  1. I did not realize that this aircraft is quite close to home as the Irish Air Corps fly seven of the 9M variant. So I am interested in this now and will see if a nice livery can be done for it. Now that would be cool for us Irish DCS flyers. You can see some nice videos of it in action here: https://www.youtube.com/@TheDefenceForces/search?query=pc9 And I do have to say this photo is class. The stadium is Croke Park in Dublin. Credit to Irish Defence Forces, https://www.military.ie
  2. Great insight into surviving a SAM hit and how training saved her. A-10 Fighter Pilot who Survived a Surface to Air Missile Hit | 100+ Combat Missions | DFC | "Killer Chick" Podcast link Kim racked up over 1.8K flight hours in the Warthog; 375 of those in combat across more than 100 combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. She also has one of the coolest call signs ever: Killer Chick. For anyone who’s been on the ground and seen an A-10 on a gun run, you can understand why so many ground pounders love this platform. For Apache pilots, the A-10 is our fixed wing cousin and we feel a very close affinity with this incredible machine. Outside the cockpit, Kim led the Air Force Academy’s Center for Character and Leadership Development and, since retiring, has carried that expertise to the private sector where she provides leadership development training and team engagement.
  3. Just bought and installed it this morning! Looking forward to trying it out over the Christmas period.
  4. Can someone please clarify the actual fully discounted price for the Channel map? Currently it is $34.99 on the site, a 30% discount for everyone is what I see. I just pre-ordered the Mossie so is there an discount on the $34.99? Below is the news item on the DCS site. That is clear to me. get the mossie, get 30% off. But there is already 30% off so then it would not have made any difference if I got the Mossie or not!! Poor comms if it is from ED...
  5. Thought I was going mad yesterday in the A10C. Complete system freeze when it happens. Using the latest open beta. Log attached. dcs.zip
  6. From Reddit and Check Six. It is here on these forums somewhere but I couldn't find it. Sorry if a repost. Looks like pedals and new sticks for the Hornet and P51 going by the image. Happy days indeed. :pilotfly:
  7. http://imgur.com/a/tcrvE Here is my attempt at mounting my HOTAS on a desk. I have a (dusty) X52 and an IKEA standing/sitting desk. I was inspired by the excellent Monster Tech desk mounts. http://www.monstertech.de/en/ I bought the metal plates in a local DIY store. They are the metalwork used with wood for building roofs and such. Wood connectors I think. You can view some of them here; http://www.woodiesdiy.com/category/Wood-Connectors/1.5.2.8 So I have four 90 degree panels and four flat panels (80 x 240mm) plus two small plates (80 x 40mm). And all bolted simply together as you can see in the photos. I used a strip of industrial Velcro to hold the X52 in place. As it sits on top of the screws, it needs to be thick but it works fine. I have two largish G clamps to hold them onto the desks and they are fine. You can get four x 50mm ones that can go each side but my ones work fine. There is no real adjustment available as the holes on the plates only line up in one or two places. As my desk can move up and down I can adjust it that way. But the first time I used it, it was fine and didn’t need any vertical adjustment. I will add tape to the plates to smooth it off and smooth the corners and also cover the end of the screws. Total cost was €36 and the Velcro was the most expensive part of that. It took about 15 minutes to put them altogether. Now I need to upgrade the X52…
  8. Great stuff. My iPad just arrived last week so I would be thrilled if a version comes along. Gillers
  9. Full details of Ghost's iPad pit are here: http://www.lx200gps.nl/ Gillers
  10. I thought Ghost's iPad app was good. But this is something else again. Another reason to get an iPad! Great stuff. Gillers
  11. This community never ceases to amaze me with its work. Great stuff and thanks. Gillers
  12. I can take no credit for this but have a read of a great 3 part+ AAR here for Warthog. Just brilliant stuff. (Note, scroll down for the first one as the page starts at No.3) Gillers
  13. That is a fine piece of work. Many thanks. Gillers
  14. Damn you Ghost man! Now I will have to buy an iPad!! :smilewink: Brilliant piece of work though. Well done, it looks great. Gillers
  15. Try the Bamboo Touch from Wacom. Looks very similar to be honest. USB connection too and Windows support. http://www.wacom.eu/index2.asp?pid=294〈=en&spid=3 Gillers
  16. Came across this yesterday which looks interesting. iBuyer Magic software is the story on Engadget. Download and manual is here. The video has it working with a touchscreen laptop so wonder would it work with a smaller side monitor? Gillers
  17. http://warthognews.blogspot.com/2009/06/10-simulator-trains-pilots-for-real.html See the photo of the pilot in front of the flat screen? A version of the DCS Hog perhaps? Interesting story anyway and a wonderful set up! Oh hang on, that photo is now gone. That's odd. It mentions it in the text. Looked like CH flight sticks were being used and a nicely detailed Hog pit on the screen. Gillers
  18. Did a search but didn't find a mention of this. Apologies if it appeared already. http://www.pcpilot.net/ Sorry no online review available. It's a UK print magazine. And the reviewer is none other Chris 'BeachAV8R' Frishmuth! Now don't get me wrong but wasn't Beach a beta tester for BS? At least he had access to early builds. He can hardly do a bad review, now can he???? :pilotfly: Still he is fair with it and goes into a lot of detail about BS which does no harm at all. Beach does know his sim stuff and I've read a lot his work over the years. Though PC Pilot is not overly critical in its reviews as most of them are advertisers in a small niche publishing business! I don't have the mag, just glanced through it in the shop! Maybe Beach can provide more info. Gillers
  19. Just want to point out that the reviewer in PCG, Tim Stone, has been reviewing sims of all forms for quite a few years and is a keen simmer (from what I've read of his stuff over the years anyway). Bear in mind that the PCG buyer is mostly a FPS or MMOG player and not really a simmer mag. 82% is still good though I have to say. Gillers
  20. Urze is the man who got it to work. http://www.leftside-limited.com/projects.html - scroll down to 'Touch Buddy on a Pocket PC'. Bought the Sidewindow software myself for use with an Axim 51v and... ....I get errors with the TB software. Obviously something is not set up right but I haven't had time to check it out. Gillers
  21. Certainly has! http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,83504,00.html You can read more about it in William Smallwood's excellent book which is all about the Hog: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Warthog-Flying-10-Gulf-Warriors/dp/1574888862/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1230297329&sr=8-1 Another great free book on the Hog is 'A10s over Kosova'. It's a free PDF download from here: https://research.maxwell.af.mil/viewabstract.aspx?id=4757 And can I say this Hog is looking mighty! Well done to the Dev team so far. Gillers
  22. Excellent stuff Hornet. Cracking soundtrack choice. Gillers
  23. ...for your PDA???? ;) Hellfire: Apache vs Hind "Climb aboard your very own Apache Longbow or Mi-24 Hind helicopter and start to make a difference in this Cold War inspired arcade combat simulator from Pazzazz." http://www.clickgamer.com/moreinfo.htm?pid=449&section=PPC And it has 'dynamic sound effects'. Still could be fun on the train. Gillers
