  1. Hi, I used a hat but it doesn't work as well. I've put it on the arrow keys and set Num 0 to "Lock" so I can quickly pan the Shkval and lock the second it is over the target. I can get several units very quickly like this now. I also don't have a problem unlocking the Shkval if I'm locked on another target. :) Best regards, Tango.
  2. Good question. I hovered for a good 15 mins last night without issue, but when I'm in the middle of using the Shkval in Turn-To-Target Mode - that's when it does it. Best regards, Tango.
  3. A dedicated server would be most welcome! I can't leave my main rig running DCS:BS all day (unfortunately :D ), and my actual server is hardly a gaming system. Best regards, Tango.
  4. Hi, You get used to rolling left as you accelerate, and rolling right as you decelerate. It is quite noticeable if you trim only at the extremes of speed (0 km/h and 250 km/h). Put the controls where the helicopter flies forward in level flight and maintains speed, check the rudder is central, then trim. You shuold find the controls are where they need to be then. If the torque pedals are *not* centralized when you trim, then you might find you have additional roll input to counter it, or are even side-slipping slightly. Best regards, Tango.
  5. Autohover. It's fine most of the time. Best regards, Tango.
  6. Hi, I've had it occur again whereby I can be in a high altitude hover, with the Shkval in Turn-To-Target mode, when the aircraft will start slowly pirouetting, followed by the AP dropping out (all lights off except ALTITUDE). I'm not sure which is first - the pirouetting or the AP disconnect, but there is no alert to this, except for when the Shkval reaches its gimbal limits and I'm suddenly not looking at what I should be. I'm not touching the cyclic or collective, and can usually hover quite happily, but it will do this sometimes. Anyone notice this? Note this is occurring at high altitude (e.g. 1600 meters), so isn't because I'm too low to the ground or anything. Can turbulence cause this? Best regards, Tango.
  7. Hi, I've had 10 people connected to my server without issues. Internet connection: ADSL, 8 Mbps down (extremely variable - rubbish ISP!), 430 kbps up. Server computer: Intel Core2 Duo E6700 4Gb DDR2 800 MHz RAM (2.66 Gb in XP due BIOS limits on 32-bit OS config) 1Gb GeForce 7950GX2 Win XP Pro SP3 1600x1200x32 DCS:BS at highest settings except texture res and heat blur when online Runs very well indeed. Best regards, Tango.
  8. Hi, Thanks for the feedback! I don't leave any lighting on except for the blue lighting (except during start-up and shutdown when I'm not using the NVG), and do use the instruments. I love instrument flight! :D I didn't realize just how much I looked outside... Focus issues aside, do you adjust the NVG brightness to the extent that caution lighting etc.. wash out and are unreadable (even assuming for a moment that you had re-focused the NVG to read them)? I find to get a really good view out the window, I need to wash out things like the AP mode buttons, the caution panel, etc.. I've also discovered the landing light gives a good visual reference for manouvering at low altitude at night. I'm not sure what effect lighting outside the cockpit has on the NVGs, but I noticed the ABRIS has a subtle impact (but the Shkval doesn't???), so I turn that down as far as possible. Don't forget the switch for changing the contrast of the on-screen markers, text etc.. - it changes it from white to black which makes it much easier to see in certain situations. Best regards, Tango.
  9. Hi, I've been trying out night flying in this thing using NVGs.:doh: and :helpsmilie: First off, anyone with RW experience of NVGs able to comment on BS rendition of this? Second, on the feeling of having been blinkered? I'm happy flying instruments - that's not an issue. My issue is not hitting stuff when flying low or landing. How do you deal with loss of spatial awarness as it relates to airspeed? The kinds of visual cues you use to fly during the day just aren't there at night and I find I'm flying faster than I'd like to. In the real-world, is the Ka-50 a day attack helicopter only or is it meant to be employed for night time ops as well? I understand the laser designator /Shkval don't operate well at night? How bright/sensitive do you make the NVGs? I find I have it set really low so I can still read captions etc.. but find it could be brighter for better outside views. Is there a way to dim the alert panels lighting, autopilot mode lights etc..? I see there is a dimmer on the overhead, but it appears not to work (despite showing it is interactive)? Best regards, Tango.
