  1. Others have said in the thread with the Mirage 2000 that Defender doesn't alert until the files are loaded into RAM and unencrypted. If the encryption itself was the issue then we should have been seeing false positives before and since it is ONLY RAZBAM products giving these warnings atm I will be uninstalling all RAZBAM products until @NineLine or @BIGNEWY tell us things are safe. Absolutely not, at least until ED tells me it's safe. I've gone through the nightmares of trying to rid my rig of malware before and I don't care to do it again.
  2. I'm seeing the same issue with the Harrier.
  3. I uninstalled the Harrier, restarted the game and no warning about potentially unwanted software so I reinstalled the Harrier and got the same warning again. If this is actual malware inserted into a mod... @Nineline, @Bignewy *Edit* I hesitate to upload the offending file in case it really is malware.
  4. I'm getting this warning every time I start up DCS. Do I need to be worried?
  5. I'm prepared to learn and practice. I did read Shaw's book a couple decades ago, I'll have to read it again after I read about OODA.
  6. F-105's were a bit before my time but no, I hadn't heard that story before. Bad stuff happens when you don't do things (including maintenance) by the book. If this had happened to me I probably would have insta-pooped. lol Ever hear about the F-15A that blew up over the Yukon River by Galena Alaska? Galena and King Salmon were our forward alert sites when I was stationed at Elemendorf. One day, the aircraft at King Salmon scrambled to intercept a Soviet aircraft off the coast, one of them returned to Galena with an ECS issue. Once it was fixed, the pilot asked for permission to do a high speed fly by for the troops and permission was granted. He took off, came around to do his fly by (just under Mach 1), flys straight down the runway and when he got to the end, he stood that plane on it's tail and promptly ripped both wings off as the aircraft exploded in mid-air. This incident was totally preventable. The pilot didn't set up the armament panel correctly, he forgot to dial in his wing tanks so the OWS system didn't warn him of the impending over G. He drowned in the cockpit because he didn't arm his ejection seat and even if he had, the ejection would have likely killed him because he didn't buckle his chest strap. They used this event to pound into us the importance of ALWAYS following checklists, no matter how many times you've performed the task. This tactic was as effective as it was crude.
  7. I got these downloaded, I've been running behind irl and I'm catching up today.
  8. Not every pilot put his helmet on immediately. Most of them did, but some didn't. Bolded part. Red Flag twice with F-15's from the 21st TFW. Sortie surge? Yeah, plenty of times. Seymour Johnson we had 104 F-4E's and every squadron (4 of them) ran surge operations at least twice a month, once for the entire wing and once for each squadron. If your performance wasn't up to par then you got to run surge ops even more. (During our surge ops we sent 4 aircraft at a time on their missions and takeoffs were staggered throughout the day.) At Elmendorf we only had 1 fighter squadron when I was there so we didn't do surge ops as often. Something I noticed as a weapons mechanic is that the jet engine noise (and -60's) didn't affect your hearing unless you were on the same parking spot or right next door but even then, if there was an aircraft between you and the offending engines you could still communicate in normal voices. Ever been on the ramp during an Elephant Walk? I have, 104 F-4E's participated in that one. That's a noisy ramp. I enjoy swapping war stories. Getting to hear your perspective on the noise levels of the ramp is interesting. They had fuel bowsers on the flight line because of that very issue. lol
  9. First, thanks for the Tacview, I've seen it a couple times and will watch it a few more as well. If you're open to suggestions then one I'd make is to either A) use voice to narrate what you're doing or B) use text more often to describe what/why you're doing what you're doing. Second, in regards to the part of your post I snipped. That's how I flew in AirWarrior, Aces High, and some game by Microsoft that I forget it's name now. In AirWarrior I beat an 8 on 1, Aces High a 5 on 1 but I couldn't begin to tell you how I did it. I just flew while trying to solve those immediate problems even if I never consciously chose to do so. I simply reacted to what was going on around me. I can say that in the 8-1 I had an altitude advantage and my opponents never managed to take that from me. In the 5 on 1, those dweebs had EVERY advantage you can think of, speed, altitude, numbers, climb rate, acceleration, blah blah blah. I was flying the slowest aircraft in the planeset, (Hurrcane Mk IIC) and off the top of my head they had a D-9, Spit 9, 109-F4 and two others. Here in DCS? This is a whole new ball game and while this challenge seems like trying to climb Mount Everest with no shoes, I believe I can meet that challenge, sooner or later. Third, the rest of your post? That's exactly the sort of thing I was hoping to see when I opened this thread, even if I don't understand all of it just yet. Thank you.
  10. Sort of. I can't tell where the bandit is prior to you sliding in on his 6, a Tacview file would be most excellent to see what exactly you did there. After watching the video several more times, I do see the MiG twice prior to my previous statement but lose track quickly, the first time was when you looked down into the cockpit. When you looked back up I could no longer see the bandit. (YouTube compression is likely at fault.) Still, a Tacview file would be most helpful.
  11. @=475FG= Dawger what I mean by showing us isn't just a 30 second YouTube clip of a maneuver, talk us through it, use Tacview analysis etc. I don't know your skill level in editing videos but mine is probably worse heh. That said, I use Shotcut (because it's free) and can link you some tutorials for that app if need be, just let me know.
  12. I was hoping this thread would get filled with all kinds of nuggets from people that know more than I do. I was hoping I'd see links to videos, documents, books, etc that I may or may not discover on my own. I guess I was hoping for a treasure trove of information shared by like minded people. I'll keep checking to see if things change.
  13. This thread is about how to win using BFM so why don't you show us how it's done?
  14. Thanks, I really appreciate the response.
  15. Just curious, did you guys model random leaks of various fluids? One of the REALLY nice things about the Eagle is that it rarely leaked fluids on you and if it did, it was soon fixed. It seemed like the Phantom was always leaking something or other. It would kinda seem wrong in a way if the Phantom didn't leak on us.
  16. I'm not sure what that is? I know what thrust is, but what about the rest? It's my understanding that you can't search for various Discords in order to find them, instead you need a link. Could you provide one please?
  17. I worked out on the flightline on F-4E's and F-15A and B's.
  18. I watched aircrews talk to crew chiefs (and vice versa) under those very conditions many times. You never have a ramp full of running jets and -60's. Well, one time I saw an elephant walk with 104 Phantoms. That was pretty neat, but it was just one time.
  19. I found this: It would be more accurate to say "a user-selectable rate of fire of 4000 or 6000 rounds per minute." Your only options in the real thing are 4000 or 6000 rpm, high and low, nothing in between. This is on the first page about the gun. I also noticed you forgot to capitalize the first letter of the first sentence in the "Introduction".
  20. In reality that crew chief is 10 feet from the aircrew (roughly) and with no external power or engines running if the pilot can't hear his crew chief then he needs to visit the flight surgeon for a hearing test.
  21. All I need from the controls indicator is "what are my controls doing right now" (my joystick input), how do I get that and only that? The orange/red diamond? I don't even know what most of that stuff is for crying out loud.
  22. I haven't noticed that.
  23. Move your throttle just a bit and your engines will power up. I've noticed that when starting an instant action mission my engines will be at idle regardless of their actual physical position.
