F14 Skinners thread (Paintkit in 1st post)
Warlord64 replied to David A Sell's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
These peramiters are based on the skin being made in Gimp but similar with PS. First flatten the skin and when you Export as .dds you need to set the compression to say BC1/DTX1 then in mipmaps box apply generate mipmaps The mipmaps are the most impotant as they will show the skin in decreasing scales of resolution in game when zooming out -
They both Look Awesome Buddy:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: Keep em coming Keith

Thanks Buddy:thumbup::thumbup: I will try it out and let you know how I get on

Hi Steven I used a few sites as reference that show this livery to be attributed to W.Moritz flying from Memmingen,Germany,July 18th 1944. However the same aircraft was photographed at Schongau in August 1944 and was re-painted in a more anonymous scheme(one with Yellow under engine cowling) than the iconic Sturm JG3 Back Cowling scheme, but no further info is known whether he continued to fly this machine and if it remained in this anonymous scheme for the rest of the war beyond August 1944. As for the coding 681382 on the vertical stabiliser,I was going to add this but as I mentioned "All I couldnt do was remove the serial Number(550) and its box from the vertical stabiliser as I dont know how to script the description.lua file to remove it. So if anyone with the expertise could do this for Me and send me the ammended description.lua I would be very grateful." Hi Guys As there is no official Template/Skin pack yet I had to create my own Fully layered one from scratch which has layers for weathering,Lines & Rivets,National Markings,Warning Markings and paint etc. I made this Template using Gimp 2.8.22 and saved it as a psd so that it can be used in Photoshop as well as Gimp. Some 2.8 xcf files wont open in later versions of Gimp and vise versa so it might be worth having a copy of 2.8 as well as any newer version. Please feel free to use as you wish but any agknowledgement would be very much appreciated. Looking forward to seeing some great skins. The only thing I couldnt do was remove the serial Number(550) and its box from the vertical stabiliser as I dont know how to script the description.lua file to remove it. So if anyone with the expertise could do this for Me and send me the ammended description.lua I would be very grateful. Heres what I think it looked like based on the photo's BUT We are all just surmising based on what is known about the colours used by this unit at the time and some varying colour plate representations. I have tried to match the font style as much as possible from the few photo's available for this aircraft Download Skin Here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3211811/?sphrase_id=12902918

Hi Guys Here is another B-17G Skin that I originally made back in 2017 using my own Layered Template that I created before the ED one was released. 'Flak Eater' (WF-J) was assigned to 364th Bomb Squadron 305th Bomb Group Chelveston (England) on May 17, 1944 and later transferred to 351st Bomb Group at Polbrook on May 23,1945 then scrapped December 1945. I have included a 364thBS 305thBG 'No Codes' Skin so individual Aircraft Serial Numbers and Codes as well as any Nose Art can be added if required. Cheers Keith:salute: DOWNLOAD: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/2875958/

F14 Skinners thread (Paintkit in 1st post)
Warlord64 replied to David A Sell's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Hi Darbzy I had already made my own Fully Layered Template with Gimp before the Paint kit was released so if you want it here it is http://www.mediafire.com/file/bzbrw36k6rlsltr/F14-B+Tomcat+Template.rar. I have made it a bit more user friendly than the HB paint kit and there a far fewer element Layers so less overwhelming also its in Gimp so should load a lot quicker for you. For some reason Heatblur have made the F14 Skins in PSD format that cant be opened in normal way but after a lot of searching i found a free piece of software that opens them, its a bit fidely but it works. GO TO https://www.freephototool.com/ File > Open > go to F14b Liveries Folder > select Skin Folder > click on part you want to work on and it will appear in window > Press File > Export as > JPG > A box will appear called 'Save for web' drag quality to 100% then Save. Another box will open just click OK and a larger image will open now Copy and Paste into Gimp. The image is by already 4096 x 4096 so no scaling is required. Make sure you add all the individual elements that you have changed are applied to the HB_F14_LOD1_3in1.dds otherwise the skin you created will disappear at distance Now you can create your own skins BUT remember to Export as .dds BC1/DXT1 > Generate Minmaps Use the Modelviewer(in bin folder) to check that the skin you created is working Good Luck and Happy Skinning Regards Keith:thumbup: -

Disclaimer: I did NOT create the Template but just adapted the Original. I made this Template because the Original one doesn't seem readly available anymore and there are a lot of guys out there who want it. I have taken the Original ED Template and simplified it by making the Layers more user freindly. The Template is in PSD format which can also be used with Gimp. Cheers Keefyboy http://www.mediafire.com/file/htpmvhsxpxhaf23/DCS+World+Fw-190+Template.rar

Hi Bucic I am confused Buddy, you say "Movie productions a la GA is not necessarily what I'm after" and that you are "an in-flight motion junkie" yet you reference one of Glowing Amraam's Videos for its in-flight motion:huh: -

Hi Bucic At last,We need more videos focusing on external views as well as cockpit views. Most so called movies are just cockpit view and no real in depth action from different camera perspectives. Lukas S does some awesome Tutorial videos especially for DCS Moviemaking and Glowing Amraam has written an excellent in depth guide into setting up Mission Builder for Dogfight Movie making https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=22099 these Guys really know their stuff, check em out. -

SKIN: B-17 Little Miss Mischief of the 324th BS, 91st BG
Warlord64 replied to Warlord64's topic in DCS: WWII Assets Pack
Hi Major Hero Sorry I havnt replied sooner but have been on lates at work. Thanks for the great feedback about B-17 Skin Little Miss Mischief.:) When I make a skin I always try to make the best screenies I can show them in the best way possible. With this particular skin I used a feature that DCS Skinners use called ModelViewer which is located in the root folder Eagle Dynamics\DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\bin\ModelViewer Click ModelViewer and when it opens click on File Eagle Dynamics\DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Bazar\World\Shapes then select from the menu the Aircraft, object etc then click it to open then the Model will appear on screen. Now click View > Dialogs > Liviries Dialogs in Menu box under Database Type scroll down to the Type for you displayed model then click and in the Livery Name box a list of all the skins for that model will appear just select the one you want and it will be placed on to the model. Now click View > MSAA > 8X this will sharpen the image. Now start experimenting with the sliders to get the desired effect. I then take a screenshot and Paste to Gimp/Photoshop then crop the image sharpen a little bit more save as a JPG then thats it Done. To the right of the screen are 3 Sliders. Env = Preset lighting modes(which I use Most) Rain= Light to heavy Rain Sun= 24Hr Sunlight Cycle Mouse Controls Hold down L Button and move mouse around Model Hold down R Button to Zoom by pushing Mouse Back/Forward Hold down Alt + shft + L Button and use mouse to move the model Hold down Alt + shft + R Button and use mouse to move the camera position This may seem complicated but its simple just follow verbatim and you should be fine Any probs come back to Me. Good luck Buddy:thumbup: Keith