  10. Don't forget the boresight mode of the HUD! Best regards, Tango.
  11. :megalol: Best regards, Tango.
  12. The Main Hydraulics are on by default, so you're switching them off. Best regards, Tango.
  13. Hi, Both dust and ice protection takes a little bit of engine power. Best regards, Tango.
  14. Yeah - I hadn't considered that (I appreciate the wiper wouldn't be pin-sharp!). Best regards, Tango.
  15. Only thing I noticed is you don't see it wipe on the Shkval image. Would have been nice if they simulated a black line move up/down the screen. Best regards, Tango.
  16. I thought that for 2 people it is easier for exactly the reason you mention, but as a single-ship, is it realistic to do this? EDIT: @GGTharos: good point. I'll move it into the open. O/T: Does visual distance affect the Shkval or not? i.e. if it a unit is out of visual range due to the draw distance, will the Shkval still "see it" and draw it? Best regards, Tango.
  17. Fraticide is when you kill your own side. Sure you didn't kill a friendly unit? Best regards, Tango.
  18. Hi, I set up a rather tough little training mission I think! :D I put a Vulcan M163 AAA unit into a forest, and I'm completely unable to see it! I can't see it when cheating by going into external view and looking down on the forest, and I certainly can't see it through the trees, yet.... it shoots me down every time I try and coax it into firing just so I can locate it... Any suggestions/recommendations for trying to locate such a unit? I find if I fly high enough it doesn't shoot at me, so do I need to overfly the forest until I spot it? Best regards, Tango.
  19. Hi, I get this both online and offline: sometimes audio such as the AKRAN disappears, or isn't there to start with. I also get oddities such as the external audio being audiable internally. If I switch views this fixes it, but the missing audio is still missing. Anyone else get this??? Best regards, Tango.
  20. Hi, I get missing audio sometimes, like the AKRAN. Best regards, Tango.
  21. Hi, NO resets are required. I do the following and it works every time (props to scif for the enlightenment when I was learning - the way he described the rough method made more sense than resetting the targeting system!). * Lock a target in the Shkval * Select the target type in the data link * Press STORE * Select the wingman to send the target to * Press SEND On the ABRIS, you will now have a diamond with the target ID in it. What I haven't tried yet is locking several targets, designating their types in the data link for each one and storing it. I'm not sure if you can then bulk-send targets? Best regards, Tango.
  22. Have you actually ever managed to get FreeTrack running properly?? Hmm?? I can't help but think your real beef is that you were suckered into paying way over the odds and can't stand the idea that others are getting the same for 1/10th the price. Utter nonsense! I'm sat 4 feet back from my webcam. In order to fall outside the field of view, I'd have to move laterally about 2 feet either side of center. Tracking is also very precise. I can't actually move my head in small enough steps! I suggest that you don't really understand what you're on about. Tango.
  23. ??!!! I use FreeTrack with very bright blue LEDs and a cheap £15 webcam. No mods required to the camera, and it rocks. I can't fly BS without it - I lose too much SA. Why the hell would anyone want to spend £140 ($200) on TrackIR Pro to get the same thing??? Before you ask, yes, I can afford TrackIR, but why throw money away when I've got a perfectly good soldering iron??? "Poor mans TrackIR" it certainly isn't. Best regards, Tango.
  24. I'm not sure. I think this is hard-coded. Best regards, Tango.
  25. The two manouvers that guarantee a blade collision are: * Hard left roll * Hard right yaw at speed and with collective pulled. That's just how it is. To help alleviate a collision, just drop collective during the manouver, and you should be OK! Altitude lost will occur, but can't be helped unless you want to bleed off speed instead. Best regards, Tango.
