  1. Hi, If you read the briefing at the start, it gives wind speed and strength. You then look at the compass and the answer should be clear. ;) Because you're in a heli, taxi out onto the runway, align into the wind, then take off. If you want to do a rolling takeoff, then watch for cross winds etc.. Best regards, Tango.
  2. Hi, SF loads upon start of DCS:BS and unloads on its termination. Best regards, Tango.
  3. You're joking aren't you?? Every minute you don't click "BUY NOW", you're missing out!!! OK, the AI is a bit dumb, missions aren't randomly generated, but the immersion and realism more than make up for that! Mission developers are starting to get to know the mission system, and already there are some great missions available. Online flight is definitely the best. Join us over at http://dcs-bs.com/ . Best regards, Tango.
  4. Hi, If you do need to make sharp manouvers at speed, drop the collective, and then smoothly apply the required inputs. If you try and roll left/yaw right at speed with lots of collective, you're going to end up having a REALLY bad day. ;) Best regards, Tango.
  5. I totally agree. Best regards, Tango.
  6. Hi, I can still see the trees. I think I can still see ground units, too, but don't quote me on that bit. Best regards, Tango.
  7. Is that a bug then? I'd expect to be unable to select a weapon and fire it. Best regards, Tango.
  8. Hi, Don't fall into the trap of "Flight Simulator lives on". A franchise exists in name alone. What product MS choose to market under "Flight Simulator" is entirely up to them. My gut feeling is they'll build it for XBox then port to the PC. They're emphasising LIVE far too much for my liking, and the sacking of the ENTIRE ACES team very strongly suggests they've no interest in carrying on FS in its present form. This is very sad day for the FS world. A lot of stuff was driven off the back of MSFS, whether we like it or not. MS are concentrating on XBox as the gaming platform. FS was the last major title for PC they created. It's now gone. MS are in this purely for the money, and if the money is on the console, that's where they'll go. Sales are all they care about, not quality. A lot of FS expertise has just left MS, and it will be virtually impossible to get it back (short of saying "OOPS - that was a mistake - come back - you're not fired really"). That isn't going to happen. :( We're sure to see FS return at some point, but nothing like we have now. FSX was already heading in the direction of a game rather than a sim. It's clear where MS are heading with this. All we can hope for now is that ED remain strong, and that people turn to other sims (DCS:BS, Falcon 4.0, X-Plane). OK, they're not MSFS, but something has to be better than nothing. IMHO DCS:BS is as good as it gets for sims at the present time, but MS kept flight sims in general on the shelf in front of everyone. Nearly everyone who flies the other sims above, generally had MSFS too. Not everyone with MSFS has the above sims however. Best regards, Tango.
  9. If that was so, it wouldn't work AT ALL, surely?? Thing is, the modes were working fine, only the buttons didn't illuminate. Best regards, Tango.
  10. I haven't experienced laser failure yet. When it's not required, I switch it off. What would be nice to know is under exactly what conditions it is firing? Some people here say the life of the laser is short, but then some lasers are like that. It depends heavily on what kind of laser it is. Best regards, Tango.
  11. Hi, The problem relates specifically to the Turn On Target buttons and other buttons on that control panel related to the Shkval. The Shkval and its various modes worked fine, but the buttons just wouldn't illuminate when pressed. I hadn't been shot etc.. to cause them to fail, however I had been shot down prior to this problem. Ejecting and getting a new aircraft resolved the issue. Best regards, Tango.
  12. Hi, I tried running BS from my desktop via my NetBook using TS and the app just crashes?????? Both systems are Windows XP Pro SP3. Best regards, Tango.
  13. I appreciate that - it was just the way it was talked about a little while ago that had me wondering. Thanks for the link! Best regards, Tango.
  14. I only fly high altitude when I'm reasonably sure I'm not near a SAM or anything that will shoot me down so I can take advantage of higher ground speed on the way in to a target. It (should) also help with the fuel efficiency, too. Once I'm near the target though, then I'm in the weeds. :D Best regards, Tango.
  15. DX9 engine - I'm not "upgrading" just to run Vista. Best regards, Tango.
  16. Hi, When practising autos I find that the engines are still clearly driving the rotors even though they're at idle. Having suffered a double-engine failure in the sim before, the behavior is NOT the same. Is this correct? I find rotor RPM to be far more sensitive to collective and g loads when both engines are stoppped than when they're idling. Best regards, Tango.
  17. Hi, I tend to agree. When I pull certain manouvers (particularly high speed dives with the collective lowered), when the rotor RPM drops off, in addition to the low speed warning, the blades look almost static as they fly by the window and not as if they're still doing a thousand RPM. It gets me every me I have that happen because I think I've lost my engines and stalled the rotors!! The blade effect (certainly from the perspective of inside) needs to be addressed. Best regards, Tango.
  18. Great explanation!! MORE! MORE! :D Best regards, Tango.
  19. Hi, Several of us have noticed that as we fly online there is a little bit of regular HD activity. We though this might be the track recording until we all noticed it stopped when we shut down the aircraft. What is it? Best regards, Tango.
  20. So lights affect BOTH air and ground AI????? I thought someone wrote that it only affected air AI (Evil??)??? Best regards, Tango.
  21. Like DRM, it only inconveniences the legitimate user. CC fraud can still occur abroad. Hear the one about the CC call center employee...? Best regards, Tango.
  22. Hi, Thanks, but it doesn't quite answer the question: why so much torque input to fly co-ordinated (according to the in-sim turn co-ordinator)? I understand the tendency to want to roll, but I'm talking about co-ordinated flight (not the same thing). Unless of course, the slight roll tendency also affects the yaw tendency, but I can't see how due to other aerodynamic forces at work. The fact the upper rotor wants to roll the aircraft due to the turning moment, I can't see the relation to yaw???? Unless it is because the rotor is further away, offset further to the side, and the angular momentum is somehow amplified due to gyroscopic effect? The fact that right torque input is required points to the upper rotor (unless the tail is significantly heavier than the nose?!). Best regards, Tango.
  23. Hi, For some reason, I was oblivious to the slip indicator until it was mentioned and pointed out to me (despite looking for it when I first got the sim!!!). I feel quite silly. :helpsmilie: Anyways.... now I know where it is, I noticed something about a flight charateristic of the sim. It requires far more right torque input to fly straight at 250 km/h indicated than I thought it would (to be exact, I wasn't expecting any would be required). Why is this??? To test: establish at 250 km/h with a full load-out at 1000 meters, and with the slip-indicator centralized. I can't fly level without this right torque input. I also need pedals as much as I need FreeTrack. Best regards, Tango.
  24. Are you a mercenary looking for that extra firepower and all-weather, all-terrain capability? Want additional stand-off range? Are you a war-lord looking to better arm your forces? Then the Ka-50 is for you! :D :D Best regards, Tango.
  25. Not precise (too much movement generally) but I get pretty close. It's usually in the field of view. :) Best regards, Tango.
