  1. Good to hear that. Make yourself a cup of tea before reading... ;) In Warsaw pact countries personal callsigns were usually used. If same callsign covers several subdivisions the number was added to callsign. For example, Voron groups are platoon containing 4 squads with their own operational tasks (thus communications as well). Therefore, they are Voron-1, Voron-2 and so on. The names for callsigns are unique and abstract, sometimes close to absurd. Just for your interest – Voron is raven in Russian, Tur – kind of bull, Barkhan – sand dune, Vint – screw\propeller. NATO is using such principle as well but very rarely – for taskforces and for certain operations. Instead, Alpha, Bravo etc. are widely used. They also can be Alfa-2, Bravo-34. In military radio communication no precise rules are set. The most important is that messages clearly describe actions and situation. Sometimes callsigns are omitted during communication session if context and identities of the speakers are evident. The communication is split into channels. The helo may not hear the ground, just tactical officer. The latter decides who should listen to whom and what to do. The pilot certainly may tune up to hear ground units but this is practically impossible, since it’s difficult to know all subdivisions’ frequencies which are often changing in every tactic situation. Especially in hostilities area. Portable radio transmitters are often blocked to work in full duplex mode on several channels. One can fully communicate on one channel, and only listen to a few others (if the frequencies are known). But normally all subdivisions are deprived of such possibility in fighting conditions unless there is a clear need. This excludes confusions when requests are duplicated or unauthorized inquiries are put forward. If you know little Russian, you may listen to Chechnya, Groznyy 1995 records on Youtube. The bandits scanned the frequencies and cut into radio exchange between two speakers (not wide broadcast, of course). It’s not difficult and expensive nowadays.
  2. I updated this post with answers made by leroni to all questions. :smartass: 553 - 5.53 – sunrise time. 1251 - 12.51 – daylight time hours. 1844 - 18.44 – sunset time. Time and date indicated below. This is tactical rule and symbol pointing to astronomic dates of the situation. Generally, we will be using 24-hours scale. These are peculiarities of waypoint realization in Black Shark. First “10” is editor’s note, while second “10” says to ABRIS what to show in flight. Otherwise ABRIS will show 000010 which is not convenient. Yes, this is the name of Air Squadron Army Helicopters Group originating from its location, city of Maikop. Do not look for any similiarity between real events, fact and campaign story. All is fiction. There is no Army Helicopters Group Maikop as well as Sochi or Adler base. They have different names in real life. This is indicated on the map (two lines of text with horizontal line between them) – callsign on top and quantity, type and, if situation requires, time (of exit, approach, withdrawal etc.). There is place only for assumptions here. It’s not known what particular air defence forces will be used. But you have to be concerned about it. In general, it is very difficult to get precise data on enemy airforce. The high command would normally, based on its own plans and intentions, presume that enemy will engage fighters. It is a real threat. Which threat – not really important. You must just be ready. And not consider the enemy to be a fool. Better to overrate that underestimate. During an action, open military confrontation you can obtain info on quantity and models, but not info on which aircrafts and when will be engaged – these are just estimates. AWACS may indicate this on approach, but AWACS is not used here. No need for that. I don’t know where did you take it from… . It’s indicated (in briefing and on maps) that the story starts at07:12 in the morning of 08 September 20xx year. No refueling needed unless stated otherwise. Where it’s necessary – it’s indicated as required procedure. Moreover, the exit from operational area may be punished with scores (%) substraction. Thus it will not be possible to complete the mission. The roles of all aircrafts are set based on full combat fuelling. Not more than 50-60% of fuel must be used in the mission. Uncomplete fuelling is strictly forbidden! This is real. Any aircraft (provided it is operational) shall be refuelled and armed acc. to full scheme. Even if there are no tasks for nearest time. In any air subdivision (as well as in others, e.g. tanks) there is a “regular” armory scheme which is compulsory to “hang on” if not instructed otherwise. If different instruction arrived, armory specialists change the load as necessary. This is a rule as well. If there is no info about that – it means that you’re on your own. The missions are quite possible to be accomplished by one helicopter. There will be a notice when wignman is to join you in the mission. It's not really important with such strike strength. The strike covers vast area. You just need to know that this area contains sighnificant enemy forces and bomb assault raid is feasible. Statistics and precise info are needed for open military confrontation. This will happen later. In line with all reconnaissance efforts, there are actions of enemy military counterintelligence which aim at hiding the forces quantity. This is equally not important. We are talking about revenge act here. The main thing is that all bombs are dropped and all machinery in certain area destroyed. General remark. If partied had full package of info about forces, armaments and quantity – there would be no wars at all. Two parties can’t win simultaneously. If there is little data, but good "sixth sense" and some undoubtful facts (previous battles and transgressors violating the border in certain area), such an instrument is used as preventive attack. This is what actually takes place in mission #016. No sense to spend time on supplementary reconnaissance, data clarification etc. Better to place an strike! Brifieng, maps and radio communication contain all necessary information. There will be no redundant information. Just information that is related to task and sucessful mission accomplishment. This doesn’t matter in this situation. The campaign starts 31.09. 20... for the pilot. But one can presume that smth happened before, isn’t it right? The parties observe each other constantly. That’s their main job on the border. Watching and making conclusion, assumptions etc. Information analysis. In reality the flight briefings are even shorter than above. We are trying to fit 1\2 page. Our hero has no other position to access additional information. He is a simple pilot now. Combat pilots usually are given only the necessary information so that when captured they are in holy and safe ignorance: nothing to say if you don’t know anything. There are many unpleasant surprises for the hero in “Vergeev Group” campaign. They can be avoided only through rational and logical thinking. For example, the exit maneuver after bomb assault strike on Georgian border guard post when AA guns start firing along the route. One can easily suppose that all AA weapons would be activated immediately after such an accident. And withdrawal should be conducted on maximum speed, as a minimum. The campaign has a plot. Therefore, all past events influence on current and future activities. It’s advisable to remember what happened where so that you’re not lying beneath your chopper wreckage some day.
