This weekend, I had the honor of speaking with Rex Rivolo, a USAF pilot who flew F-4s in Vietnam and played a critical role in evaluating the F/A-18 Hornet. This is the first of two or three interviews, as his career is extremely broad and rich, which also included several thousand additional hours in HH-3s and Blackhawks (which went entirely untapped in this first interview). This first interview is more of an introduction to his career, although some topics are discussed at length, such as 1960s era bomb delivery, SAM avoidance, the F-4, flying in Vietnam, and Rex’s impression of the Hornet. I’m also compiling a list of questions for the next couple interviews. If you have specific questions about the F-4, F-18, or 1960s-70s era combat aviation, post them here, and I will pick among the best for the next interview. Please don't be upset if I'm not able to get all the questions into an hour/hour-and-a-half interview. Hope you enjoy! PS - This is my first time interviewing someone, ever, so...ya know...bear with me :)

At the risk of necroposting, I too would like to know the status of this. I am noticing considerable altimeter lag (+300-400 feet), which makes using real-life bomb tables especially difficult.

Well if you want collision mapping then it's going to have to have some kind of asset data.

Same here. The only major performance bug I've noticed in 2.0.5 with regards to the Mig-21 is the spawn-in FPS decrease when sitting next to another Mig-21. It goes away as soon as either aircraft moves. That and the interior lights don't work as they do in 1.5 :( Other than that, 2.0.5 is the better performing of the two installs by several country miles, in my opinion.

Hey there, We're always looking for more CA players at the 924th. We have a lot of people from around the world, including quite a few from Europe. I'd love to get another person proficient with CA. Let me know if you're interested. We could really use you!
-
You are correct. Our dedicated server uses a default account with no modules.

Replays have been busted and useless for certain airplanes for a long time. It's impossible to record a landing with the Mig-21 because the instant you touch down, it skids off the runway and rolls into a cigar. I'm not sure it's something Leatherneck can fix. It's an issue with how replays are recorded and played back in general.

Hoping for the best! With the expanding helicopter roster and your own Harrier coming down the pipe, this certainly has some amazing scenario possibilities running through my mind.
-
Can this be expected with the Harrier release?

Learn. Get better. There are dozens upon dozens of tutorials on YouTube in multiple languages. The DCS A-10C is one of the best-documented sims ever made, both on the part of the devs and the sim's fans. :book:
-
I can't even begin to imagine DCS with this kind of cloud realism and have it be simulated properly. It would add so much life to the sim. After having flown DCS for so long with the same sort of clouds, this...this is just unimaginable. Would rock my world.

Thanks for taking the time to show this at such an early stage. Looking good!

It seems that he took it down after a split second. Holding out hope we get something juicy.

Experiencing the same issue here. I'm trying to do the startup tutorial and I can't progress because my trim won't move, despite it being clearly mapped (and recognized) in the controls menu.

[REPORTED] Magnetic Course Correction not working
Wyatt109 replied to Moafuleum's topic in Bugs and Problems
Course correction knob for magnetic declination seems inoperative It won't turn but it seems like it should be able to. I think you'd want this available when the Viggen is released for NTTR. -
Livery selection as part of the refuel/rearm window
Wyatt109 replied to Wyatt109's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Obviously it wouldn't be painted at the same time as being rearmed and refuled in real life, but in DCS, livery setup is a pain in the mission editor, especially if your group has gone through the trouble of making pilot-specific skins. It would be so easy to just change that on the same screen, even if it isn't 100% "immersive". And if that's not an option you want included in your missions, then you could just set it that way in the mission difficulty options like any other mission. -
Livery selection as part of the refuel/rearm window
Wyatt109 replied to Wyatt109's topic in DCS Core Wish List
That's exactly what I said in my post  -
Hopefully simple to do, and it would work wonders for free-flight servers with friends. "On/Off" switch could be implemented like most other multiplayer options - right in the mission editor where all the other map, label, and unlimited ammo options are set.

Thanks, GGTharos! I thought as much, but wanted to know for sure.

Right, but a gimbal limit or airframe/ordnance obstructing the lens isn't a fault. It's just that you need to modify your plane of motion so it has visibility again. Often raising or lowering a wing is enough to do it, provided you're not getting wild, and if so, find it and set a markpoint as discussed earlier in the thread.

Saved, in the event that our group has someone with only an Extreme 3D! This is great work!

~3 years of experience and accumulated anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that it's pretty close, but I'd like to know what someone with good physics/math knowledge has to say. Mainly I'm interested in kinematic ranging through either altitude or speed, but anything else is cool too.

Hey there! The 924th started as a US group but we now have people in the UK and Europe and are trying to add more. We make a lot of our own scenarios and are very active throughout the week, with planned ops during the weekend (most of the time). I'll send you a PM with some Discord info!
