  1. Just to be clear, you are using the mic switch and NOT the "\" key, right? If you are on realistic radios, you should not touch the "\" key.
  2. In order to even the playing field between western and eastern armored forces in a manner that was at least somewhat realistic, several months ago I did some work on a active protection system Lua script. I call it LAPS (Lua Active Protection System). Using a small explosive detonation, it destroys incoming ATGMs that are calculated to be on an impact course with a protected vehicle once they get within a certain kill radius (like 20 meters). There are some problems though, in realism and implementation: US Army does not yet field an APS. Oh we could just use Trophy, but then we'd be giving money to an foreign defense contractor. It's more important to keep our domestic defense contractors well fed and happy than it is to keep our troops safe and alive. There are supposedly some domestic active protection systems that are near completion. God only knows when they could finally deploy them, 2020? :no_sad: Second problem is, due to current limitations in the scripting engine, it cannot intercept HEAT rounds or RPGs. The third problem is that I never developed it past the proof of concept stage, so against weapon types that it can intercept (missiles), it has infinite ammo, full hemispherical coverage, and 100% effectiveness. Literally, a vehicle is invulnerable against all types of ATGMs when you have LAPS activated on it. Obviously, I would need to make it more realistic before I release it. That wouldn't be too hard- just implement like a 90% probability of intercept, a limited rate of fire, coverage areas, limited ammo.
  3. Yes, see here: http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/Simulator_Scripting_Engine/DCS:_World_1.2.1/Part_1#coord Mist version 2.0 will hopefully be out in a few days, it will include various coordinate display scripts.
  4. Don't use IS USER, use the Lua expression start/stop condition. Hell, the Lua expression start/stop condition has been in the game since A-10C beta 1. It works just like the new Lua expression trigger condition. Do your logic (if there is any), and just use return <value> Where <value> is a Lua value. If this Lua value is false or nil, it will evaluate to logical false; otherwise, it will evaluate to logical true. See here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1688844&postcount=7 for examples of me using the Lua expression trigger condition- which like I said, works just like the Lua expression start/stop condition.
  5. Well, from watching FW 190 gun cam videos, it is quite obvious that the tracer color was white :D
  6. A slightly different story here- http://www.ww2aircraft.net/forum/weapons-systems-tech/mg-151-20-tracers-30212.html Gotta love how a guy says, "according to different sources..." and then NEVER tells what his sources are. I guess a lot of people don't understand how absolutely critical citing your sources is...
  7. Yea, he was a really stand-up guy too. I hope he's doing alright. Well, on the bright side, without him around, and with Viper retiring from moderating, there are much fewer people that can stop us from taking over the forums... now is the time to make our moves :D
  8. Actually, I DO hope it hits Mars, I believe the scientific benefits probably outweigh the loss of Opportunity and the potential loss of Curiosity. We would learn a tremendous amount about large terrestrial planet impacts, the Martian atmosphere, the viability of certain terraforming techniques, etc. Comet Shoemaker Levy 9 was cool but it wouldn't even hold a candle to what we would learn from a large impact with Mars. I would think that Curiosity would be most in danger of being overheated from the combined heat of all the little pieces of Martian crust re-entering the atmosphere after being kicked up into suborbital trajectories. If it survived that, it would probably be fine... unlike Opportunity and the dinosaurs, it's nuclear powered :)
  9. Screw the comets, the southern hemisphere just has a vastly better sky, period.
  10. That WAS an epic landing. You need to work on your target fixation problem though :P Technically though, we DO know that F-15s should be able to land without wings, since we have that example of the one-winged Israeli F-15 landing that has been linked to death on these forums since like, forever.
  11. http://www.space.com/20045-comet-hit-mars-2014.html TLDR- possible impact of a large comet on Mars in Oct. 2014; only a slight chance, but no matter what, it's gonna be close. Most likely, an impact will be ruled out in a few weeks. Our Martian spacecraft and rovers should get some nice pictures, at least. There's a high probability that Mars will pass deep inside the comet's coma. Maybe Curiosity will be able to capture the meteor storm that should result from this on video :) Just feel lucky it isn't heading for Earth- and consider, Earth is an easier target to hit than Mars. The comet is probably large enough to destroy human civilization, and there would be nothing we could do to stop it. Preventing cometary impacts is a lot harder than preventing asteroid impacts. It seems to be a busy time for comets, if you're in the southern hemisphere, you should step outside, you might get to see something like this: The comet at the bottom of the image, comet PANSTARRS, is rounding the Sun and should become visible to northern hemisphere observers in a few days, see here: http://www.space.com/20059-comet-pan-starrs-explained-infographic.html In November of this year, comet ISON is expected to become extremely bright, possibly brighter than the full moon and visible in the daytime.
