come to this forum, the official forum, and provide proper feedback regarding updates on development and/or delays. Every time people ask for information, it takes pages of posts until someone replies like you kindly did just here. It's not about the post not coming in due time, rational people are comprehensive and understand the complexity of these updates. It's the lack of communication saying: "sorry guys, these bugs are taking a bit longer" without the necessity to ask "how's the update" every time it misses the target date.

How about today, is the update coming? Or should we wait for friday?

I think this Stennis will never be improved upon what it already is. If you want to have a better platform, better wait for the two new Carriers, that other Stennis ED will sell separately or the new Forrestal class HB is building.

If it means we don't get stupid bugs we usually do when ED and third party devs rush their updates without testing, then I don't mind waiting, honestly. I mean, this is a Beta! Some people just forget this once and a while. This is supposed to be a constantly patched build with upgrades and corrections. What I don't like is the lack of communication when something is done and/or messed up. ED needs to improve the way they communicate with the users. That's all I think needs some work. We are all waiting patiently and deserve some regular intel. Like Mr. Wagner does with the Hornet from time to time. Only... DCS is not just about the Hornet...

Wait what? Doesn't this violate some section of the end user agreement about using this simulator for comercial purposes? This is weird.

No update today either? Wasn't it planned to upgrade the Open Beta to 2.5.5 today? Some feedback would be nice. I know most people are waiting for the F-18 new stuff, but that major promise to improve VR performance is my highest expectation. So what? Next week? This friday?

Interesting read. So there are degraded channels for TACAN? Does this mimic real life or is it just a DCS quirk?

Thank you Ironmike for this precious insight. I have two questions, if I may: 1- Can you (or would you) explain how to rectify the TACAN issue within ME. I mean, could you give me an example of a unit (say a carrier) and what I should do to prevent this? I can understand if you are reluctant to give these steps. This is a DCS issue, but there are no topics about this in this forum with proper support on this subject. 2- Is there a procedure to correct mag var in the Tomcat, then? Sorry but I come from civilian aviation where we're supposed to correct our gyro every 15 minutes using the wet compass as reference in my Cessna. Is this what you're supposed to do in the Tomcat too? Don't mind the joke, but that makes the F-14 a giant Cessna 172 :) . I thought these big jets had systems to correct this.

I'm glad to see it's not just me. (except the discount Jerry Seinfeld and his sun issues up there). If this is a general bug, I'm kind of taken aback it's not been more broadly reported and addressed. In fact, if I search "TACAN" in the forums, there are no recent topic on it, except mine reporting this in the Heatblur F-14 section (when I thought it was module specific). So, ED, there's an issue with the TACAN reliability in this simulator. Can you please take a look?

Recovering this issue. It now seems that TACAN erratic behavior is not a Tomcat exclusive issue. It seems to be happening on multiple aircraft too. I would say it looks like a DCS issue, not a module bug. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not. Double and triple checking the freqs on Mission Editor, it just seems that the TACANs stop broadcasting randomly. Reason? Unknown.

Hi At first I thought this would be an issue with the Heatblur Tomcat, but after much flying and trials, I believe this is a general issue within DCS World and not exactly related to any specific module. TACANs seem to be working erratically. Sometimes they work flawlessly, other times you don't get them to work, even if tuned repeatedly around other channels. I can't find a way to replicate this as it seems random. It happens both in MP servers or user created missions. I checked all freqs to be correct in Mission Editor. Sometimes it works, other times it won't. There aren't any duplicated freqs and I am always within range. Happens with the Hornet, Tomcat, Harrier, Mirage, heck, pretty much all aircraft. It also seems to affect ICLS as it suffers from the same erratic behavior.

Oh well. Maybe a hotfix will make the new features work later this week. The amount of work to make these bombs drop for now is a bit cumbersome anyway. For me these bombs will be much more interesting to work with when the TPOD comes, like in the A-10C. For now, most servers I fly in don't have coordinates to specific targets, nor do mission creators get into the trouble of adding waypoints to targets.

Just for the sake of accuracy: The F-16s weren't American (even if the actors were). They were Israeli. And the OPFOR were also Israeli. Not Mirages 2000C but the "far cousin" F-21 Kfir, called Mig-23...

Well, even if Jester does tune the proper TACAN in the back, it's not showing any bearing or range on my HSI. Since I only fly MP, there's no way to know if Jester is doing his job. If I tune the second TACAN on my own radio, though, I can't also get the new station. Either goes blank or just captures the previous tuned freq. I can't be the only one with this. Just try it. Go to a MP server, tune a TACAN, say a tanker, then, tune another tanker or even a carrier, asking Jester to do it or doing it yourself. Unless all the servers I fly in are bugged, the Tomcat has an issue switching TACAN freqs.

Hi I've been flying around in MP using various sources for TACAN to train interceptions with tankers and carrier ops. I've noticed that tuning TACAN via Jester he tends to tune in the first frequency correctly, but seems to not update it when I order him to change to another. So pressing the TACAN selector to me "PLT", I tune the new station but the it seems my radio doesn't tune anything. Switching back and forth doesn't work, and sometimes it just keeps the first frequency I asked Jester to tune, sometimes no TACAN is tuned, either via RIO or my panel. Is this a known bug?

There used to be a thread about this, but for some reason it was deleted. The problem is related to the station selected may not coincide with the QTY selected station. The workaround is to make sure the store selected on Stores page is the same selected in Quantity in the JDAM page, then pickle. Yes, it's a bit a nuisance. For me, I would just stay away from JDAMs for now. It's not even hitting the target properly anyway. Mine miss for about 20 meters or so.

That's another issue. When I cycle the weapons, they all seem to be assigned to the last PP target. So I programmed 4 PPTs for each weapon, following your instructions closely. But, all weapons just show me 1 target for all. I assure you that I pressed QTY and selected each station at a time.

No Crash logs or tracks, the game freezes for me whenever I try to drop a JDAM on any station.

JDAM freezes my DCS I followed Mr. Matt Wagner to drop a JDAM em PP mode. All is cool and dandy except when I pickle in range the game freezes. No crash (so no crash report or replay file is possible) just a freeze that I need to use the Task Manager to shut the game down.
