Please bring back object size settings!
PeaceSells replied to Greekbull's topic in DCS Core Wish List
^^ They said smart scaling would increase the aircraft's RCS, and in the real world if you increased an object's size you would indeed also increase it's RCS. And the fact that they then opted for 2D sprites instead seems coherent with that. But this still doesn't make sense to me. It's a software (not real life), and while I'm not an expert, I just know you could make the RCS value in-game whatever you want, despite the size of the aircraft. -

You mean it was better at letting you see things beyond visual range? Because as I understand it so far, it did nothing within visual range, only beyond, just like the dots that we have now. -
I'm not so sure, I guess F-15 and Su-27 are still supposed to have the advantage over the F-18 in PvP A2A, aren't they? Plus, if FC4 comes with 4.5 and 5 gen fighters like some people are requesting, this excuse will probably never end...

Do you think that a VoIP implemented by ED would have identification for who's talking and who's listening? Or that it would behave like real-life radio just like SRS? -

I'm also not a fan of increasing the number of 3rd party apps needed... But you have to admit that SRS is way cooler than TS or Discord... -

I'd say that's what Blue Flag currently needs the most, in order to attract/keep new players... -

Most probably by your DCS account, since you have to login with your username and password when you open DCS. -
Oh, I'm sorry then, I didn't know anything about World of Warcraft...

I think you guys are missing the point, this thread is not about making fun of new players for being casual and arcade. Btw, if that's what you want, you don't really need new players from outside... (although I'm not going to cite any names here... cough FC4 thread cough). Please let's discuss the good side instead of trying to imagine bad sides. Also you seem to forget that the F-18 is a high fidelity module and will attract study sim enthusiasts, so I think your assumption about new players is inaccurate...

^^ The other day I was searching the internet for that article and couldn't find it to save my life. I read that some time ago and had the memory that Wags was maybe talking about some sort of multiplayer dynamic campaign, but wasn't sure. I wanted to read it again but couldn't find it, so thank you SO MUCH for that link!!

So, with the arrival of the F-18, I'm sure there will be a great influx of new users into DCS, this is an extremely popular jet. Hopefuly sales will be bigger than ever and there will be great and well deserved income to ED. In our hopeful minds, this would make ED bigger as a company and allow more and more development in more general DCS World areas, like multiplayer (dedicated servers?), graphics (model visibility?), airfield operations, comms (VoIP?), AI, missions complexity, optimizations, etc... So, besides the obvious fact that it's the first modern multi-role jet, in how many ways do you think that the F-18 will benefit the World of DCS?

Seriously, are you guys complaining about youtubers getting access earlier?? Come on!

Also don't forget that you also need to communicate with your team before you enter your aircraft. SRS is supposed to be used when you are inside your aircraft already with power and radio turned on. I think SRS might work also in the Briefing and Choose Role screens, but I'm not sure and it probably wasn't designed for that... Yes, Discord can be used for that, but again... external app... -

You have to remember that SRS, Discord, Teamspeak, etc. are all external 3rd party programs that aren't part of DCS, thus many players don't use them. -

^^ So far I have only played Blue Flag on the red team, because I haven't learned the A-10C yet. I can fly the Ka-50, the F-15, the Su-27, the Huey and the Su-25T. So on red I can do CAP or strike, while on blue it's CAP or transport. So I obviously choose red, but that's only until I learn the A-10C. -

Please no, one of the coolest things on Blue Flag is that there's no datalink on the Su-27. -

You mean to be incorporated into DCS or to be an external addition, like the web map or SRS? Everytime I join Discord it's like ghost town. I use the same nick name for everything and I'm already locked to the red text channel, but there's almost no activity there. And on the voice channel it's effectively 0 activity, I don't think I ever saw a living soul on the voice channels. Currently I don't even run Discord, as most players, I suppose... -

After playing Blue Flag and other dynamic campaign servers (DDCS and 104th Longbow), it looks like ED could benefit A LOT the multiplayer community by adding the MISSION PLANNER SCREEN to multiplayer. Singleplayer has it, so why not? On top of that, it would really complete the package if Commander could draw over the map shown to everyone in the MISSION PLANNER SCREEN. Request CAP locations, strike locations, escorts, etc. Commander stuff. Currently, planning on multiplayer goes like this: see which aircraft and spawn location each enemy and allied player has chosen. Open web browser and look at the external web map (if the server has one) to see which airfields/FARPS are being attacked. Choose an aircraft and airfield. Spawn to be able to use the F10 map and SRS (if server has it). Turn on the radio on the aircraft and use SRS (if the server has it) to ask your team where you're needed, then go back to the spawn screen and NOW choose the appropriate aircraft and airfield to spawn (I've tried using the text chat in the initial screen, but no one replies to that and I understand why. EDIT: no one uses Discord too and I also understand why). From what I understand, the MISSION PLANNER screen is available to the mission designer, which creates not only the world's situation - scripts, triggers, position and quantity of enemies and allies, weather, season (in other words: everything), but also does the propper MISSION PLANNING for each future player, placing their waypoints, creating their roles, etc. I'm not a mission designer, please correct me if I'm wrong. It's designed for single static misisons, in which you will fly a pre-determined sortie (determined by the mission designer) and only that. It's not designed for dynamic missions like we have in all these stunning servers... One of these days I may open a thread in the DCS WISHLIST section to request the mission planner. Don't really believe it will be implemented, but no one could say I didn't try... -

are there plans to unify common settings accross modules?
PeaceSells replied to aledmb's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I wouldn't go as far as asking for unification of the systems, but the basic keybindings at least should be the same (bring up kneeboard, bring up radio menu, etc.). Why not? -
Please bring back object size settings!
PeaceSells replied to Greekbull's topic in DCS Core Wish List
According to Wags explanation in that video, the old sprite only appeared when the object was far enough to be the size of 1 pixel? In that case it wouldn't solve the problem at all... because the problem is when the object is nearer, in that "phantom zone" that you can't see it. Right now, objects can be seen as the infamous black dot when they're very far, even 60 km away, which is also a problem. If I undrestand it correctly, the old sprites would just replace the current black dots, allowing you to see at unrealistic distances and still not allowing you to see at close distances... -
