Dynamic Foveated Rendering - Everything in one page
sopebird replied to mbucchia's topic in Virtual Reality
Thank you very much for the clue. I found this from wiki of QVFR: In the DCS World settings, you must disable 'VR' -> 'Bloom effect' and 'System' -> 'Lens Effects' as they produced poor visuals when using foveated rendering. After testing, I found it is the Lens Effects that caused this "gray box" of rendering area. Best Regards! -
Dynamic Foveated Rendering - Everything in one page
sopebird replied to mbucchia's topic in Virtual Reality
Hi folks, Anyone noticed the gray box moving around when DFR on in DCS? I think it is the rendering area. Pretty much noticeable when looking at high contrast scenes or looking toward sunlight direction. Not found in MSFS2020. I’m using Pimax Crystal with gama set to 2.0. Not sure whether this is my setting problem or a common problem. Thanks to any one who know the reason or solution! -

All the information that we provided in this post showed it is not correct as is. -
correct as-is HUD indications blockage by non-transparent textures
sopebird replied to sopebird's topic in Bugs and Problems
It's definitely not correct at all. I saw a real working HUD before. I know how HUD works. Since I have already gave a solution, why ED still chose to ignore this bug? Quite a simple fix. Kind of frustrating. But anyway, thank you Tholozor for linking the above post. -
correct as-is HUD indications blockage by non-transparent textures
sopebird replied to sopebird's topic in Bugs and Problems
No, the forward piece of a combiner will not block HUD indications. There are the high angle HUD views of other DCS aircrafts with dual combiner HUD: In reality, the forward piece of combiner will not block HUD indications at high viewing angle. You can know it through real aircraft cockpit photos and videos. I also watched real working C-17 HUD during air show. The forward combiner will not block any indications. So, it is really an annoying bug of F/A-18C module since the launch day. -
When using Track IR or VR to move your head, there will be a "non-transparent bar" that block some important HUD indications or texts. Especially when your view angle in cockpit is high. Sometimes, for example during landing, even the FPV can be blocked at a specific angle.

Missing HUD indications at high cockpit view angle
sopebird replied to sopebird's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Why moved to mod section? I reported this because modification of the HUD file that corrected HUD indications failed IC recently. So I want an official fix of this bug. It is a bug, not a mod... -
Missing HUD indications at high cockpit view angle
sopebird replied to sopebird's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
The fix I found is to change 4 parameters in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Cockpit\Scripts\Multipurpose_Display_Group\HUD_AVQ32\indicator\Pages\HUD_base : line 66: scaleCombinerPos({0, -0.0288, -0.009}), -- meters to DI change -0.0288 to -0.0144 line 117: local useBinocularFOV = true change true to false line 121: local upperRadius = DegToDI(5.44) change 5.44 to 7 line 125: local lowerRadius = DegToDI(5.86) change 5.86 to 7.5 The above modification used to not affect Integrity check(IC) in servers. But I found it did recently. Please give it an official fix. Best! -
I remember someone had reported something like this of F/A-18C hornet. When using Track IR or VR to move your head, there will be a "non-transparent bar" that block some important HUD indications or texts. Especially when your view angle in cockpit is high. Sometimes, for example during landing, even the FPV can be blocked at a specific angle. This is quite annoying and unrealistic because I know how real HUD works. The fix is actually quite simple, but the problem is that modifying the exact file (C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Cockpit\Scripts\Multipurpose_Display_Group\HUD_AVQ32\indicator\Pages\HUD_base) will fail IC in servers. ED please fix this bug since F/A-18C launched, thank you!

The AI aircraft kill FPS numerously. An empty deck is much more fluent. Suggestions: Should find a way to reduce resource usage in multiplayer mode or missions when there are many other aircraft. For example, use simple modeling or aggressive mip-map.

GR4. Retired from RAF this year. Lots of real parts available to model GR4.

Hi, I would like to customize the cockpit of harrier a little bit. But I don't know the names of cockpit textures in description.lua file. Can anyone give me a template or any hints? Thank you guys! Best

Jester call out of enemy position during dog fight is indeed not accurate, at least, not realtime. This always happen:when he finally called out the position, the enemy already passed that position. The call outs is correct only when you are steady on enemy's 6 o'clock or 12 o'clock.

[BUG] Jester Landing Callout not staying on after quitting

Same here. -
Absolutely agree with you. Imagine that you just finished hours of fight mission. You are already exhausted after focusing for so long time, a lot G pulls, several air-air refueling, even heavier. Then you still have to pay 120% attention to dangerous carrier landings, even worse in very bad weather condition or at night. Life will be easier and safer for navy pilots if their fighters are easy to fly. But come back to what we discussed here, for pure feelings of flight, Victory205 is probably right.

I just practiced several case 1 landings using DLC. I have to say it's pretty handy! This is a smart design in tomcat. DLC make tomcat a lot easier to land. I can now expect 3 wire almost every time. When tuning DLC wheels, the velocity vector will move up and down slightly, which is quite easy to control aircraft flight path during landing. If just use trim and throttle like what we do in hornet, we will need so many corrections till touch down. Power change also make velocity vector move a lot. Got this tech now! Thank you guys!

Hahaha~ Today's naval air guys will have no words to argue…

F-14B is a whole different story. Although I can get several on speed 3 wire recovery in tomcat with only 3-4 flight hours experience, I still have to struggle every time. Hornet do not need things like DLC. It performed quite well with just throttle and trim adjustment. I can easily get on speed 3 wire carrier landings almost every time.

Thank you sir! Your tutorials are the most detailed and professional ones yet. I read the two you posted. Still need some time and practice to get all you wrote. Thank you!

Thank you! Very simple words to understand the point. I think I understood the design of DLC now.

A rookie on F-14B. Still confused why we need DLC(Direct Lift Control) during final approach? The manual wrote: "DLC is used to control vertical glideslope position without pitch control inputs or engine throttle commands". But I think we can just only use pitch trim, right? Hope someone can explanate this. Thank you!

I just want to see the HUD closer, which made indications more clear. I use the same zoom level during my daily flight, not just when making video. On my 32 inch monitor, this level of zoom also give me more realistic size of what a real cockpit would be. If you have ever entered a real cockpit, you will know how big everything is. A tiny screen or a far zoom make me feel more like playing video games but not an immersive simulation.

DCS F/A-18C River Run 3:45 Hi guys, After some practice, my best record yet reached 3:45, which I'd like to share with you. It will definitely won't be the best record in the world. As you can see in my video, lots of turning and accelerating points can still be improved. I think with more practice and more tricks, it could reach around 3:30. Waiting for someone faster! But it is already fast enough to enjoy the beauty of hornet low level flight. My control of hornet improved significantly after using this instant action for practice. Regards Sopebird
