We are all headed for a dirtnap one day so does anything matter? Facebook bought out Oculus for $3 billion in the before time (2014). It effects the usage by the concept of monetizing the Oculus Rift platform through integrated ads for facebook or whatever they choose to advertise, which in my opinion will only increase over time as all advertising does. They also collect information on rift usage. The terms and conditions include a line saying that the headset will collect “Information about your physical movements and dimensions when you use a virtual reality headset”, along with a range of more usual information like data about users’ computers and location. One line makes clear that Oculus and Facebook will be able to use the information it collects to market to people. “We use the information we collect to send you promotional messages and content and otherwise market to you on and off our Services", etc.etc. You might enjoy that, I don't.

Ultimate decision for me is what DCS decides to support, finger Tracking is what I'm waiting for. The Valve Index has my attention now, but I'm going to wait to replace the CV1 until more of the various units are out. I not a facebook fan, so I'll be happy to ditch it, not necessarily the Rift. The optical finger tracking on the Vive, Vive Pro and Cosmos looks cool too and the SDK was just released. One thing is for sure, I can't wait to flip virtual switches in the Viper when the time comes.

@dogbite: Alt+enter? Excellent, thanks. I'll try holding off on the diluted alcohol, that's what's in the wipes the oculus team uses -unoffically anyway. (in a super low concentration) https://forums.oculus.com/vip/discussion/34376/light-scratches-on-cv1-lens-after-using-lens-cloth http://www.mcrsafety.com/safety-equipment/glasses/lct From the MSDS: Isopropyl Alcohol: 20-30 Weight-%* Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether: 1-10 Weight-%* *Weight-% is listed as a range, the specific chemical identity and/or percentage of composition has been withheld as a trade secret.

Hello all. I had the DK2 and finally took the plunge on a CV1. I'm about to jump into setting this all up again after being away from DCS for sometime. I have three quick questions. One, is there any guide or quick set-up sticky somewhere? Two, how do I output the rift or "mirror" it to my monitor for others outside the rift to see what's going on? And finally three, I think I used 70% isopropyl alcohol diluted 4:1 on my DK2 but was going to try 12:1 on my CV1 (closer to lens wipe strength? I believe)=(2.5ml 70% isopropyl alcohol with 30ml of distilled water or 1/2 TEAspoon to 2 TABLEspoons). Yes I saw the no fluid cleaning warning stickers. To make everyone cringe a little more, I used bounty paper towels. Damp, not over saturated very gently and had zero scratches on my DK2 I dried them with an also slight damp paper towel. I realize we can't remove these lenses but my facial grease is strong with the force. I don't think the microfiber will cut it. It may be a $630 mistake but we will all see if it comes down to that or not when the time comes. Thanks for any advise like don't use isopropyl alcohol on acrylic.

I had mine two clicks out. I just remeasured my eye position for current device and pushed it all the way out too. (Like it says to) which I did to begin with...but, I may have been screwing my brain up, I realized that it has left and right lines to stare at, but it didn't specify to close the eye not being calibrated. I had both eyes open when I started, too excited to really read the instructions...it looks to me like you need to just look through one eye at a time...duh. They should have specified that for morons. I still have to try and fly with the new settings....maybe I won't have such a hard mind job this time. I also cranked the screen all the way back in for the widest FOV. Seems much better now.
-
I've been meaning to ask everyone this, what's everyone's eye relief setting on the dial set to, and does your dial setting change with too much force applied when putting the rift on/off?
-
Try making sure the rift is setup right in the Nvidia control panel settings. I'd also change my primary monitor to a 75hz refresh rate at any resolution so the rates match. It made a huge difference for me. Inside DCS leave it at 1920x1080 for the rift. Also, are you pausing the service under tools advanced pause?(configuration utility)-before starting dcs...and uncheck dk1 support box in rift display mode...mine always checks itself back by itself and I go to a 3dof cockpit instead of 6dof...it's weird. If it happens just restart everything. also since it's two monitors remember to mouse right to rift, left to primary or vise versa depending on your setup.
-
@DerekSpeare Try setting your primary monitor to 75 hz at any resolution in my case it was 1280x1024. Leave all DCS graphics settings low at 1920x1080 res. It seems in my case the rift was running at a 60 hz refresh rate(primary monitor setting) which made it pretty horrible to look at.
-
Wow! Huge difference! I'm not sure if it was the update or me changing my primary to a lower res at the same 75 Hz refresh rate as the rift, but it's a major improvement. It's finally playable for me now. I flew around for a few minutes and didn't get sick. Very cool.