  3. To support the discussion we are posting some material from mission #16. Here go some pictures, maps, introductory briefing and voice samples (at the moment - in Russian only) of in-flight briefing. The voice belongs to leroni and illustrates quality of the sound only; will be replaced with actors' voices afterwards. Mission 16 is most spectacular of first 20 missions. Just a reminder: #16 is not part of demo-version (#11,12,13) 08.09. 20.. . Group named after Vergeev I.O., Hero of Russia 24th Air Squadron Army Helicopters Group Maikop 07:12 Tuesday Sochi base Good day, comrade officers! Glad to see you in good spirits and health. It’s day two of the Armistice. Our “colleagues” from the Georgian side are, apparently, keeping to armistice conditions. But we won’t behave in same manner. For last few days, since dry cargo ship “Kurshev” incident, we have sustained too many losses as for peace time in order to leave such a fact without attention. Whereas earlier we have been maintaining the order on state border and on our territory, this first flight today will be a combat one. And you won’t get “Crossing of state border prohibited!” order today. According to plan of Army Helicopters Group Maikop headquarters operation “Margarita”, an act of revenge, was developed. We are striking from air onto Georgian border guard post in Western part of Aibga settlement. The reconnaissance party reports on heavy concentration of manpower and material assets which, most likely, will be used in the future against our homeland. Flight of Su-27, “Vint” of senior lieutenant Buchman will attack first. He stays in the area after drop and covers the runs of other shock groups. Flight of Mig-29 hits right after. Captain Saruhanov as leader. Callsign – “Barkhan”. Our high achiever “Tur” with Ka-50 removes individual targets and mops up the sector. “Tur” approaches the zone first as he knows local conditions well. He will correct all attack groups’ work when necessary. The only request to “Tur” – not to stick his neck out. Despite the panic among Georgians which is possible due to strike strength, they can set out rather unexpected conterblow. This pertains not only to MANPADs. We’re expecting high activity of enemy airforces. The positions shall often be changed if possible. Use landscape for secret surveillance. You know this area, officer. When all attack groups return to base, the flight of Mi-24, “Fixator”, under major Zelinsky command, will come out. Vasiliy Ivanovich, your job is to attack the base remains with rockets. This is to provide for disturbance of Georgians. The similar raid will be performed in the nighttime by captain Dropkin crew on Mi-28, “Atard”. Good luck to all. Take your seats! The order: 1.Silently approach Aibga settlement area. 2.Adjust “Vergeev Group” air raid on border guard post in Aibga settlement. 3.Search and destroy the individual targets at guard post area in Aibga settlement. 4.Entrusted armaments and army property must stay safe and sound. Discharge! startmission_VG016.rar
  4. leroni thanks for helping me out in this thread :smilewink: Thanks for drawing a cheer! BTW, I've downloaded your campaign before and suggested to our local online community to fly it. Hope, I will find time to participate. :pilotfly: I presume that developing multi-player campaign is much more difficult due to increased necessity of correct synchronization and online testing with different player roles.
  5. I can't tell you now, since it was my collegue leroni who draw the map. I've forwarded your question to him. What I know that it's based on in-game editor screenshot. He has also tried to draw the map by hand with pen tablet, which is more realistic (since real pilots draw it yourself) but, unfortunately, much more time-consuming. Maybe, he will show this handwritten version which, personally, I like a lot. Thanks isoul for answering this question. The link can be found via google or alike. E.g. http://window.edu.ru/window_catalog/redir?id=56730&file=harkev2.pdf But it's in Russian. If I come across the translated material - I will post in this thread. The links posted above might also be useful (use online translation service).
