LGBs work fine.. just need a ground based laser :) Or a buddy below the clouds.

Can you also map the passthrough cameras to a key on the keyboard? Or a button on the HOTAS?
-
Kinger, where do you have your single base station mounted? What if during a dogfight you look directly away from the base station (180*) like looking behind you?
-
Awesome thanks! This will save me some money then just getting the HMD and base stations. I think I’ll still get 2 stations.
-
If I buy the Index HMD with 2 base stations and NO controllers, will I still be able to set it up and use it? I have no need for controllers as I'll just be using it for DCS. This will save some money.

Coordinate a buddy lase with your wingman to stay out of MEZs if you're flying low. AF 3-3 TTPs and whatever the Navy version is are FOUO and unable to go into detail.

Thank you for sharing, Strong05. I'm having a terrible time with my Odyssey tracking. I'm in a brightly lit room too. Glad to hear about the SDE because I recall the way the Odyssey OLED panel was laid out, there was something about the way the pixels were arranged that was anti-SDE. Anyone else care to share their experiences?

I tried posting this in the big Valve Index thread, but it got buried in other comments. Anyone upgrade from the original Odyssey to the Index? I'd like to hear your take on a few comparisons: 1) Tracking 2) SDE 3) Clarity (plane spotting) 4) Panel (OLED vs LCD) and glare

Thanks sk000tch for the big write-up - very informational! And thanks to the others for your inputs as well. On the Steam site it says that they are back-ordered until 30 Sep. I'll take your advice and wait a little bit to see how it integrates with DCS and with the VR improvements. Then I'll have two things to look forward to in the fall: Index and the F-16 :)

Oh I didn’t realize it was a different method of inside out tracking. Sounds like 2 would be ok since if I look behind me, the single base station in front would lose the headset. Glad to hear that tracking is superior with the base stations.
-
I've had the original Odyssey for a while and it's been... ok... with tracking. I do all the recommended things like having a brightly lit room. Every time I dogfight looking back, it always loses tracking and pops me out of the canopy. I was looking at the HP Reverb, but someone else had reported issues with tracking too every once in a while (I didn't want to hijack his thread). I'm thinking about getting a Valve index. 1) Do HMDs with base stations track significantly better than inside-out tracking? 2) I figure 2 base stations is the requirement, but will having more around will improve the tracking? I can place a base station at 12 on top of the monitor, 2nd station at 4:30 position and 3rd at 7:30 for coverage all around regardless where I look. Thanks.

Having trouble getting mouse to work with VR
Speedywrx replied to Gun Jam's topic in Virtual Reality
Gun Jam - I had mouse issues with my Odyssey as well. I would open the game on the desktop and it would launch Steam VR and the game at the same time... sometimes it was hit or miss whether my mouse would work. So I started opening it another way and I've never had a problem since! With nothing open, I put the headset on my head, which will launch Windows MR and put you in the house. From there, you should see a desktop screen that you can double click on and you launch the game from within Windows MR. Has always worked for me. -
Are you adhering to the CAS 9-line run-in restrictions?
-
You may have meant "restrictions" are mandatory readbacks. Remarks are not mandatory. Only 4, 6, restrictions and the JTAC can also request additional readbacks.
-
This is common practice and in accordance with the JP 3-09.3 CAS manual.

I thought a diamond was unknown which was why friendlies would initially pop up as a diamond. Did not realize the “FRIEND” part was missing.

Diamond = bogey (not bandit)

GBU-12 are hard-coded on the bomb body itself (valid codes from 1511 to 1788) I can't speak specifically to the F-18, but the UFC input is to match your onboard weapons computer to what's coded on the bomb. The best implementation as AvroLanc mentioned, would be to assign a code via mission editor or armament loading screen once in the cockpit and on the ground and also have an option with the JTAC to be able to pass your code to him. Otherwise, it's not much fun flying around with everyone else on 1688 on the same target area, which is why, I'm assuming, they let you change the code in-flight. It's the same with the A-10C. Edit: A picture's worth 1000 words.

I can replicate this every time. Start with selecting an AIM-120. Then lock a target with HACQ. Switch to the AIM-9, and I can't get the seeker to slave to the radar lock. Track attached. Thank you. JHMCS AIM-9X bug.trk

Wilco - when I get back to the computer.
-
It's awesome! There is one thing I can't seem to do and hopefully others can replicate. If I have an AIM-120 selected and lock up a bandit with HACQ and after lock, I switch to the AIM-9X, I can't uncage the seeker on the radar lock. Thanks, Wags.

In the mission editor I can add as many waypoints as I want, but it will only "auto-change" a sequence of 14 of them. I'm trying to create a mission through the canyons with multiple turns (so definitely need more than just 14). Is there something I'm missing to be able to put 30+ waypoints in a sequence in "auto" on the HSI?
