  1. I've noticed a few times that my flight controls become unresponsive during flight, but I don't know what keys I pressed to make them like that or how I get it back to normal. What I mean by unresponsive is this (I'm using a keyboard BTW): I press A (roll left key) for about 1/10 of a second and nothing happens (but under normal circumstances it gives a slight roll to the left), but if I keep it in for 1/2 a second my plane suddenly does a violent roll. It's almost as if it builds up energy and then lets it all out in one spurt, instead of letting it out in a controlled manner like normal. It's really frustrating because in a dogfight I lose velocity VERY quickly from all the violent buildups. Does anyone know what could be wrong? Thanks guys.
  2. I have a gig of DDR400 RAM. Is that too little?
  3. I was flying tonight and about 20 minutes in my FPS changed from about 60 to 10! It got SOOO jerky that I could hardly play. Inevitably I got shot down which was really frustrating. Has this happened to anyone else and do you know why it happened?
  4. I'm not too sure what you mean by this. And how can I make the R-73/R-27ET let off search and lock sounds like the American heat-seekers?
  5. I've never really used boresight mode because I don't see what the point of using it is, if vertical scan mode can lock on automatically. It feels like an inferior BVR mode. Could someone maybe tell me something that I don't know about? I read that it has a slightly further lock on range than vertical scan mode (how much further BTW?), but that's about all there is to it. Also I read somewhere that Russian heat-seekers can let off search and lock tones (love those sounds! :)), like the F-15C, in boresight mode, but I've never had this happen to me. How do I do it? Thanks guys, hope you can help!
  6. Where can I find thi mod? :O What happens if the target's radar is off?
  7. But TWS mode is usually useless because everyone has their jammers on 90% the time. What are the advantages of using the radar properly? Does it decrease the chances of them notching you? BTW I'm still not too sure how to do a HOJ shot. I never know when to fire. Someone told me that he used basic trigonometry to work out the distance of the bandit from him, is this how you'd do it?
  8. I've been trying out the Su-27's R-27ER missiles in the fast battle planner but I just don't have the skill to maintain a lock AND evade an incoming missile. But when using the F-15C I won almost every time even though the AIM-120C has a shorter range... so I think I'm gonna try the F-15C for a while. I would carry on using the MiG-29S, but I hate its high fuel consumption and lack of weapon points. :( Does anyone know how much shorter the range of the AIM-120C is compared to the R-27ER in LOFC? And does the AIM-7 have a longer range than the AIM-120C?
  9. I really love the Su-27, but I'm really scared that the enemy will always easily unlock my R-27ERs. But then again I don't actually know any unlocking maneuvers except to put the bandit on your 3/9 line. Is it very easy for the bandit to unlock my R-27ERs? Because that's the only reason I fly the MiG-29 right now, even though it can only carry 6 missiles. :(
  10. That was helpful, thanks. :) So back to the topic, am I right in saying that the Su-27 and Su-33 come in 3rd and 4th place? Who comes in 1st and 2nd place between the MiG-29S and F-15C?
  11. Pressed the post button by mistake. :O But I've edited it now. :)
  12. Hey guys I tried out the F-15C for the first time tonight and was amazed that it could carry 8 AIM-120Cs and extra fuel! :O Is this realistic? Plus it's got an awesome radar! Surely this makes it the best bird in the sky then and would totally dominate the MiG-29S ? One thing I did have trouble with though is trying to find out if I was targeting my teammates or not. What is displayed on my HUD if I have targeted a teammate, and do I have to have the radar on for IFF to work like the Russian birds?
  13. Moan moan! Dudes I think this game is good enough hey. But anyway, so from what I've read it seems as though the best fighter is between the MiG-29S and the F-15C. And why where you guys comparing the MiG-31 radar to others if you can't fly it?
  14. Yea maybe you guys could give me then the advantages and disadvantages of each fighter? :) One thing I have noticed is that the MiG-29 can climb very easily compared to the Su-27.
  15. So what you were indirectly saying is that the MiG-29 is a piece of crap? :(
  16. I'm known to be extremely gullible but is what you're saying true, cos that would be damn amazing?! Where did you find out about this capability?
  17. I thought it would be a good idea to find out which fighter in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs is, overall, the best. So I've made a list of criteria to make the search a little easier. The reason I'm doing this is because I'm new to LOFC and I'm just curious. :) Yes, I have looked at the in game encyclopedia, but I think that it is inaccurate for Lock On (but not in real life). So without further ado here are the criteria: Climb rate (or maybe just how easily it climbs compared to others): ? Turn radius: ? Fuel capacity: ? Maximum velocity: ? Service ceiling: ? Weapon capabilities: ? If I've missed out some important ones please tell me. Hope you guys can help!
  18. Hey guys, I'm kinda new to Lock On (been playing for about 1.5 months now) and know the basics of WVR and BVR tactics. I'm hoping to join a squad that will be able to teach me some more advanced tactics. Right now I only have Lock On: Modern Air Combat, but in a few weeks I'll be getting Flaming Cliffs in the post thanks to Hitman donating his copy to me. If anyone is willing to take me under their wing, please let me know! Thanks.
  19. Thanks! Wow there's a lot of squads! Guess it's time to make another thread...
  20. Do you think that a squadron would let me join on a casual basis once I get Flaming Cliffs? The reason I ask is because I don't have a lot of time, but I really wanna get lessons so that I can improve. If anyone is willing please let me know!
  21. Thanks guys for clearing that up. :smilewink: When you talk about the radar losing its lock on you when beaming the bandit, does he/she have to be exactly on your 3/9 line or is there some room for error, and is it essential that you get below him/her? I've also read about countermeasures and how effective they are against missiles. But the thing is, I'm not too sure when to, and how to use them. Do I use them before the missile has been launched, after it's been launched, when the missile is close, when it's far away, let out tons at once every few seconds, let out 1 or 2 every few seconds? What's the best way to use them? I also read about people saying that you must "let out chaff and flares", but if an SARH or ARH missile is heading for you, surely only chaff would help? And if an IR missile is coming for you surely only flares would help? And because of the RWR/RWS wouldn't you know which one was coming for you (beeping warning means it's a SARH/ARH and no warning means it's an IR). So basically you should NEVER use them together because that would be a waste? Also, if the missile does decide to go for your CMs does that mean you're safe, or is it possible that it might turn back and begin to follow you again?
  22. When you say "shot from far enough", how far is that usually? And when you say "Closer, the Orthogonal roll is needed", how close is that? What does notch mean? I don't know much LOMAC lingo yet. Like whenever I hear the words maddog, f-pole, a-pole and slammer I go blank. Sorry for all these damn questions, but I just wanna learn all there is to evasive maneuvers! :smilewink: I wanna be able to act calmly and effectively against incoming missiles and think "okay I'm gonna do a [put evasive maneuver here] and that missile won't stand a chance!", instead of the usual "shit, I hope this works... oh **** not again! How the ****?! This is BS, nowai!".
  23. Okay NVM I figured out the padlock thing. But I have another question mainly for GGTharos (but others can anwser it if they want to): do you only use the vertical reversals and orthogonal roll to evade missiles, and when you use these maneuvers against SARH missiles what is your success rate for evading them?
  24. I've decided that using padlock will work best for me if I loose SA. :) I have a problem though, and that is that I want to map the missile padlock and the enemy padlock to shift and caps lock respectively. Does anyone know what those actions are called in the input menu and where abouts they are (top of menu page, bottom of menu page?). I hope that what I just said wasn't too confusing. :P
