You guys are doing a great job. I'm sure you can rise to the occasion for whatever challenges you choose to heroically embrace. Still, have an energy drink for good measure:

Giant, brightly colored canisters of smoke occluding my field of view. You would think, given how we are literally years past the "fool me once" stage, these guys would be more forthcoming and open about wtf is going on. -
[REQUEST] Monitor removal on L and Mistral
Scarecrow84 replied to Schmidtfire's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
I would love to have the monitor removed from the L. The visibility in the minigun version is amazing. Looks like the rivet counters wont have it though /eyeroll. Just kidding, guys. But obviously, at this point a well done FM is as much as we should be hoping for. I just hope the FM updates are in no way contingent on them getting a go ahead on the Kiowa, which has been a pretty quiet front since the intro video and interview... -

Polychop Simulations OH-58D Kiowa
Scarecrow84 replied to Polychop Simulations's topic in DCS: OH-58 Kiowa
I will definitely be purchasing if the Kiowa and Gazelle updates live up to these promises. Agile, light helicopters for these awesome new maps to me is just a no-brainer... I was one of the biggest critics back when the first gaz FM debates were raging. What happened to the guys who refused to admit something is way off about the cyclic, fly-by-wire dynamics, etc....? Maybe next time we can drop the knee jerk dev defending and thereby encourage a more timely development schedule? Just a thought, guys. I have actually had lots of fun with the module recently in the Minigun version (best cockpit visibility in DCS) and the L version for combat. I love sneaking around buildings and making hit and run dive attacks. Some of the most fun I've had in a sim, honestly. The "fraternity sim" server is great for this, btw. In case DCS is reading this, if the Kiowa comes out at a high level of all-around quality, I also plan to buy probably $200 worth of other maps and aircraft with it. This might be something to consider...Some helo guys might be holding back on other purchases while waiting for our modules and updates. Just sayin. Also just wanted to point out that, according to helisimmer.com, MSFS 2020 is not going to ship with any helos. So Polychop could not only be the only name in the game as far as quality helicopter simulation (in terms of environment graphics, multiplayer, etc.) you could potentially be looking at a huge influx of new sim customers in the near future. They will have no where else to go for light helicopters. Sounds like a good opportunity to me. -
Ok, so for the record, do we have any real reason to believe Polychop still intends to re-work the flight model? The last message I saw from them walked back from admitting it even needed work. What happened to the French pilot who came on here and was going to work with them? I've had fun with the Gaz recently, but all this still stands... https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=181563

I'll take an L as well, if that works. Username would be Scarecrow. Can I just use teamspeak, or do I need any other comms?

Any chance this update will include the fabled flight model overhaul? -
Is my system upgradeable for 2.5?
Scarecrow84 replied to Scarecrow84's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Ok, thanks for the input guys. So, I installed an SSD, and it allowed me to run DCS better than I expected. 2.5 is awesome. Framerate is good, but unfortunately I get freezes every 2-3 seconds and long freezes in multiplayer. I am considering getting a gtx 1080 graphics card (currently a 970), unless you guys think its my processor i72600 3.4ghz processor that is limiting performance. Any idea if getting a 1080 on this 2012 rig will solve the freezing problem and let me jack up settings a bit? My preload/trees/grass-clutter are all about 35%, and visible range is as low as I want to go. Visible range is "high" I think. low-medium textures. v sync on, though it doesn't seem to make much difference. 1080p monitor... Thanks p.s., I am moving and wont be able to respond for a few days... -
Is my system upgradeable for 2.5?
Scarecrow84 replied to Scarecrow84's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
"It doesn't make sense to run OS from HDD if you have SSD." Just to be clear - would only running DCS on the SSD, and the OS from the HDD, give me the same performance improvement in DCS as all on the SSD? I don't really want to deal with re installing my OS and all my programs, and have no idea how to partition a drive... Thanks -
Is my system upgradeable for 2.5?
Scarecrow84 replied to Scarecrow84's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the answers guys. Is installing an SSD to run DCS a pretty simple job? Do you just mount and plug in the drive to power supply and motherboard, or do you have to do much formatting or anything too technical on the software side? From what I read elsewhere, my windows 7 home premium wont allow more than 16 gigs of ram anyway, so that appears to be a no-go. I will have to upgrade to win 10 at the end of the year anyway, but I'd like to put it off. Thanks again! -
Hello Gents I'm late for work, so have to be short here. Can anyone give me some guidance on what my options are for upgrading my ca. 2012 gaming pc to run 2.5? I still run the old 1.5, and haven't given the new versions a shot since 2.0 Normandy, which was very stuttery. Gateway Intel core i7-2600 @3.4ghz 3.4ghz (how its stated under "system"...) 16.0 GB ram 64 bit Nvidia gtx 970; 4096 mb GDDR5 550 W power supply no SSD Win7 1080p monitor I am hoping I can add a (now cheap I hear) gtx1080p, 16 more Gs of Ram, and an SSD. Any input on the SSD would be appreciated - could I set it up to only have DCS run on the SSD? I really know nothing about any of these items Im looking at adding, their compatibility, etc. I am dying to fly in 2.5, get some of the new jets, etc... Thanks

