OK the final screenshot says to me that it's either not finding your options.lua, or there's a problem with that file, or it's not finding your My_Monitorsetup_File.lua file. That final screen should be pre-set (by your options.lua) on load to reflect the settings you've chosen. So... Double check filenames, paths and case. Search for any duplicates of those files that might be getting picked up instead. Another thing to check is the Vista filenames by default "hide known file extensions" so it's possible that your options.lua is actually called options.lua.txt but stupid Vista decided not to show you that. You can see the actual filename by rightclicking for properties, and you can turn off the "hide known file extensions" - google will help there. It's 1am here, will check again in the morning. Good luck.

Can you post the paths to where the two files are being stored? And confirm you're not touching the graphics settings ingame after customising the lua files? And please advise do you ever see anything on the secondary screen once you start DCS, or does it show the menus but not the game, or something else? Also can you go into the graphics options setup screen (where you would normally change the resolution etc) and screenshot that for us? Don't change anything, just screenshot what comes up by default.

Are the files named .lua or .txt on your system? they should be .lua. Sorry, I have to ask, you'd be amazed... Also check the height on your Shkval in your monitorsetup; it should be 525, not 525/2. Looking further...

Without meaning to flog a dead horse, that's only the case because we took the time to figure it out :music_whistling: Good luck, ping us again if you need help.

September is about perfect timing. Will keep an eye out, thanks.

@loslobas: here are your numbers, all I did was find the appropriate sheet in the spreadsheet and fill them in.

This is normal, nothing you can do about it. Any part of the screen not erased by a 3d renderview will still show the loading screen. Is it working in the virtual cockpit on the main display? I assume so. Hmm. In my config it is written "Shkval" not "SHKVAL". Try that, maybe it has no knowledge of what to render in that space because of the case you're using. See first quote, not erased by a 3d view Just curious, how do you determine this? Just from the fuzzy look? Can I confirm that you've dispensed with the phantom monitor fix exe for now? Get it working without that first. Also, I'd suggest reverting to the original default options.lua and redoing your numbers, being painstakingly careful with commas, spaces, quotes and case. It's possible you've bumped a key somewhere which is causing the config to read incorrectly. Also can I confirm that you're not changing anything ingame in the display settings after you change the config files? Also can you confirm that you have never edited any of the config files with notepad/wordpad, but you've always used a UTF-8 aware editor such as Textpad or Notepad++?

I guess that if i7 doesn't offer me a significant FPS boost, then it's not "wise" for me to spend the money just now. Knowing nothing about the difference in Core 2 and i7 architectures, this was exactly my issue. So there is something inherent about i7 that will give me faster CPU processing despite no appreciable difference in clock speed? Can you point me to any references that explain it? I will do this, thanks. can you suggest a good benchmarking track?

I get about 20-30 FPS on instant action, with medium settings across the board. This was my suspicion. I found a noticeable difference going from stock to 3.2GHz on the Q6600. I already have a dual-GPU-capable mobo (x48 2xPCIe16) so SLI is an option. Dual 10k SATA Raptors in RAID 0 :) This is partly my dilemma - does it come down to raw CPU cycles, or is there some inherent superiority (cache etc) in the i7 architecture that trumps raw cycles.

A little thought experiment: I register on the most helpful and friendly home improvement forum in the world, and using my very first post, state "Hi all, I can't be arsed painting my daughter's bedroom, can somebody come round and do it for me so I can watch the football? :D Thanks!" If I got a little light sarcasm in response, I'd consider myself lucky. Please understand that when you indicate no desire to put in the effort to understand (as you did in your OP), folks like me who spend a lot of time helping people in a friendly way know that if we take the time to help, a) you will probably lose interest before you get it working and/or b) we'll probably never even see a response from you. It's happened before, and our time is better spent helping those that indicate that they're prepared to invest the time in getting it working. So if you felt unwelcome, I apologise for my light sarcasm. If you really want to get this working and are prepared to put in the work, please post the steps you have taken, the parameters of what you are trying to do, the configs that you're currently working with and the errors you are seeing. This is what we need to be able to help you. Peace

You didn't mention the resolution you want to run at. If you want to run at 640x480, you'll be fine. If you want to push 2 triplehead2go's, each at 5040x1050, you'll be struggling. Resolution is important.

