  1. It can be simulated - if you're not on oxygen and you need it, you pass out in the sim, and maybe crash because of it. You can't die in sims, but that is simulated anyay, so why not? I can't afford a super-computer like Wags!! :D :D There is still plenty of scope in DX9 - I hope it doesn't require DX10 for example - surely this kind of thing is known at this point in development??? Best regards, Tango.
  2. The aircraft is designed for visual flight. If you can't see the ground, you're not flying visually anymore... Best regards, Tango.
  3. Hi, I prefer to do the auto hover with altitude hold off. Wind affects it quite a bit. You will drift if you don't watch it. A tip: if surrounded by sloping terrain, set the radio altimeter to an altitude below your hover height so you know if impact with the ground is imminent - that's saved me a few times! Best regards, Tango.
  4. Hi, Will the system requirements be the same as DCS:BS or will I need to go buy a new computer? Best regards, Tango.
  5. Damn potentiometers! WHY do they keep using them??? :( Best regards, Tango.
  6. What happens is low RPM results in the loss of both elec gens, and so you lose the AP. You will notice the Shkval display do a reset at the same time. Be easier with the manouvering so it doesn't happen. Pulling g? Drop the collective and keep the RPM up. Watch the ground, and beware if slowing - don't want to end up in VRS so if the vertical rate starts to drop below 30 m/s, increase the collective if the speed is < 70 kph and don't sink any faster. Best regards, Tango.
  7. hahaha!!! She says it with a smile on her face! "Engine Fire :)" Best regards, Tango.
  8. There are some great MP missions out there now that have threats *AROUND* the target area, as well as in it. In MP missions, when co-op flight is tricky (i.e. no TS), I tend to fly single ship but keep and eye out for others (ABRIS is great for this). I will usually scream towards the target area, but a few km before I get there I go slow, and keep and eye out. I will get within range, survey the area, then go from there. I note where I was safe as I move forwards so I know I have somewhere to run to if I come under fire. This saved my tail several times. If I do come under unexpected fire, I hit the deck if in a built-up area. Whilst AI can see and shoot though trees, they can't shoot through buildings. I then run, get out of range, turn around and engage whatever was shooting me. There is no substitute for the eyeball. Shkval is too restrictive unless high and a good distance out where you can take your time to survey the place. Best regards, Tango.
  9. I've seen this video, and agree entirely. The whole problem with our setups is the return-to-center sticks. By trimming then returning to center, you immediately restricted your aft/right roll travel. Great to know! Getting some pedals soon and don't want to have to keep returning those to center. Best regards, Tango.
  10. He crashed. :( I only saw the last few seconds where he ended up on the rotors. They're hoping to have videos put up today, so maybe check and see if it is there yet? Best regards, Tango.
  11. Ahh! Thanks. Best regards, Tango.
  12. AA affects Vikhr as it alters the way it detonates. Usually it is impact detonated, but in air to air it uses a proximity fuse. By setting air to air it arms this method of detonation. Head-on air-to-air mode alters the characteristics of the gun targeting but not that of the Vikhr. You need the laser to fire the Vikhr at an air to air target as normal. Best regards, Tango.
  13. Anyone having streaming issues? Best regards, Tango.
  14. What the hell? Frazer crashed! At least I don't need to worry about my flying now! :P Anyone see what happened? I tuned in just in time to see it land inverted. Best regards, Tango.
  15. Almost missed it! :( Will tune in today! Best regards, Tango.
  16. Hi, It had added new virtual network cards. I guess it saw that as a config change. Best regards, Tango.
  17. Hi, I started DCS:BS up tonight the same as the last few nights, only it asked for activation?! The only difference between tonight and the other nights is that I have an external drive connected and powered up. I also installed the latest version of VirtualBox which installed some system drivers. I had no option but to activate. I now have no more activations left. Win 7 Pro. Best regards, Tango.
  18. Dosen't the laser only fire when looking at distances or otherwise locking up a target? If you reset the Shkval, doesn't this also switch off the laser, without resorting to the master sw? Best regards, Tango.
  19. RTFM only goes so far. :) Best regards, Tango.
  20. It all comes down to material strength. A 2ft plank of wood is quite hardy, doesn't bend much under its own weight etc.. but you make that plank 20 ft, and you could easily break it. Just look at what is required to make a full-size helicopter aerobatic. The Lynx is a great example - the standard design can't loop, but when it is has toughened blades, it can. If you tried to loop in the standard model, the flex of the blades would be such that whilst inverted it would cut its own tail off. That fact the Shark is so manouverable without suffering a blade collision is quite something. I think the co-axial rotor design is superior to the usual single-rotor/tail-rotor combo because of all the inherent problems with tail-rotor based helis. The only real downside to co-axial (the ability to whack the blades together) out-weighs all the problems of the single rotor design IMHO. I don't think there is anything that suggests a co-axial design is less reliable, either. Best regards, Tango.
  21. +1 The damage is not just random - it is realistic. #2 had a loss of power and I lost the right wing (due to a SAM I think), and a slow hydraulic leak. I didn't lose any blades or the hydraulics completely. Due to the assymentric weight/drag the thing wanted to yaw like crazy, and the asymmetric weight coupled with unimpeded lift of the right side (because the wing wasn't in the way) made for some interesting flying. Application of collective resulted in a realistic roll to the left, whilst high speed flight saw a marked yaw to the left due to the drag, and right roll tendency due to the lift from the remaining wing. It is worth getting shot just to appreciate how realistic it is. Best regards, Tango.
  22. Thanks for the refresher! Best regards, Tango.
  23. Best regards, Tango.
  24. I e-mailed them last night regarding the position sensing on the F-16 style pedals - it uses a hall effect device for the rudder function, and pressure sensors for the brakes. That makes it worth the price tag by a mile. Thanks for the link! If shipping costs are reasonable for the F-16 style pedals, I think I'll go with those. Best regards, Tango.
  25. Hi, It wasn't the firewall - I forgot to set a name in MP Options!! :( It's working fine now!! Thanks for the help! Best regards, Tango.