How to build a gaming cmputer/purchase one
Scarecrow84 replied to SC86's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the responses, guys. I am personally quite happy with my 1080p bigscreen and track ir...always seemed kind of perfect for flight simulation to me. Maybe I should pick one of those up...not that I can afford any of this, but I did spend like 4 years waiting for 2.5, so... -
How to build a gaming cmputer/purchase one
Scarecrow84 replied to SC86's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I was hoping to put together a system to run 2.5 smoothly (non VR, at least for now) for under $1500. Is this realistic? Thanks -
Thank you for your efforts, Damcopter. Most of us who can discern the FM problems have given up on trying to even explain them to the fanboys. Last time I tried, some master of dispassionate reasoned argument referred to me as a "turd", so good luck.

You dont need specific hard data to get the fundamental cyclic dynamics right. Ridiculous.
-
So you guys finally admit the obvious about the cyclic, but now correcting it isnt 'worth the effort'? What a huge disappointment this whole thing has been.
-
No, that would depend on where it hits. So, for the L to be at all playable against the most light of enemies, there would need to be some damage tolerance.
-
It's simply unplayable in combat as the L-version. A single AK hit and you are done. Maybe more realistic than before, but its unplayable due to the superhuman ground force AI, if nothing else.
-
Since the latest update, it seems the chopper can't take a single infantry bullet without catastrophic failure. This has made gunship-type combat pretty much impossible, from what I can tell. The L-version weapons are awesome, hope this damage sensitivity can get dialed back. Thanks

Centric nature of the cyclic in the Gazelle.
Scarecrow84 replied to FragBum's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
I hope the original question about the cyclic dynamics from this post doesn't get lost in the discussion... I raised the same question a long time ago: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=181563 -
Centric nature of the cyclic in the Gazelle.
Scarecrow84 replied to FragBum's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
This was supposedly going to happen way back in June. I understand being respectful and diplomatic, but we are looking at a year and a half of waiting for these updates and lo and behold they are yet another disappointment. The flight model needs a fundamental overhaul or re-do, and that does not appear to be in the works. -
Thanks for the in-depth reply. The Huey (hey you brought it up! lol) does not require this re-centering/counter acting of every cyclic input. Is this due to fundamental differences in the blade systems? I posted youtube videos of the gazelle cyclic in action, and it didn't behave the way it does in your sim. When accelerating, the cyclic moves to a new forward position and stays there, or stays to the side when turning. Im sure a degree of counter acting is realistic, but the overall dynamics don't match up with the video evidence... I understand there would be some delay due to inertia (object at rest stays at rest, blade flex, etc.), it just seems like the degree is off. The heli seems to behave like a much heavier helicopter. I would guess a 500 ms delay between input and reaction. The original flight model was nice and snappy in this regard.
