I find if I release 2 missiles less than a second apart I often get a direct hit with the 2nd one. My thinking is that they decoy the 1st one but are perhaps not aware of the 2nd. In any case I get many kills this way.

Yes that is how I use my logitech pedals - they work fine

For offline play I find pausing and unpausing fixes it temporarily. We can only hope this is high on the list of bug fixes.

GOW Chapter 2 Mission 3.2: Am I Missing Someting?
Jack57 replied to ericinexile's topic in User Created Missions General
It's OK, I checked already. About -50 in the missions I looked at. Which begs the question, do you keep losing a further 50 points each time you waste a chopper? -

Without me looking in the Editor, can you tell me if you get a negative score when the players group is taken out (even if you rcvr)? -
So what is the helicopter detecting when you get an "under attack" warning? TIA, Jack :-)

Help with dual monitor (1600x1200 x2 winXP)
Jack57 replied to Quirkitized's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So are you guys running a display profile for this? Just that, while I got it working OK it was a pain to have the menus spread across both monitors and to have to change my displays back evry time I finished playing with BS. Any solutions to that?? Cheers, Jack :pilotfly: -
GOW Chapter 2 Mission 3.2: Am I Missing Someting?
Jack57 replied to ericinexile's topic in User Created Missions General
I have had the mission success score go backwards on me enough times to suggest that the scripting perhaps wasn't fully tested. Just last night I spent well over an hour on a campaign mission only to have the mission score go from 80% to 10% after destroying another group  Times like that I open the logbook.lua with Notepad++ and adjust it accordingly :smilewink: -
What I meant was that, since I have no issues with XP it is safe to assume that I do not have faulty hardware. My guess is that Vista is having trouble communicating with some hardware, probably due to some driver issue. If it were TrackIR for example, then I would expect others to report problems also. I have a Creative Audigy 2 sound card and I find it curious how different the game sounds under Vista - could be a clue. I will do some experimenting with removing some harware items, like the sound card, and report back. Jack :pilotfly:

Campaign Georgian Oil War/Chap1/Security Guard
Jack57 replied to JaBoG32_Prinzartus's topic in User Created Missions General
I have had this happen to me numerous times but only when I quit the mission at less than 100% complete, so I just assume this is the cause with some missions. -
I have no issues running XP (I have dual boot) so that counts out hardware ;) AA effect is demonstrable - my guess is that when applied via the NVIDIA control panel some other routines/algorithms are being applied which are fudging the results. Fact remains though, there is a clear performance increase  My guess is that the bsod is resulting from a driver issue with some piece of hardware I am using. Hence my query as to whether anyone else is experiencing the same.
-
I have found my best fps gain from setting the AA to 8X or higher - sounds wrong I know, but others have the same experience. I am testing VISTA at the moment but every time I set the Affinity to both cpu's I get a bsod - anyone else experiencing this?

Even in full AP mode you will need to have control inputs until it is properly trimmed - you can't just let go of the cyclic. Even then, if you have centering springs in your joystick you will probably have to hold the cyclic in position depending on the current weight and balance of the helo and wind conditions. This is why I take the springs out my joystick - once you become accustomed to it you will never go back (this for helo flight). It is far more realistic if you don't have FF. Also, you say the hover light goes out? Sounds like you are already in auto hover and are turning it off. Hope that helps, Jack :)
-
Whether the collective will fall, rise or stay put when left unattended without any friction devices depends on the loading on the blades, including such things as the trim tabs which are set by the LAME's and not dynamically by the pilot. It is not uncommon for pilots to vacate an idling helicopter - used to do so myself when hot-refueling - and there are instances of helicopters becoming airborne when the pilot forgot the friction lock on the collective. It is probably more common however for the collective to want to fall under its own weight.

Well it seems you are indeed right! That really surprised me because in every other game I have tried turning on FSAA in the game menu it murders the frame rate. Apparently doing it thru NVIDIA Control Panel is different in some way. Now I am getting 15-25fps (sometimes 30+) so I am more than happy with that. Jack :)

I'm with you on that one - I only use auto pilot when I am targeting or occasionally in Route Mode when I want to use time compression. Without any auto pilot on it feels just like a real helicopter to fly and you will never be fighting against what the computer wants to do  As for the pedals - yes I do find them sluggish. If you watch the pedal animation in the cockpit (or the rudder in rear view) you can see the effect of your pedal inputs is very much dampened. I have no RL experience of this particular helicopter so I can't say for certain that the pedal inputs are dampened or not. Cheers, Jack :pilotfly:
-
I can't understand that you feel that way - I use the CH Pro Throttle mounted vertically on the left side on my chair and it gives a very realistic imitation of a real collective. You should know where the collective is at from the instruments and the feel of what the machine is doing - if in doubt have a glance at the pitch indicator which will tell you precisely where the collective is positioned. Cheers, Jack :)
-
So you are enabling that in the NVIDIA Control panel right?
-
PS: I made a mistake on the soundcard - my son's pc has the SB Live-Value - I have the Audigy 2
-
I am using XP and from what I have read here and elsewhere the affinity trick only works for Vista???
-
Seems to be - I don't recall things getting anywhere near this chunky during the 1st chapter though. I just found an extra 5 fps or so by setting to Full Screen - I did know that window mode gave a performance hit - not sure how it got set that way to be honest :joystick: I have SB Live-Value card so I am wondering if a better sound card might give a slight performance increase? I do notice some sound issues with BS (same as LOMAC). Thanks for all the interest

Graphics are set to medium, no AA. Changing to Low make little if any difference. This is on Win XP. Cheers.

I have the highest regard for this sim. I used to fly helicopters IRL and the realism of BS is astounding! However performance is killing some of the enjoyment for me - I am several missions into the 2nd campaign and I am getting down as low as 8fps when there is a lot going on - makes targeting a lot more difficult and reduces the immersion somewhat. I guess I am surprised given the amount of hoohaa over the extremely high system requirement for Assasins Creed - my machine runs that game easily on medium settings. Oh, my system is as follows: AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core 6000+ @ 3300GHz, 2GB Corsair DDR2, nVidia Geforce 9600 GT 1GB, ASUS M2N-SLI Mobo So does anyone else with a similar system getting similar performance? Cheers, Jack :pilotfly:

Convoy Missions (4 Mission single player set)
Jack57 replied to Ian Boys's topic in User Created Missions General
Hey Ian - great little mission quartet you've done  I really enjoyed them for the sense of realism you achieved. Not so hard to be frustrating but plenty enough to catch out the unwary :joystick: The area you chose was excellent also for NOE and terrain masking. On one mission all I heard was a loud bang and looked back to see my wingman bite the dust and some tracers chasing me as I skimmed along the valley floor and around the corner. That lone Strela on the final mission was giving me some grief so I sent my OOA wingman on a sacrificial recon - fortunately he was able to data link the location to me just before he died :devil_2: Seriously though - great job Ian. I really appreciate your efforts and look forward to your next offering. Jack
