[ALL MODULES][SP/CO-OP] Liberation Dynamic Campaign
Digitalvole replied to shdwp's topic in User Created Missions General
I believe if you choose Spectator, wait a second for the ai to spawn, then select your aircraft it’ll spawn you in a parking spot rather than in the middle of the deck. -
Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?
Digitalvole replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality

Yeah, it’s very annoying. Have you tried OpenXR? That works very well, though the motion smoothing isn’t quite as good as SVR. Thanks mbucchia! The memory leek sounds like the culprit. Will try this out as soon as I get the chance.

DCS Causing SteamVR Fail | Description, evidence and how to replicate
Digitalvole replied to Stal2k's topic in VR Bugs
I’ve got this problem too, out of no where. It’s seems to happen when things get demanding (ie flying low over a city with my tgp on) all of a sudden mad cpu spikes, frame rate goes down the drain, then SVR crashes but DCS is still running, cue fireball and bad language. Has anyone found a fix or did every one just jump over to OpenXR? I’d prefer to use SVR for now as the motion smoothing is a bit less aggressive. -
I thought that might be the culprit too, but I’m not. Maybe I should try the beta and see if it works better.

Alas after updating everything except DCS it still crashes. I’ve noticed just before it crashes my RAM and VRAM max out as well as the cpu spikes. It starts to go tits up as soon as some strain is put on my system. Its like DCS knows I’ve been unfaithful with il2 and it’s now punishing me.

Thank you, I will check that out. Seems likely it’s an update that’s been missed as nothing else has changed on my pc since last I used it and it worked fine. Thanks for the speedy response SoH

All of a sudden I get huge cpu spikes then Steam VR crashes. Has anyone else had this? I’m still on 2.7 and was using Open XR but thought I’d try out SVR again (less motion reprojection). Im supposed to be having a break from DCS, but I just can’t live with out it. *waves fist at ED* All was fine a couple of months ago, would the fact windows needs an update be the problem? Thanks

Alternative Thinking - chasing the VR dream
Digitalvole replied to DavidE's topic in Virtual Reality
The monitor plan sounds solid, especially with the WinWing MIP (if you fly the Hornet) But VR is pretty much unbeatable for immersion. I’ve been using VR for 6 years and I still get excited before every flight. It’s cost a bloody fortune to keep up with hardware requirements though. If/when I get a 4090 I will have crossed the line where I could have learnt to fly a real plane! Though I don’t regret it. But the above by @Dangerzone is why I’m taking a break from DCS. It’s an amazing product that has bought me a lot of happy times. But I’m now flying warbirds at 90fps with great SP content in VR and I don’t think I can come back to the performance of DCS. Also the endless wait for things to improve or get fixed is a young man’s game. I only get one life, and waiting for stuff isn’t a great use of it. I’ll be straight back when MT/Vulcan get done, and I commend ED for their vision there really is nothing like DCS. But having seen that 90fps in a flight sim is possible and amazing and despite preferring jets to warbirds (by a small margin) I don’t think I can go back anytime soon. -

So we need to wait for the footballers and “flash in the pan” pop stars to buy there’s first for ludicrous money. im just going to the bar, scotch or Irish? -

Digitalvole replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
Am I reading that wrong, or are they trying to sell them for £16k on Amazon? You can also see that OCUK had that stock 27 minutes after the guy said they didn’t know when they’d have any. Not impressed with OCUK. They might be on the receiving end of a stinky email Quick back to the beer… -

Digitalvole replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
My thoughts exactly. I must say I’m a bit annoyed at OCUK. I bought a PC from the recently that I had to send back yesterday as it was damaged in transit. So I emailed them this morning to see if they could keep it till they have a 4090 to put in there (very unlikely I know, but worth a shot). Got an email back at 10:55 saying they have no idea when they will have any more stock. At 12:20 I got a stock alert, sold out by 12:25. Did they really not know they were about to get 10x GPUs an hour and a half latter? Thats the last thing I’ll say on the matter as it’s just pointless venting. I’ve prescribed my self 2 pints of stress relief at my local pub -

Ah right, sorry. Though my gut says it’s greed that’s driving their policy’s rather than need. Fingers crossed -
Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?
Digitalvole replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
I think I’m just gonna forget about it for a bit, it’s not doing me any good checking my emails constantly. And seems pointless anyway if they sell out that quickly. Though to be fair, OCUK have been around for ages, I doubt they need this to stay afloat. Anyway it is what it is, getting cross about it won’t change anything. -
Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?
Digitalvole replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
Hmm, thought as much. Hard to say much more without using bad language. Im trying to be an early adopter, but when the initial stock sells out in under an hour, and restocks sell out in 5 mins, it’s not easy. -

Digitalvole replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
OCUK just got 10x 4090s (at 12:20 on a Wednesday afternoon) and they sold out in 5 mins (according to the guy I spoke to on the phone just now.) Am I paranoid in thinking that had to be bot wielding scalpers? I got the stock alert (been checking email every 5 mins) and buy the time I’m through to the website there gone. To add insult to injury, I’d emailed them this morning about stock and they said they had no idea when they are getting anymore. Buying a gfx card really does suck all the fun out of life haha. Sorry, bit of a vent, it’s just frustrating. -
I’m sure most of you have already seen this great documentary, but I only watched it last night. So here I am about to talk about it My big “take away” from it, and one of the many reasons why I think real life helicopter ops are so much more dangerous than the fast jets; you don’t even know you are getting shot up! I was trying one of my first night flying missions a couple of nights ago and the first point I realise I’m under fire is when I see a bunch of tracer’s fly by the window. Compare that to a jet and you usually have all sorts of things going bleep, bloop or bing to tell you things are about to head south. Meanwhile in a helicopter you don’t know until something stops working, hopefully not the tail rotor! My admiration for you guys who do this for real went up a few notches last night and there wasn’t many notches left after simply trying to fly the DCS AH64, and of course reading chickenhawk multiple times. The Longest Month is deffo worth a watch (Amazon prime) if you haven’t already.

GUN problem - Work around engage inside 2900
Digitalvole replied to joojoo's topic in Bugs and Problems
Had George engage with guns yesterday and could see no effect on the TADS. Gave it a few bursts, and for once I wasn’t falling all over the sky. I assumed I was out of range, but thought it odd George fired anyway. He says if your out of range with the hellfire doesn’t he? -
Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?
Digitalvole replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
I think that depends on the individual to a certain extent. If you play multiplayer, for example, I would totally agree. But if you play single player, maybe not so much. Still a factor ofc but not as much. As an example, I’ve been flying the Apache with the Apache Training ground mission, my cpu frame times seem pretty good most of the time (low teens) but my GPU (3090) is clearly showing the strain. Of course better cpu utilisation can’t come soon enough, but the 4090 appears to be the first gpu where graphic settings, at least, aren’t going to be a problem anymore. I hope so anyway. -

Digitalvole replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
I’m really hoping that’s what happens. Id like to imagine the average scalper doesn’t have enough intelligence to start a proper/successful business. Therefore think this is an easy sale because of last time, and then have to move house to that lovely cardboard box they saw under a bridge. -

Digitalvole replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
It’s very frustrating, one can only hope the scalpers make a massive loss and give up. But life isn’t an exercise in fairness and ofc the manufacturers are just happy to sell the cards. Sucks for us though. On the plus side it seems retailers are pretty confident it isn’t going to be like last time regarding stock levels.
