  1. y2kiah, I edited my last post to include a few more details. The last thing that needs to be worked out is how to hide the pipe. It would have to enter into the parachute container bag on top from the bottom, but I'm not sure how that bag opens, the only thing I can think of, is you may have to make a wire frame basket or thin light weight sheet metal box (with 2 hinged outward opening doors parallel to the opening) skinned with the canvas chute pack over it, or the same with some hidden opening flap or flaps in the bag that could easily blow open if the real one's fasteners don't release. Or maybe replace the original fastner/fasteners with really small pieces of velcro, just enough to barley hold it closed. Now I just wish I had an Aces II ejection seat to put this into, so I could build the thing and try it out.
  2. y2kiah, it depends on how much room you have behind the seat pan...with PVC you can change anything to fit your situation, below is a rough design, I went with 3in. for more air capacity, PVC SCH 40, the bottom is a split tank and the 3in. tube will have more room to fit in a drogue chute, but you could probably get away with 2in. I also wanted to keep it midline so it could be centered in the seat with a rear access panel for filling. The lengths are what ever works for your situation. The 3/4 sprinkler valves are quick release and are cheap, around $10-15 bucks they are supposed to be run on 24 volts AC but I saw an air gun build where a guy took three 9volts batteries in series on a 24volt valve and it's worked fine for the last 4 years. What's that? Like 27 volts @ 1.5 amps DC? He claims he proved an electrical engineer wrong...anyway, I figured you could have 2 micro switches both momentary one for the eject and one to arm, and also act as a real safety . I guess you already know how to tie that into the sim as I have no clue. PVC is rated to 450 psi so no worries, I think around 40-60 psi would probably be enough. The valve stem has to be drilled and fitted to an end cap, I used a one piece rubber one, they do have better metal ones that are attached on the inside with a nut, and are also pretty cheap. If you end up using this you'll have to post some pics. Almost forgot the well pressure gauge, it was around $12-15 bucks two years ago when last I checked. All PVC joints are cemented together, (I always use the PVC cleaner prior to applying cement) and the threaded fittings need teflon tape, or paste on them to seal. Also, you'll want to screw in the 3/4 threaded pieces into the sprinkler valve first followed by the reducers and thread the gauge into the 1/4 threaded to 3/4 slip, the reason being you'll be able to line them up correctly when cemented and they won't bottom out in the wrong place. Lastly, I'm pretty sure this will achieve a venturi effect when it chokes down to 3/4 so the air velocity should increase that much more. Just a reminder, this is a rough drawing. :D
  3. A solenoid operated sprinkler valve is what you'd need! Rated to 125 psi. Cheap too, usually less than 12-20 bucks. I guess what I just described is really just an air cannon modified to be in a seat. With air cannon plans a plenty on the net, this would be really easy to do. edit- The more I think about this, the cooler it becomes, you could have a shut-off switch tied into the ejection seat arming lever so that it actually works as a safety mechanism too!
  4. y2kiah, I've been following your build since the start of this thread and am rather envious that I don't posses the skills to complete one of my own. I was having a what would I do moment, and thought the only thing you need to figure out now, is how to incorporate a small firing drogue sized chute into your ejection seat, say by packing it in a tube hidden in the seat and firing it out with compressed air, if for nothing more then to just scare the hell out of people pulling the handle for the first time. It could be controlled via a simple linkage to the ejection handle and connect to a cheap spring loaded purge valve from an air compressor tank or even an electronic actuator. As for a tube and tank, PVC could provide a cheap simple solution, a small section of say 3 in. pipe capped with the proper adapted fittings could work nicely. I've built something similar in the form of a 2-liter bottle water rocket launcher and usually charge it to 90 psi, I even put a pressure gauge on it for filling. Does that sound like something you might try to design? It could be a really cool show piece for your build.
  5. Does Apollo 18 for Commodore 64 count? I had that before Red Baron.
  6. I'd have to agree with that. I'm just Joe Blow consumer, but I'd say ED is reaching the limits of it's current entertainment side of The Fighter Collection Simulation Engine and is going to have to go through growing pains with future modules, but if I'm not mistaken, I think that was their plan? I'm sure they will handle it in the end. "In the simulation world, the only letters you need to get eveything from A to Z, is TFC and ED." How's that for a future slogan? :D -Can I get a free copy of the next module for that?
  7. I may try that this time around, but I'd venture a guess the lua and cfg files will be different.
  8. 1.1.0.7 banashed me to the nether reaches of stutter hell. For more info, feel free to glance here.
  9. Maybe perhaps I heard the same thing, perchance? I was refering to having time to set-up/tweak the sim all over again...as I am happy to do, and have had to do with each patch...but the try a change, exit, restart, step and repeat takes a lot of time, for me anyway...time that I won't have next weekend. That is what I was referring to, I always have time enough to hop in for a joy ride. So even if it makes the projected release next Friday, I'll still have to wait to see my fire indicator lights come on as I crash and burn some time after.
  10. Lame. I have a free weekend and was hoping to waste it on setting up 1.1.0.8. Figures, Friday the 13th and all...oh well.
  11. So I guess that means...no 1.1.0.8 today?
  12. Too funny, it seems that's all I do now, just walk around going.."burrrrrruuuuuuuuuuppp" for no reason. :D
  13. Just in case anyone missed the 5-day 1.0.0.8 chance of release forecast for today, it was 20 percent chance today then clearing in the evening with a 50/50 percent chance for whining to yourself over the weekend, followed by a 20% chance on Monday and Tuesday with a 100% chance of several rereadings of the change log followed by the uncontrollable urge to view the ED twitter page over and over again.
  14. Cool! I hope it comes out this week. I've got my fingers crossed that we get our fire indicator lights back in 1.1.0.8.
  15. -If only this was DCS Harrier :(
  16. So, simulation feature + unclear instruction = < happy consumer? Non sequitur. Your facts are uncoordinated. It does not compute.
  17. Dude! Iceman...what the hell happened? Time to drop the doritos bag and get back to the gym.
  18. I just wish they would tell us already, or at least drop a hint about when they are planning to announce what's next, just so I could stop checking 10 times a day. Hey!...I gots to know.
  19. Rain would be nice, but an internal damaged cockpit model to match the outside damage model would be even nicer.
  20. Red Baron! It was the coolest sim ever...except when you became a P.O.W. or died...R.I.P.
  21. The fire indicator lights are still not working, it's really touchy now and my stutters are back after I had exorcised them, it looks like I need to get more holy water and sit down to try and redo all my settings again...if I only had more time.
  22. Maybe the rules should be amended to include a "Don't ask, we'll tell you when we're ready" policy? :music_whistling:...or something to that effect, all joking aside, it just might save you guys a lot of headaches and repetitive questions in the future...as long as people actually read and obey it.
  23. From ED Twitter: "Testing 1.1.0.7 and looking pretty good so far. Not perfect, but much better than 1.0.0.6."
  24. Here's a video of those big size hornets in Texas. http://www.myspace.com/video/vid/15391957
  25. HEY THANKS! Without your help, I don't know what I would have done! Thank you for clearing up the diffenence between an insect and a comptuter aircraft simulator, because you obviously don't know about insects. Without your help, I would have never found a site about insects. Without a doubt, you are a selfless and caring person to share so much information. Peace and contentment be with you for all of your years.