Really? Makes sense, damn X52 Pro. I'm really looking forward to that now, thanks!

@ Buznee: That's funny you mention that. That's how I've felt the past few days. Almost like reality is the video game (DCS is a sim- just an analogy) with the fake looking artificial head bob and artifical movements. I've been wacked out too, enough to buy Dramamine long after the fact. It's been almost two full days. The last thing I tried was the spacewalk demo which starts you off in a spin...I was like yeaaaah, gonna' pass on that for now.
-
Just one? :music_whistling: I might be overusing that to deal with my regular reality already. LOL. -That's already a given, but thanks. :D
-
@starsky396 The 3D rainbow looking effect at the bottom of your view? Buznee is right, go into the Oculus Configuration utility under advanced I think (I'm on a different PC) and pause service. -latest Beta SDK, also have Extended mode checked under the rift mode?. If you don't have 6 DOF close out everything and try again, that's what has worked for me. Get ready for a mind job,and maybe have a trash can nearby just in case. I think the older you get the more prone to motion sickness you become.
-
Word of advise, don't intentionally try to make yourself sick in the Rift. Hey guys I figured it out. I fired everything up and it worked. Was like WTF? Closed out and got the 4 DOF thing again. What I have noticed is the DK1 legacy deal keeps checking itself somehow after I exit DCS (force ably close icon on desktop) not through the DCS exit. When this is off the tracking works after pause...but somehow comes back on again and since I never really looked at it again after pausing (I did notice yesterday it kept coming on) but didn't put 2 and 2 together. Works now I'll just have to go into it every time before opening DCS.
-
Yep sure have, but I don't have as much lean in/out or side to side as he has, not sure why. Are you using the Oculus as primary?
-
@Buznee Nice. I must still be doing something wrong, in your video it looks like you have 6DOF, how are you controlling that? I'm locked into pretty much L-R and UP-Down. Belive it or not, but I think that's what is making me more nauseous.

DK2. I have an EVGA GTX 780 overclocked and a i7-4930k if that can't get 75 FPS with a SSD something's wrong somewhere. I wish we could find a way to verify the refresh rate or lock DCS world at a fixed frame rate, not a max. I tried it a 120/75fps max with no difference I can remember. I finally had to drop everything to low. Windows 7 won't show a refresh rate in windows it's just blank(what I was fighting all day)...nvidia showes the correct 75hz but maybe I'm missing something. I just feel mentally beat up with a side order of eye strain. I was at it for a good 5-6 hours trying all kinds of stuff off and on. I think I just need to recover and try again. I've only been trying to get DCS running so far. P.S. Huey was awesome....and for all the poor suckers out there like me....Num key 5 is to center your Rift.
-
Does anybody else want to admit they get Oculus sickness? I spent half of my day setting it up and was at my limit due to frame rate lag/smearing/judder. After getting it finally "right" I took a long break (still felt a little illness...kinda' like a hangover) and took the P-51 for a spin, took off and made a bank and had to rip it off again or hurl. That being said, it was still pretty awesome. I don't know how to explain it, but it feels like I'm pulling G's in my mind. It's like my brain is being fooled and we all know what should happen when you pull a turn, and when you see that, at least for me it's like my brain is like...Hey! Nothings happening? So it imposes artificial G forces from your mind to fill in the void. Really weird. Guess I wouldn't have made it as a real pilot. Now was it me, or is the L to R side slide direction locked down as well as the zoom?
-
Hummm...last hurdle is extreme blurring. How do I confirm the framerate while running the rift? -Holy Vomit Comet Batman! Wow....really messes with your head, feels like your really crashing. Very cool...hope I can build up a tolerance.
-
@hansangb Bless you sir, and many thanks!
-
Figured it out. We really need a "how to" guide. Disable full screen option...and pause OVR service.
-
Alright guys, I'm plugged in, ran the demo, everything works...but I can't get DCS to headtrack and I think something isn't right I can see DCS running, but it looks like it's running with an old 3D glasses video effect filter applied. What the hell am I doing wrong? Also as far as the tracking goes, do I have to assign keys like trackir for centering etc?