  6. You described the development of the situation correctly. The only small things I can add are: 1) Voron-4 was trying to attack blue forces but came across the minefields set up by blue team. The mines are also shown to the east and west of blue position, but this is a mistake that we will correct (since red did not approach blue from these directions they can't report on minefields). 2) The attacks of Su-25 and Ka-50 are marked as uncompleted so this is correct to state that these are future (planned) events. 3) The time and coordination of actions will be additionally explained by flight operations officer (FOO) and during briefing at HQ. It's not directly indicated on the map (however, one can logically understand that). Of course, you are welcome to put additional questions and comments. We will appreciate any effort to help us polish the campaign. Since this is mission 13, this story has start and finish. The player will, of course, be informed about background when launching this mission.
  7. Ясно, надо еще полетать. А то я македонский "русский" совсем не понимаю. Только когда успеваю читать текстовые сообщения. :D
  8. Ты серьезно? :smartass:
  9. Yes, the campaign is a commercial project (it can't be simply other way around considering all the work done\to be done). The price should be fine.
  10. Toast and Chopper Pork Thanks for support. The campaign is going to be static. The question in first post is not fully answered yet. Can anyone make a story out of that, not just bullets...:music_whistling:
  11. Hi Chopper_Pork, As for guy who pretends to be no expert on reading tactical maps, you did a nice job . Still, the map shows more than that. You've described a situation in static mode. Try to make it dynamic, like: who did what, what are the prospective tasks\actions for each unit etc. Of course, tactical map is just part of information available to the pilot, one will certainly get a briefing at HQ and instructions via radio while in flight. Nevertheless, we believe that pilot should always know a little more than his direct mission in order to make better decisions if smth goes not according to plan. Yeah, you cracked a second nut...:smilewink: Since we already put some pictures and words about it in Russian part of the forum, I will do the same here. Yep, this is one of the maps for mission 013 of "Vergeev group" campaign. My collegue leroni (btw, he is lieutenant colonel in reserve :police:) with my assistance and back-up is developing the first part of "Vergeev group" campaign which consists of approx. 200 missions. Scenario for 186 mission is ready. This results in 100 days of training&fighting tasks for a pilot who is doing 1-3 flight daily. Working for a few months by now in close contact with DCS team, who provides us with valuable advice. We want to make it as realistic as it is at all possible utilizing the tools DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark provides. The announcement has been delayed a number of times. Initially, we started to develop it suitable to vast majority of players compromising towards arcade (but still very realistic). But keeping in mind our initial idea and hearing to advice of experienced "wolfs", we decided to proceed as necessary. The campaign is developed in both Russian and English versions. The audio dubbing is mutli-voice with professional actors. Therefore, we had a delay with epidemic flu, when nearly all actors got sick. FYI, we included a small bonus for English language community - the actors where asked, despite their nice English, not to hide the Russian accent. It is still well understandable, but gives you a local atmosphere. You should like it. The third delay reason is our own decision. We planned to release 10 those "arcade" missions as demo-version but then decided it will not be a good example of standard we are keeping to. We will release 3 "hardcore" missions (11, 12, 13) from the campaign in late January. We have to allow the actors to earn some money on New Year and Christmas parties...:P These missions are not dull at all, meant for a pilot with 40 hours of flight time. Based on real life, where along with routine one have to handle difficult non-typical and fighting tasks. The total campaign flight time when completed will constitute approx. 200 hours. Despite we sometimes fly every mission 6-8 times, we enjoy our job a lot. And hope, that you will love it too. :music_whistling: Attached find few pictures and maps. Later I might post the briefing for mission #13. The maps are based on DCS: BlackShark map editor screenshots and markings are based on 2007 "General tactics" guide-book of Russian army with some modifications. In communication between pilot and ground, pilot and other pilots etc. we also preserved Russian army slang. No Charlie or Bravo - keeping that to A-10C release...:smartass:
  12. We're interested to know how many people from our community are able to read the map attached. Could you describe what events took place, are happening now or will occur in the area marked. Thanks in advance. :pilotfly:
  14. As noted in Russian thread FC 2.0 is DCS:Black Shark with Shark itself cut out (it's a separate product) but with all flyable crafts from earlier FC (the textures are taken from DCS, since they are better) + improved flying model for Su-25. Very rough interpretation, so don't ask more questions.

  22. I hope the author will not suit me for translating the description and briefing for a Russian language community of this forum? :smilewink:
