Future DCS performance ATI/Nvidea
Slippery Pete replied to 159th_Falcon's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
As much as I'd like to fly the Dora or Saber, Im not buying any new modules until EDGE is released. As I have no idea how it will run on my PC there's no point in spending money on aircraft that I might not be able to fly in it. Even now the latest versions of DCS don't give good frames for me, so it's on the back burner until the major changes come. -
If you look directly at the sun in game, it shrinks and dims. If you don't look at it, it is bright and shiny. So the key is, don't look at it, and if you do, don't look at it too long, or it will 'shrink'. Why this is modeled the way it is, I don't know.

I got a good 12-15 FPS avg loss with 1.2.8. Also with the F-15C on the ground, engines running, If I move the camera to the back and close in on the engine nozzles the FPS drops to single digits, just looking at them. This didn't happen in 1.2.7

Thankfully, ED no longer has any obligations with Ubi$oft. But that wont stop Ubi from trying to make a little cash with "sales" like this by preying on ignorant customers who don't know any better.

what joystick, HOTAS, do you use ?
Slippery Pete replied to m1tp2king's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Ch Fighterstick Pro, Saitek Throttle Quadrant (3 levers), Saitek Rudder pedals. It's great setup for helicopters/prop aircraft. Not so much for jets like the A-10C. But since we have 3 helo's and a P-51 and no DCS fighter, I think the setup is perfect for DCS at this point. -
Department of State Huey II's match ours externally.
-
That is one particular Huey with one particular cockpit. Most Huey II's still have the same basic layout we have.
-
I think we're flying a Bell Huey II, not exactly the same as the Nam era models. For aesthetic purposes, I wish we could get rid of the flare dispensers while in gunship mode, so at least we look could look more like the older versions.
-
I have a question about lights, there's a switch for the NAV lights between bright and dim. But mine are always bright regardless of switch position. The AI Hueys can have set their lights to dim though, not me. Bug? or what? Edit: Ok, I now see there two levels of brightness for the player, but AI Hueys will always have more dim nav lights than you will.
-
Is it not possible to independently get rid of the flare dispensers, but keep everything else? I'd like a gunship, but no flares on the tail.

You played BF:V? I got banned from SO many servers for being "too good" of a pilot. I was unstoppable in the MiG-17, I would fly up high where the low draw distance of the game would mask you in fog, then I'd use the hud map like a radar and just dive down on enemy bases, dropping bombs pin point style, and vertically climbing back into the fog. I'd get kill scores like 100 kills with zero deaths, and admins would see that and just assume I was cheating. Good times.:pilotfly:

With the new 1.2.7 update are rollbacks no longer possible? I tried creating a shortcut to the updater then adding "update 1.2.5xxx" like to the properties like I could before, but now it doesn't work. So when you install 1.2.7 is that it? Are you stuck with it? Because I had much better FPS with previous versions and would gladly roll back if I could, but I don't know how now.:(

Ok, I looked through the user files and found some skins with retextured gunners, found a nice German reskin and a couple of generic camies. Copied them into the default liveries to my liking. Finally no more American ACU gunners in a Luftwaffe Huey, that was driving me crazy.
-
Is it possible to retexture the door gunners? I'd like more generic uniforms, like just dark green, or a green/black camo mix that would fit better for a wider variety of countries and paint schemes. But I don't know where their textures are.

I guess you missed the latest announcement of DCS:F-15C/Su-27. Which will not be released with clickable cockpits, and will be on the same level of detail as the already flyable Su-25A...
-
Same thing with the A-10A, already has AFM, already has 6DoF, technically now it fits with the 'DCS' standard too. If the A-10A and the Su-25A were re-branded and sold as 'DCS', along with the F-15C and Su-27, that's 4 planes that could be generating more revenue for ED, potential $ from customers who do not want to buy FC:3 just for the one or two planes they want to fly.
-
I already asked about this in the update thread and didnt get an answer. I would be more than willing to pay for a stand alone Su-25A. After all it is already at the same standard that "DCS" Su-27/F-15C are being brought to. So why not liberate the Su-25A from the 'Lock On' brand as well? Please relase "DCS: Su-25A".

03 and 07 May 2013 Updates
Slippery Pete replied to element1108's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Never again will I touch an aircraft with SFM, I didnt buy FC3 for that reason. I dont mind not having click-pits, but SFM is simply too outdated at this point. As long as they dont charge a full price for FC3-AFM planes, I dont see a problem with this. It's a good move imo. In fact there's already an FC3-AFM plane that I dont have but would be willing to pay for, the Su-25A. Would it all be possible to release that individual plane as stand alone? -
As said, the swastika textures are already there, you just have to copy the texture files that have the swastika, over the ones that dont. The files being in FW-190.zip(rar), which is in DCS World/Mods/Aircrafts/FW-190D/Textures
-
How do you get NVG's in outside view like this? Can we do this already in 1.2.3.?
-
Arma tracers have HDR effects applied to them, DCS tracers don't/can't(?). So the tracer texture itself has to be made to be as bright and clear as possible. I personally couldn't stand the yellow aircraft tracers and replaced them with the crimson tracer file until better ones are made. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=104090
-
Hi all, this really isn't a 'mod', but if anyone else thinks the default yellow aircraft tracers are too dim/nearly invisible, there's an easy fix. Make a backup of your ''tracer_bullet_yellow.edm'', found in Bazar/World/Shapes. And copy and rename ''tracer_bullet_crimson.edm'', found in the same folder, to ''tracer_bullet_yellow.edm'', and let it overwrite it. IMO these red tracers, which may not be realistic for all the aircraft, are much better and brighter than the yellow tracers, which don't really do their job of being 'tracers' at all.

Battlefield Vietnam had pretty good FM's for an arcade shooter. The helos flew like you would except them to and they were quite responsive and maneuverable. Definitely the best FM of any non-flight sim I've ever played. Arma's on the other hand are pretty awful, and it's shame. No transitional lift, no rudder authority at anything other than a dead hover. Not even worth trying to be a pilot in it imo. But still I see plenty of dedicated helo pilots when playing online who think it's awesome. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

I use the quadrant too. First thing you should do is clear the "Saitek Pro Flight Quad" category in the key assignments and the axis menu. BS will automatically assign keys to whatever device is plugged in. Once everything is clear then you can assign what you need, making sure nothing is duplicated or conflicting with other assignments to other devices. If you had the throttle axis assigned to something else before you'll need to clear that too. Other than that I cant say what else you should do. Everything works fine on my quadrant, both throttles and the collective are all working on the 3 axis, and I have the landing gear assigned to the far left axis' "negative" zone, which acts like a button.

So can anyone confirm that the graphics_bs.cfg is now how you install simmod terrain? I dont want to go through the whole un-install/re-install process again, I'm sticking with 1.01 until I know the terrain can be applied to 1.02 and the sound engine issues get resolved.
