  1. Flight director mode means you can choose your headings etc etc but the autopilot's damping systems are still active. So yes, when doing rocket or strafe attacks make sure the Flight Director is switched on. Otherwise you are fighting the autopilot and trying to attack...
  2. Actually, hovering in ground effect is one of the safest places to hover... You require less power to hover than when you are out of ground effect. This cushion of air actually helps support the aircraft. It also means you have a lot less distance to fall if you have an engine failure and need to autorotate... The same principle applies to fixed-wing aircraft, in effect, extra lift is generated. Particularly useful for soft and short field take offs. You can also accelerate quicker in ground effect too...
  3. May I suggest you read up on a helicopter's basic principles of flight? That might help you a little better in understanding how it works....
  4. For Vista users.. If you install into Program Files the screenshots will not appear due to folder permissions[?]. Needs to be installed elsewhere or use something like FRAPS.
  5. Well you can use the ABRIS to create your own flight plans. Once created you can choose to save it. When it's saved it becomes one of the "Company Routes". If it's saved to your harddrive then there's no reason why you can't send it on. But is it possible to send an ABRIS flight plan via datalink?
  6. I managed to get engines spooled with no ground power and no APU. I'm sure that would've placed some serious strain on the batteries! So you can shortcut that way if you need to too. But obviously it is probably not part of Mr Kamov's approved start up procedures.
  7. In your graphics card check your mipmap settings. That's most likely the cause of the problem...
  8. What about Flight Plans rather than just targets?
  9. ON the drop down menu where it says "BCE" select that and move down to the next option (It's highlighted in green - no idea what it says in Russkie). Then you can change the axes...
  10. I am on Vista Home Premium 32bit and have noticed a marked improvement. Not always in fps, but they're seeming to be much smoother.
  11. I've got a Cougar but no pedals and am currently using my crappy non-FFB Sidewinder...
  12. I'm a LOMAC/FCer at heart. Briefly dabbled with Falcon but couldn't get on with because of the graphics. I'm a real whore when it comes to eye candy... And I'm clicking. A couple of keystrokes have been commited to memory so far... Turn to Target and reset targeting systems. I haven't even bothered mapping anything to my stick yet either. Although I dare say when the Fast Movers from DCS come out I won't have that luxury and will have to map to stick due to the reduced thinking time you get...
  13. Not always. If the runway doesn't line up with the wind you can't... :)
  14. It weathercocks (gets turned into the wind because of the wind hitting the side of your helicopter it then pushes you round) as you would expect. But you're never going to struggle with a crosswind in a chopper because you can turn into wind whenever you want...
  15. Publishing can be a real bitch. No matter how many times you proofread a text things inevitably get missed. And invariably Quark/InDesign tends to mess things up, or it's a case of designers destroying all the copy! Just be glad you have a Manual before the game is released to the West. I know it'll be worth its weight in gold, warts and all.
  16. You might get it to work. Try it but make sure whichever button you're mapping it to has it's in-game mapping cleared. In the long run you are much better off creating a Foxy profile as you have a lot more control. One of the things I love about my profile is that when I drop chaffs or flares I only need to press the button once and it'll knock out a set of five at two second intervals. Leaves you free to get back to avoiding the missiles et al...
  17. You need to find an alternative to UKash as it's UK-only for the states. You may end up having to use PayPal...
  18. You need to map the launch key command to your stick. Default is right alt + space. The 'C' in the TV display is your launch authorisation. With Vikhrs for example you need to line up the heli with the target laterally. The launchers can tilt down but not to the side. Even with the "Turn to target" engaged you will need to make a small pedal input to get the Vikhr reticule in line. Also worth grabbing the English Key Commands PDF... See the sticky in this forum...
  19. Well it's true! I've never met a heli pilot who doesn't!
  20. Yes! Far too often. But I think it's because I'm pushing it too hard. I managed it last night. 200km/h approach to the FARP with 0 collective. Did a tight turn to slow it down and line up for the pad. Only it went a little wrong and I ended up going through my own downwash and became acquainted (yet again) with Vortex Ring...
  21. Do you tell her that helicopter pilots are optimistic to die of cancer?
  22. If I were you, I would not waste my time with FSX/EECH helis. Black Shark is the most realistic PeeCee sim I've flown, and you may be better off just understanding how a helicopter works. If you got a few quid to spare get hold of one of the Helicopter principles of flight training manuals. There's a lot to flying the Shark. Alternatively go and get some real life heli lessons :) The FSX helis are no where near the level of BS. You're talking child's play in FSX whereas in BS it'll bite you if you don't pay attention.
  23. I think what hitman means is the like the super technical piece of string you can find on the windscreen of a Robinson that shows you which direction the wind is coming from. I found myself dumped on the ground from vortex ring after a quickstop downind...
