Why? Not everyone wants to learn a study sim or even has the time to do so. And for many jumping straight to a study sim is a very daunting hill to climb, it can be very overwhelming for many. Best to start easy and work your way up if that's what you desire.

I'd rather get something new that we don't already have than get a full fidelity version of something we have now.

You just smoked all my hopeium.

F-4E's had some sort of IFF system, at least the ones at Seymour Johnson did. During an ORI (Operational Readiness Inspection) while I was there an inspector would stand close to the EOR operations (End of Runway) for takeoffs looking through a box thingie. What he was looking for was an IFF signal that aircrews were supposed to have turned on before taxiing. I have no idea how that black box the inspector looked through worked I just know what I was told.

That's right, my bad.

That would be nice of @IronMike wouldn't it? Now that we've both lit the bat signal for IronMike maybe he'll drop by and give us the lowdown on this.

Pre-orders let me throw my money at them sooner.

The Tomcat and Supercarrier are Heatblur products and both were offered on preorders. So maybe it will be a preorder, maybe not.

If you are lining up a gun solution there comes a point where you have to give your target 100% of your focus. I've been practing the F-5 vs 2 MiG-21 Ace level opponents lately and I kept losing because I was taking bad missile shots and then trying to line up gun kills and the 2nd MiG would bag me every time. So I stopped taking bad missile shots.

Usually such things are abbreviated as CBU and when the OP called them Cbus it threw me off. Also SUU-30.

It's interesting how you said you have support from others but I don't see any of your posts in this thread getting upvoted but others are. You've gone from insisting on historical facts (while calling the -E slow and sluggish, something I found hilarious because it's not) to simply "giving your opinions". Opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one and they all stink. As others have pointed out, Heatblur has stated they will be doing a separate module for naval variants. When is that going to happen? Well it will probably be a while so patience is in order. You've discounted other countries success with the -E, even unmodified -E's success has been discounted by you. Apparently you think only U.S. service counts but that seems narrow minded to me. While stating the Phantom was designed as a naval fighter (you're not wrong about that) you completely ignore the fact that far more -C, -D, and -E models were made for the U.S. and other countries than naval variants. Only one other country used a naval variant while 10 countries used land based versions and 4 still do. With these things in mind it makes sense for a land based version to be made first. We should smoke a joint and talk about this. Why? Because it's super hard to act like an angry stinky butthole while high on weed. Real conversations could be had then. Personally, I'm ecstatic over the upcoming F-4E because I worked on it but... I still want naval variants because as a kid I was enthralled with stories of U.S. carrier fighter pile-its. I can't wait to bomb the VC and NVA with the -E or to fly escort for naval strike missions that are going Down Town. Just a suggestion, what if you went back through this thread and read every one of your posts and try to put yourself in others shoes so you can see how you're coming across? Sometimes these types of exercises can give us new perspective. Regardless of whether or not you think that is worthy of your time, I hope you have a great day. -

It's not far from the truth. While prepping for an exercise we would get 12 primary aircraft loaded/gassed and every other air worthy airframe would be a spare. On Monday morning we'd have 12 primaries and sometimes 12 or 13 spares. We'd fly 12 x 5 sorties each day and by Friday we were struggling to keep 12 primaries and 1 or 2 spares ready. -

And not everyone is going to be supportive of a Naval Phantom. There was no more prolific version of the Phantom than the E model with 1370 units built and no other variant even comes close to that number. F-4B 649 F-4C 583 F-4D 825 F-4E 1370 F-4J 522 F-4N/S variants were not new builds but instead upgraded versions of the B/J models. All of the naval variants built (new builds only) don't equal the numbers of F-4E's built. Others have shown (in this thread or another one) how the F-4E with leading edge slats had better instantaneous and sustained turn rates than naval variants. It was a bit slower but not by much. Someone else showed that the Israeli Phantoms had a very impressive A2A score in the 1970 and 1973 conflicts before the IDF modified them. Heck, some of their Phantoms were replacement aircraft during the Yom Kippur war that came directly from USAF inventory. -

Indeed. I don't even care which one it is. That said, I have to say I'm happier than the proverbial pig in poo that we're getting a pair of E models. -
I made that pic my wallpaper.
