Remember, Jester is just interface for PILOT to control the radar. He DOES NOT search for targets. So he can only lock stuff if there are return tracks on TID. So dont even try spamming "lock target ahead" if there are no tracks for Jester to lock on TID. You as Pilot have to babysit Jester all the time telling him where to point radar (i use scan at x nm y ft elevation command) to get tracks so then Jester can lock them with STT

there is slight chance for HB making F-14B(U) variant with upgraded nav system, DFCS, HUD and JDAM capability (and other stuff). But still some docs are missing. On question how stick works i have this gif from some cruise video,

Hmm i got same problem, sadly deleting Saved Games\DCS\Data\Kneeboard Builder Config didnt help. I tested it on empty Caucasus map, SP. Game freezes and stop responding for like 2min as soon as i unpause or press "fly". Game loads normally and even runs smoothly when paused. After that 2 min freezing, game starts responding and plays normally. It just started out of a blue, game was playing with no problems before....

PAL works with gun sight, but as @draconus said, diamond is used for something else so you dont see diamond scanning HUD but it is working. You can switch AA weapon to OFF to see diamond scanning in the background

I only use TWS when i know exactly where bandit is. At ranges 20nm and less, where i have no idea where bandit is I always use RWS with higher scan volume, and at 10nm i turn cold, avoiding merge.

it works only for HE rounds Is it intended?

Jester 2.0 (and other new stuff added with F-4 module) when?
The_Tau replied to sBinn64's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
If you use command "Jester lock target ahead" then Jester priorities tracks closest to 0 ATA "on the nose", not range. To lock tracks based on range you have to use Jester command "lock specific track". Blue tracks in list are datalink tracks. F14 ECM is not weaker than other 4 gen aircraft in DCS. ECM in DCS works all the same and provides noise jamming preventing return of range. In most radars in DCS burn through range is 29nm so any range shorter than that ECM doesnt give any benefit, but in contrary it can activate Home on Jam in especially Fox1 missiles, changing them into silent Fox3 with no warning on rwr. -
What is the difference between AIM-9 p and AIM-9 j?
The_Tau replied to Skyracer's topic in Heatblur Simulations
its different sidewinder. we talk about Juli (full aspect) not Juliet (rear aspect) -
What is the difference between AIM-9 p and AIM-9 j?

nope. docs are pretty sparse. Maybe more in Spanish or German? Only thing i found it mentioning them is article about south African aggressor role claiming F1M with those missiles is from 1995. Pretty weak imo -

The_Tau replied to Skyracer's topic in Heatblur Simulations
There is also AIM-9Juli which is German modification by Diehl BGT for Spain Its a 90s upgrade offered by a German contractor for European customers of old rear aspect AIM-9J/N/P stock. They upgraded the seeker to the 9L(I) which is all aspect with improved CCM. Spain was the only customer. Others chose the AIM-9P-4/P-5 upgrade -
My question is how can you force it on servers

Patch is now and it got this apparently

How do you even enable/disable it on server side as mission host? I dont see option for that in ME...

Need a briefing on the status of things re the F-14
The_Tau replied to Redwing_204's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
54 in general have huge problems due to missile fattnes with targets below 20k feet, doesnt matter the launch conditions which imo could be done better. I always try to climb to 40k ft at least. It does make a difference. To deal with low flying targets I am afraid you have to close in and use ACM modes. Yep they work pretty well like that, I stick with STT when targets are less than 30nm. TWS is just unreliable. For high flying targets you can disable MLC in RIO seat which should help with notching targets. Note key word "high flying" though -

P is the most modern sparrow variant. Not really cold war as it come mid 90s. It was not used in Desert Storm as much as I know. Its like MH (lofts) but has even better seeker (supposedly). I would stick with M/MH, even though i am not sure when exactly MH joined the fleet, so there is a chance only M could be used. What sparrows would F4 use? would it use F ones?
-
I am guessing F-14A Late to be upgraded (downgraded? ;)) to F-14A early when available? And whats with AIM7P? why P not like M or MH?
-
its worse, AI will not defend by default, until they magically detect the missile within 10nm bubble around them. Doesnt matter if its 54 or 120 or Aim7. It also doesnt matter if its f16, mig29 or mig 21.
-
So F14 is able to guide 6 different 54s on 6 different targets at one time, but it would be unable to guide more than 1 sparrow at one time at single target? IDK about that one... Sounds fishy ngl

From what i heard the main reason for two different motors its just two different companies were contracted to make them. Also there were far fewer Mk60s than Mk47s and by AIM54C came online in 1986 only few left overs mk60s engines were left, so squadrons were just much more likely to use mk47s. Personally the only real difference imo is at low alts with much higher drag on 54 fat body. So for low level missions i would take mk60s. Of course for PvP smokeless motor is quite big advantage.
-
I use that in DCS, and it works quite well. I would even decrease range of "ACM" shots to more like 10-15nm and use STT Yes 54C goes active but it goes to extrapolated track, so where system thinks the bandit is and not where bandit actually is with APG71. So obviously newer radar is better.

Jester is not AI RIO, he is an interface for radar. He doesnt look for targets, he just presses buttons. You have to baby sit him and tell him exactly where to look : Scan at distance 20nm at 0 FT etc. You have to constantly look at TID and check if AWG9 sees tracks. No Tracks, Jester cant lock it. Make sure that its RADAR TRACK and not DATALINK TRACK. These are two different things. Only exception is ONE command, lock specific track, which allows jester to TRY to lock to datalink tracks if its currently outside radar scan range but WITHIN gimbal limit Of course AWG9 limitations still apply, so beaming and cold targets are very hard to lock in PD STT.

F-18 has very nice and bright AAR light... Maybe too bright, but at least night AAR is possible...