Hi all, I'm currently running a Q6600 quad oc'd to 3.2 GHz, on an x48 mobo with a 9800GTX+ and 6GB of RAM. This rig pulls about 14,300 in 3dMark 06. I'd like to get better FPS in BS and ArmA, as I'm running Triplehead at 3x1280x768 plus a 1024x768 ABRIS/Shkval. My options are: - Upgrade CPU to say a Q9550 2.8GHz for about $400 AUD, which will probably overclock well past 3.2 GHz OR - Go for a full i7 upgrade, which will be roughly $1000 AUD incl an X58 mobo and 6GB RAM. The Core i7 920 Quad 2.6GHz should go to 3.2 GHz fairly easily. My question is this: if BS FPS is limited by CPU (as tends to be the case) does an i7 upgrade really offer me anything, given that there is no difference in the raw CPU speed I can achieve (in GHz terms) with i7 vs Core 2 Quad? In reality, are either of these upgrades going to give me anything significant? Thanks for reading

Data is exported via Lua, the same as Lock On. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?end_pos=567&scr=default&lang=en If you're able to interface with F4 SharedMem, you should have no issues with Lua sockets.

Sure, would you like a nice backrub as well?

Is a performance of of Phantom of the Opera just a live action music video? After all, it started with the music. What about Chariots of Fire? Movie or music video? Reservoir Dogs? Amadeus? You could argue that a movie of aeroplanes simply flying to the sound of aeroplane noises is a documentary, not a movie. Sound effects are simply one aspect of the audio in a movie, which itself is simply one aspect of the craft. I see your point Jocko, but you are being too fundamentalist about it.

multi monitor picture request !
ruprecht replied to hannibal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I don't see a big issue with this setup, but with all the different size screens it will be tricky. BS is going to have to render a full 5640x1440, which is over 8Mpx, so I hope you have a beefy system! -

1. Read this: http://www.vaaf.net/wiki2/index.php5?title=Black_Shark_MultiMonitors I took great care in providing step by step instructions there that are relatively easy to understand. 2. Use the excel spreadsheet on that page to determine your numbers. How are you running 3 screens? 2 video cards? (edit I see you have an SLI setup, but surely that only gives you 2 heads? Unless you have both a TH2G and a DH2G?) Need more details on your setup before we can help. Screenshot the windows monitor layout. As a general principle (mentioned in a few places) you should try to keep the vertical resolution the same on all monitors to make the setup easier and avoid the multiplayer UI problems. -
Don't you be dissing Kenny Loggins Kif. You and I will have words :D I agree with the OP on the tendency for people to jsut slap their favourite hard rock/metal song over some footage and call that a movie. But for many moviemakers (myself included) the music is an inspiration for the movie and it adds a lot. As an example, my VAAF promo video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rT16OWI-NAg Now there are a lot of things about it that I'd change in hindsight, but the music is not one of them. Where would Tarantino be without his uncanny ability to match music to visuals? Like anything, it is the *thoughtless* use of music that is the problem, not the use of music itself.

thanks for posting.

Without knowing exactly what you're seeing, it's hard to know what you mean by "both screens are wacked" :) It sounds like what you are doing is fundamentally correct, but if you can snap a photo of what you're seeing on startup, that might help. 2 things: - When I wrote the wiki, I specifically said that the name of the multimonitorsetup file should be entered in options.lua in lower case. I'm not sure exactly why (it was a long time ago) but you could try that. - dispense with the phantomMonitorFix exe until you get it working without it. The fewer variables in the equation, the better.
-
Edited the wiki, hopefully this now makes more immediate sense. Hope you got it working!
-
What is the lua file actually called? I see you've copied the multiMonitorSetup line directly from the wiki, but that filename needs to exactly match the lua file (as noted in the wiki). Is your lua file actually called "pit_camera+abris+shkval.lua"? Cause if not, it's not going to work. Will look more for you that turns out to not be the problem. Also have you worked it out using the excel file on the wiki? That's the best way to understand it. *edit* I worked your numbers using the excel file and it looks to me (with a very quick look) that your numbers are ok. *edit again* Note that the words "phantom" and "secondary" should be swapped over, I missed that when I copied it from the other sheet. Doesn't affect the numbers though.

Noted and fixed. Cheers

If you read that entire wiki page, you'll see that there is indeed a workaround for the problems with the multiplayer GUI. http://vaaf.net/wiki2/index.php5?title=Black_Shark_MultiMonitors#Phantom_Monitor_Fix You can also set all your monitors to the same vertical resolution, which might avoid most of the multiplayer GUI issues, but doesn't itself solve the phantom monitor issue.
