[REPORTED] Payload effect on airspeed
philstyle replied to J13 Serenity's topic in Bugs and Problems
Already a thread on this.. but nothing from ED yet. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=215398 There's no way this module is finished . . It's kind-of embarassing. -

Yeah, this is pretty bad and needs to be fixed. The spits should not be that fast. It's clearly an FM bug. -
Eurpean thatre : Normandy Approrpiate Bf109?
philstyle replied to Kev2go's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I agree that this isn't easy. This why I used the term "entered service". The day the first air-frame with that designation entered an operational squadon. This gets around the problem of propotypes, and at least then it can be argued that the aircraft are contemporaries with each other, if they entered service close to each other in time. In the end though, you are right. There is no perfect solution to all this. Just look at all the discussions we had with IL2:Cliffs of Dover, for the Spitfire alone: Spitfire 1 (87 octane) Spitfire 1 (100 octane) Spitfire 1a (87 octane +rotol), Spitfire 1a (100 octane +rotol) Spitfire 2a. And questions about whether or not the 1b or 2b should be included! All of this for "one" aircraft over a 6 month period of the war :) -

Here is how I'd prefer to see ED market these modules; to develop them in pairs. i.e. 1 Allied and 1 Axis aircraft, both of similar role and both of which enetred front-line service around the same time. For example: - Spitfire Mark vB (early 1941) and the 109 F2 or F4 (late 1940, mid 1941) or FW190 A1 (mid 1941) - Spitfire IX (March 1943) and the Bf109 G6 (February 1943) Unfortunately, due to development time etc.. this is probably not a relistic expectation, gievn that aircraft tend to be released singly, and not in "sets" like this -
[FIXED] Green Tint and double reflections on front windscreen
philstyle replied to Sn8ke_iis's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yeah, there are mods for this, but they break the integrity check so you can't join most servers with them in use. -
Again, no mention in pacth notes of the multiple graphical errors in the spitfire.

I Totally agree that mission makers will be the ones to make the calls, assuming they have a choice of assets to use. Once options are in place, it is no longer the developers responsiblity to achieve historical coherency. I don't care if the machines we have are the "fastest" or "best".. so long as what we do have is representative of the likely matchups at a specific time. If this means ED push back into 1943 with the german aircraft, to make them a more sensible match for the current allied ones then fine. Conversely, if it means releasing later Allied aircraft to match the current German mid-late 1944 set then I am also fine with that. What is frustrating is a 1943 allied set and a 1944 Axis set. -

As Dietrich says, the server is up on Open Beta. I will tend to bring it down on Mondays and Tuesdays though, given these days are quiet, and it gives me the chance to do maintenance, check missions etc.. -

This is right, and if we had similar Allied aircraft (Tempest, Spitfire 14 +25lb) which also served the same period then I'd be in favour of the G14 too. -
Those figures simply don't exist though as far as I can tell. There isn't a list of 5 or 10 results all with the same airframe and engine setting. Even if there were, someone would argue that that air-frame had a different paint, or a few rivets showing that the in-game version didn't have. Almost every test available online has a differnt engine configuration, or slightly differnt atmoshperic conditions, or an air-frame modification in one way or another. This goes for the Spitifre as well as the FW190. The only way to get a feel for the general performance over the range for that type is to list all the various resutls side by side, provide an average them, show the range and provide the references which I have done. If you don't want to reference the "average" figure you don't have to. That's why I provided them all side-by-side with the references.

Slightly odd new tendency to roll right?
philstyle replied to BuzZoo's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
OK. But I am unsure how one can get the aircraft to fly with the engine idling... -

A 109-G6 would be fantastic. This would give us map/ aircraft options back into 1943. It also opens up the Italian Campaign a bit more too . . . :) -
'For thos who might be interested, I compiled the max-level-speed at sea level results for a bunch of published FW190A8 tests and the Spitfire IX (merlin 66 at 18lb) that I could find. The results are in favour, slightly, of the FW190A8 at very low altitudes, by between 10 and 20 kph. Here's the combined data, with references and a graph to aid in interpretation. The "avergae" is just that.. and average of the published results. The "average" lines are not prescriptive.

Don't worry, I do believe you. I was just wondering why you used the 14 data. I agree that the 190A should still perform better in a dive (at least in terms of max dive speed) against a Spit IX, and would even do well still against the XIV.

Hey BuzZoo, Just a thought, is your spitfire carrying anything like drop tanks or bombs when you spawn? I get distinct drag-induced roll that is very hard to trim out when I am carry ordnance and/ or tanks. -
Home come you used Spit 14 data? We don't have a spitfire 14 in DCS.

AI difficulty is mixed. Section leaders tend to be "high" and "average", wing-men are mostly lower skill levels. Every A.I. aircraft has a hand picked difficulty level, depending on its place in the formation. This includes the bombers too. The lead bomber crews should be more skillfull than the guys at the tail end of the formation, as a general rule. But now and then there might be a surprise. -

I just add more than one mission to the mission load list. DCS auto-rotates to the next on the list when a mission ends... -

As of now, Storm of War DCS server is shut down. For information, just in case people are concerned, there are no health issues or problems within the admin team.
