  1. That looks like a suspiciously long winded way of saying (Irish accent): 'Have you tried turning it off and on again?'
  2. It also gives the right type of muscle memory for the movements. Before I got a collective, I used the inverted throttle method and it worked, but the collective is much better. Also, I thought the Huey has a governor? might be wrong there, but you don't need to change the throttle input while flying, I just assumed it had one.
  3. I can't even tell if it's doing anything on that software IPD setting, it looks no different to me whatever it's set to.
  4. I think I might have this asymmetrical IPD thing, as I see the right side often a bit fuzzy. I found the sweet spot by just nudging the right side up a bit, which seemed to help. There's me thinking I had a perfect shaped head and it was wonky all along.
  5. I nudged MRTV to do a flight and driving sim special with his Reverb on the Youtube comments for his tracking video. I'm sure he'll do one, but a bit of encouragement might nudge him in the right direction. Sebastian from MRTV seems to own the only Reverb on the planet, so he's our best bet.
  6. Having spent a bit more time with my Rift S in a few different sims, it seems very well suited to flight sims, as the biggest jump in clarity is with foreground detail, i.e. the instrument panel. In driving sims you are looking outside the vehicle much more and I see noticeable but less striking improvement with distant landscape across all sims. I'd say DCS, X-Plane, AFS2 are the biggest winners because of that foreground clarity. The Bionik Mantis clip on phones are doing a good job too, not fantastic sound, but definitely acceptable and infinitely better than default. For £37 I'd recommend them as a first upgrade as they are attached to the headband and flip out of the way when you need them to, similar to CV1
  7. Go on, you know you deserve it Messing about in VR helicopters is one of the great priveleges of being alive in the 21st century.
  8. Only had a very brief opportunity to test mine thus far, but it looks to have some positive qualities. Biggest drawback by far, the sound, is maybe not as big a deal for flying, but for racing sims it's appalling. I already got some Mantis add on phones anticipating this and while they aren't quite as good as the CV1 phones, they are a massive improvement on the default audio and they fit quite well (not perfectly) onto the strap. Visuals are a nice upgrade though, even though I'm still messing with IPD and headstrap to get it looking right. I'm struggling with comfort compared to CV1, but there is probably a knack to getting it just right as many are saying it's more comfortable. One glitch I've had so far is that tracking completely stops after the set has been inactive for a while and you wake it up. I'm guessing here, but it really feels like a made to a price item. I was wondering why they didn't just put the S screens in the CV1 housing, that would have been a lovely piece of kit. I imagine that CV1s only started to shift off the shelves when they hit the £350 price point, but they were losing money on them for that price so not sustainable. Rift S feels like a £350 set whereas CV1 feels like a £500 item (which is what I paid for mine). So long as I can iron out the glitches it's a keeper due to the screen. If that hadn't been so good I don't think I could see this doing well, and I wonder how well it would have done if the S had come out as the CV1 three years ago. The CV1 is generally spoken of with affection and respect but I'm not sure the S will garner the same love in the long term.
  9. Bugger. Attempted delivery, coming back tomorrow. Every other thing they deliver either comes in the evening, left in the shed or with a neighbour. Not today. Sad face.
  10. It's a pity they didn't get it out the door before the Rift S pre orders. I may well have cancelled mine in favour of the Reverb, but there are too many question marks for me. Tom's Hardware couldn't get it running with Project CARS, but MRTV could for instance. I'll take the instant hit with the S and then patiently let the rest of them come out this year before deciding which way to go down the line.
  11. Very sorry to hear about your husband's illness, I'm sure you will find help here on the forum, good luck and best wishes.
  12. I'm with DonB on this one, I'll just keep my rift S order and wait for HP to sort their stuff out. Maybe later.
  13. Only question mark is over supply of this thing. I wonder how many people (like me) would probably prefer the Reverb but end up getting a Rift S because it's the only one available? I think if it's a choice between an S now (or at least the 21st) and a Reverb at some unspecified point in the future, then for me impatience wins and I'm getting the S. I've had the CV1 for three years and I feel like I've been waiting long enough for a boost in clarity. Things could still change though between now and the 21st, if the reviews are good and HP opens the shop doors, then I may well change my mind. Fun times ahead indeed.
  14. The guys in our tiny niche of the gaming world are interested in very specific things. I have no doubt that the Reverb will be great for any made for VR title. Those games and experiences are all built from the ground up to squeeze every last drop out of VR hardware, from polygon count even down to the choice of colour palette. Thing is we are all into sims that weren't originally built with VR in mind, so the likes of DCS, X-Plane etc struggle for performance compared to bespoke VR titles. That's why we are all clamouring to see tests with the kind of sim software that our community is drawn to, seated physics based simulation experiences, mostly flying and driving.Luckily there are a few wealthy and dedicated members of this community, so the testing we give it will be as robust as anywhere on the net. It's just that we will have to wait for retail release.
  15. Seems to be the only person on planet Earth that has managed to get one. At least they actually exist.

  17. I was quite disappointed to discover this the other day https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3900857&postcount=383 It might not be too bad, but I've had my CV1 for three years and I've run out of patience to wait any longer. I figure I'll live with the S for a while then let the Reverb settle in and then have another look down the line.
  18. The sound quality is my biggest worry with the S. Even the 'polite' reviews based on Oculus supplying free review units early have noted the step back in sound quality and quickly moved on. Once we get the 'Oh no Oculus ruined my life and is evil' type reviews where people have spent their own money on the unit we'll maybe get a different point of view. I just can't see how their solution can deliver acceptable sound quality given the current state of the laws of physics. I found these clip on units for PSVR, https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0735X5M4X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which I think might ease the pain before Oculus give in and release a decent audio solution. Anyway, I'm pretty excited about the Rift S overall, as the biggest improvement seems to be visual clarity whilst keeping performance and compatibility the same. Now we know that the Reverb won't reach the UK for some time yet, running the S will do the job in the short term.
  19. Just seen this on reddit, might have to wait a while for a Reverb in the UK https://www.reddit.com/r/WindowsMR/comments/bkilez/hp_reverb_not_available_in_uk_next_week_very_sad/
  20. I agree, I think there is a big question mark over how well the Reverb might work in sims. Due to the minimum spec being the same as CV1, it seems the Rift S will work at least as well, but WMR seems a bit less certain. We will see soon.
  21. Doesn't have to be a full review, we just want to know about how it performs with DCS really, although I must admit I'm curious about other sims too.
  22. Rift S has started taking pre orders, but you can't have it for another three weeks. I wonder if HP launch on May 6, but have them ready for delivery day one they could nip in there before Oculus.
  23. The problem is that Sumo wrestler's jockstrap of a headband that looks to me like putting decent headphones on will be a clumsy experience. It may be no big deal, and I think the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, so we'll see.
  24. I've ordered a Rift S, I always thought the weakest aspect of my CV1 was the tracking as I had to sit quite close to the sensors due to lack of space on my desk. Second to that is image quality, so the inside out will probably work best for me as I rarely do anything other than flying and driving sims. Price and image quality seem to be a strength of the S, but my biggest worry by far is sound quality. I can see a cobbled together solution with a small but decent pair of headphones, a hacksaw and some araldite looming in the crystal ball. Anyway, that gives me three weeks to find how the Reverb performs in sims, I'm not 100% sure about the WMR platform, but Oculus software is tried and tested. If the Reverb is as good as I dream of, then I'll cancel the Rift S and go with HP.
