  1. Cyclic: ghetto-extended VKB Gladiator II on a Monstertech centre chair mount. Collective: was a Thrustmaster TWCS throttle mounted vertically to mimic (somewhat) the movement of a collective handle; currently playing with turning it into a collective lever so it's the throttle's guts and handle, some 3D-printed parts, and a whole lot of gorilla tape. Pedals: MFG Crosswind V2.
  2. It's not a true fix but have you considered using something like JoyToKey to make your twist throttle emulate DCS's throttle up/down buttons? That would at least let you use the throttle idle position and stop in a reasonably consistent manner.
  3. Too true, and I'm certainly not complaining about it. Safety is good, but (to put it crudely) nowadays people are probably inserting objects containing such batteries into delicate portions of their anatomy, and I'll bet said objects are neither fireproof nor shock-resistant.
  4. Just curious, but what on Earth do you lot do with/to your controllers that this needs to come with a fireproof case?
  5. The space pen was funded entirely as a private venture. The pencils were a fire hazard. The moral of the story is that low-tech isn't guaranteed to be the best solution. And by God do I want to be able to throw money at a Hind in DCS.
  6. Smallrig make 225mm-long carbon-fibre tubes that are strong, light, and at 15mm diameter just right to match the shaft of the Gladiator base. Internal diameter gives plenty of room to thread through any wiring. £20 a pair on Amazon. Not saying you should mod your joystick, and I'm pretty sure any warranty you had would go right out the window; but if you need a straight extension then this is one readily-available option.
  7. Mouse mats make excellent friction pads top keep one's pedals in place (both on carpet and hard flooring).
  8. How does the base compare for size with that of a Gladiator II? Does it have the same mounting-hole spacing?
  9. My TrackClip Pro's clip cracked and broke after six months; by that point the LED arm was held on by electrician's tape and wishful thinking. My wireless replacement(looks like the one you're holding)'s clip snapped after another six months (the LED arm is far sturdier than the original, though). YMMV.
  10. If you do go TrackIR, don't waste any money on the TrackClip Pro. It's wired, which is annoying; and fragile, which is worse. The few direct wireless replacements I've tried are, IME, just as fragile. I've just replaced my TrackClip with a Delanclip Fusion. Seems pretty sturdy and works at least as well as the TrackClip Pro.
  11. TrackIR 5 on a monitor about 1/2" thick: TrackIR 5 by Jean-Yves, on Flickr TrackIR 5 by Jean-Yves, on Flickr The three legs on the camera are sufficiently articulated that they'll grip a 1/4"-thick monitor. A little blu-tack will keep it in place.
  12. I'm using TrackIR v5 (mostly for IL-2 as it doesn't have a clickable cockpit and fumbling for controls while playing in VR is a great way to become a bullet-sponge) and just picked up a Delanclip Fusion. Main reason is that TrackIR works best with an active light source, and the TrackClip Pro is an overly-fragile POS. Never heard of smoothtrackbefore but I might give it a go. Whatever head tracker you use, you should find it a real improvement over having to look using your mouse or joystick hat button.
  13. You have to be running DCS World open beta to be able to install it. Guess how much time I've spent today - Hell, I'm still spending - on switching over.
  14. Thanks for the info.
  15. Is there anything about the base that makes it unable to support the MCG, or is it just that the base wasn't designed explicitly to support the MCG and therefore VKB can't guarantee that it'll work properly.
  16. Even using a TrackClip Pro* you'll have to block stray sunlight, otherwise TrackIR (I have v. 5) goes haywire. *(These are junk. Look for a third-party option. This is the one I have now and it's excellent, but I can't remember from where I bought it) (Edit: pretty sure it was from aviasimmer)
