I have an unraid server at home that runs 24.7. Would be nice if there was a dcs world docker but no luck. I can launch a windows VM and run it from there. The CPU on the server is an intel 11600k with 64GB memory. My worry is that the 11600k does not have enough cores for both unraid and windows/dcs. How many cores would I need to allocate to Windows/DCS, 2? I'm trying to decide what I would want to do system wise. I've floated the idea of swapping out the cpu and motherboard to a 13th gen or upgrading my desktop and putting the 5800x3d in my desktop in there. How much crunching does the server really do? I'm on a 1gb fiber line and use a firewalla router so I could dedicate bandwidth to keep it fluid. Also how stable is the server? I'm not home half the months.

Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?
FlyingTexan replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
All the places selling them are shipping them direct from the manufacturers. So when stock drops they're all the sudden showing on Newegg, Adorama, and B&H at the same time. So just keep hitting refresh on there. B&H has some right now it's showing for pre-order and I believe they ship on the 18th or 19th. They're using it for marketing and to sell the remaining 3000 series they're sitting on. Every time you go to look for a 4090 and see it sold out you see a 3090ti for $500 less sitting there. -
I'm trying to get back into DCS world. Downloading the 2.7 open beta update from scratch at 1.5MB. This is on a 1G fiber line and while downloading from ED I did a speed test showing another 900mbps up/down roughly. Obviously something isn't right and I think it's a very big issue.

MS price politics may change for 10

I buy Windows 10 pro on ebay. You get a key sent to you within a few minutes. It's about $5 and activates and works great with Microsoft. Done it for my past 3 systems with zero issues. -
Determining Bottlenecks in Performance?
FlyingTexan replied to Lb8068's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
What motherboard do you have? The CPU is very capable of overclocking. Download Intel's Extreme Tuning software and play with it there. Just bump it up to 4.0ghz and see how it handles it. The intel software has included stress testing to show you all you'll need to know. The motherboard is important to know because you want to put the fastest memory you can. If it can support DDR3 PC2400 that would be a good upgrade. After that speed it's only marginal increases in performance. But you definitely need to look around for a better graphics card. Basically think of it like this. The CPU is a pickup truck that can haul "X" amount of dirt to a worksite. At that worksite there are guys waiting to shovel it (they're your GPU). The guys can only shovel so much so getting a faster/bigger truck to haul more in doesn't do you any good if they're already having dirt build up. The higher resolutions put a stronger load on the GPU. This means it's what becomes limiting and no matter how much faster a cpu you get you're still going to have that dirt piling up for the gpu. You should look at 16GB or more of memory and a better graphics card. Look on ebay for both. Miners are dumping parts now and I bought a GTX 1080ti that might as well have been new. Runs like a charm. -
You have any idea the cost of that? There’s plenty of audio out there floating around to clean up and use.

Compared to the GTX560TI you'll def see a big change. -
Considering Overclock for DCS 2.5
FlyingTexan replied to Exorcet's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It was a direct response to the person that started this thread about his question and overclocking his system. I didn't mention you, I didn't mention your graphics card, I didn't post anything about you because this isn't your thread now is it? So the real question, DUDE, is do you read? -

Considering Overclock for DCS 2.5
FlyingTexan replied to Exorcet's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
use intel IXT software. I pumped my 7600k to 4.5ghz with no problems. Do a google search on your processor and "overclock settings" and you'll find what voltage people use. Then use IXT to set it there then click stress test. If you have a generic fan I wouldn't do it. I have a 280mm dual fan radiator and it never gets faster. -
Need help deciding on PCI USB Card
FlyingTexan replied to Weedwacker's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Pretty much any USB 3.1 is fine. The PCI card will only use 2 of your 20 or 24 PCI-E lanes. These are chipset lanes and not the same as the GPU. You're fine to slap one in and the nvme. -
DCS Multiplayer Server Build
FlyingTexan replied to BEASTO's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So the server doesn't need a GPU? there are online server farms you can rent and some have i7 systems and a lot of memory and they go pretty cheap if you don't need a big GPU -

I’m capped at 60 lol. I don’t want to waste power on things I’ll never notice -
I5-7600k, 32GB mem, gtx 1080ti currently at stock. I’m running on a 60”/60hz 4k tv at that resolution. What are the optimal settings you’ve found?

Driver Problems [Not DCS Related]
FlyingTexan replied to aldox's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
How old is your system. There's so much code out there things can start to "system creep" where they just slow down over time. Sometimes you just need to save your important files to dropbox then format the thing and start fresh.
