  1. Hmm ... was just about to buy the module, and then I find this thread. I might wait.
  2. Update to 2.5.0 REP (Reality Expansion Pack) for X-Plane turns mediocre Carenado planes into higher fidelity beasties.
  3. Ah! I beg your pardon, must've been the curry I had for lunch. I thought it looked a bit too green :pain:
  4. I started rappelling from choppers in the early 80's and we were doing it as SOP (Recon 8/9RAR) way before that. If I recall correctly we went to blue-water nylon in 82/83? I'm guessing that's what you mean by 'fast-roping'.
  5. This is a component of what I'm hoping for in future modules because it enhances the whole concept of what it means to be a sandbox sim. We can already (and I do) use the slick Huey for that (and the Mi-eight). Can you assign combat tasks to infantry units in CA? That'd open up mission building ... can't say I've ever really looked ... maybe I should.
  6. Ah that's a bummer. Mind you that's probably more than enough for my flying lol.
  7. Very impressed with the update. Very-VERY impressed! She flies beautifully thank-you.
  8. Don't sweat it .. I've been around since Flanker 1.1 days and I only just noticed that too
  9. Unable to get to my rig @ the moment; but can you set wave limits in DCS? It'd be a challenge to try something like this. https://www.facebook.com/commonwealthforces/videos/979374278810971/
  10. Had a close up guided tour of the aircraft in the early '80s @ Butterworth Airbase. I thought back then it was super cool :). I'd never have thunk in a million years that I'd be flying one as a DCS module someday.
  11.
  12. I'm familiar with that role, but we used a Kiowa. Ah .. I see Enduro beat me to it :) I guess I did it really old school; by sight, with a prismatic compass, a protractor and a map ... and a radio.
  13. Yea! This would be perfect.
  14. If I *wanted* to fly purely civilian I'd fire up x-plane which in some respects is much more developed than DCS. Its helicopter modeling is quite complete as well, but I want to fly combat support roles in a hostile environment which is why I want DCS to be more complete in meeting it's stated aim of being a *sandbox* sim. Unweaponised aircraft fly in combat environments all the time! At least that's been my personal experience; I've never been transported ANYWHERE in a gunship and I've NEVER jumped from a fighter, so I don't know what your experience has been but I'm 100% certain that it wasn't in an environment where the only things that flew were dedicated combat aircraft. I sincerely hope that people start to broaden their concept of what constitutes the role of aviation in conflict ... and stop (vociferously!) expecting everyone to play in a DCS World recreating their favourite Top Gun fantasy ad nauseum. :smilewink: *That* is what cheapens the DCS experience ... NOT unweaponised airplanes. I have bought this module and look forward to the refinements to it's FM; but my question is still unanswered. @Poly_Phil - Is there a likelihood of an unweaponised version to be added in the future?
  15. Nice chopper, but any chance to have an unweaponised version down the track?
  16. Hear hear! A sandbox sim remember? That means it's up to the mission & campaign builders to create scenarios using the resources that DCS makes available; and over time I hope that becomes substantial. I bought into DCS because it promises to be a sandbox sim and a mighty fine one at that. Personally I lean towards WWII planes and helicopters for combat immersion, but I REALLY want to fly support roles. I always have admired the heck out of RW pilots who fly these support roles. I also want to fly bush style flying just for the challenge of it ... say resup for a weather bound inuit village in Alaska, or a taxi service in the New Guinea Highlands.
  17. Plus 1 for the Vietnam map
  18. Got that, thanks Shagrat. I'm liking the DCS choppers a lot, especially the Huey, she's really special. I fly mostly bush planes + choppers in X-Plane but never really got into DCS helicopters until very recently after I downloaded the NTTR terrain :). I'm tossing up whether to get the Mi-8; which means I'll probably convince myself I should ... eventually.
  19. +a zillion Also Australia & Pacific would be cool
  20. Ok, using simffb (it's the file from Jazzerman's post - thanks) and it's working for me in DCS 1.5. Haven't tried in 2 yet. Works a treat thanks guys! By golly the Gazelle is a feisty lass! Makes my old Huey feel venerable and staid :). Do the choppers all get to be PFM eventually?
  21. Ah tried this but the program crashes for me (Windows 10) ... tried the 64bit version first then tried the 32bit, then tried both in Win 7 compatibility mode.
  22. Ah, thanks! That explains it then.
  23. I experience a limp joystick (no centering forces at all) when I fire the Gazelle up; which makes it extremely difficult to control an already skittish FM (I know the FM is still being tweaked ... incidently; will this FM ever upgrade to the PFM?). **Note** that my js works perfectly with all other modules. I've tried the various tuning options via FF Tune in the Controller settings for this module on the off chance that it may have been designed differently but to no avail ... my stick stays limp. Now with the Huey (for example), the only time I experience the "limp stick syndrome" is when I invoke Force Trim but centering forces firm up as soon as I exit that mode. In other words, it works as intended. I've searched for similar functionality in the Gazelle but I can't seem to find it. Any help appreciated.
  24. Server rules and plane restrictions are set by whoever runs the server and the dictates of the mission/campaign itself. If a person is dead against a particular aircraft they needn't script it into the mission. Easy peasy ;).
  25. Ooh yeah! Amphibian Beaver, Otter or C185 please!