  12. Ah, well then, at least there is that. I assume then, although not stated, you are not officially sharing the missions because you want to have a competitive edge over other public servers? Or is it that you are afraid that people will modify them, and you don't like that? If its the former, I understand your thinking, but I still think it's better to make high quality missions available for all. That way, you enrich the DCS community with more content. By enriching the DCS community with more content, you give people more reason to want to click on the DCS icon instead of whatever alternatives they might have had in mind instead. In the end, you get a higher number of players across all servers. If it's the latter, I can't say I really understand this thinking. But hey, it's up to you... your mission will be enjoyed much less than if it was easily available, but at least some people are still able to play it. And if someone really wants it that badly, they can always join the server, leave, unzip the track, delete the extra folders, and rezip it as a .miz.
  13. Hopefully soon. I've been tied up with multiple different DCS projects, plus what I have to do for work. I will be trying to focus on Mist in the coming days and get what I need to get completed done.
  14. The problem is probably in your DX settings if you were messing around with them. If repair doesn't help you, I don't see how reinstalling would. You could perhaps try renaming your Saved Games/DCS folder to wipe your settings, but that probably won't help. There shouldn't be any setting that causes what you show to happen- but maybe, some sort of graphics algorithm is messed up and when you wipe your settings, you will turn that setting off. I know very little about graphics, but that does seem to be some sort of rendering problem. Some things are rendering just fine, while other things are not. Another possibility is that maybe your video card is starting to die, but if so, I would think you would see graphics anomalies elsewhere too.
  15. Ok Maior, I think this answers the confusion. I spent 2 minutes and googled it: It is pulsars that they are contemplating the creation of a GPS network out of (all the discussion I found though, was for getting the exact positions of spacecraft): http://www.forbes.com/sites/johnfarrell/2012/04/02/pulsars-could-support-an-interstellar-gps/ However, Quasars are being considered as a potential method to get the orientation of GPS satellites: http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/news/topstory/2009/icrf2.html
  16. Quasars do not vary significantly in brightness, except for some that are variable on time scales approaching weeks and months. GPS works by comparing the relative arrival times of several pulsed signals. Can you explain how it is possible to create a GPS system with signals that do not pulse then? It seems to me, the best you could do is create an INS with Quasars, similar to stellar INS that the SR-71 used.
  17. It was Kopitnari airport they bombed- three or four of them bombed it (forget which). We refer to Kopitnari airport in game as "Kutaisi" usually. To be fair, the only aircraft the Tu-22s had to potentially face off against when bombing Kopitnari airport in 2008 were Georgian Su-25As. They did not have to worry about ANY fighter aircraft, as the Georgian air force does not have any. Things would be different if they had to face Su-27s, MiG-29s, F-15s, etc. I can't imagine that Russia would send its valuable Tu-22 bombers into contested airspace without an escort...
  18. How will anyone appreciate the amount of time and work that went into a mission if it is not public? Sorry, I just don't comprehend your train of thought. It's your mission to do with as you please though :)
  19. Finally, good news for the US public education system: Report: Chinese Third-Graders Falling Behind U.S. High School Students in Math, Science
  20. arteedecco, Those are "enumerators"- although what I don't see where Saint defined what enumerators are. Also, those numbers could change, that's part of the reason for using this structure. Also note that, the quoted country.id table is not actual Lua. If you were to treat it as Lua, technically, what it says is this: country.id[1] = RUSSIA, where RUSSIA would have to be a variable name. So it's clear to me that you should not interpret the table as this: country.id = { [1] = "Russia", [2] = "USA", etc... } However, I agree, what the correct interpretation should be is a little murky. I'll see if I can fix it, but it might take a while for my fixes to trickle down.
  21. Yes, already ahead of you in that regards in version 7. The default server MOTD in version 7 has a listing of all the commands, and there is also a help menu accessed with "-help". Also, I've put in a lot of hours on the manual. I still have a ways to go on it though - the new additions to the manual will probably add 10-15 pages... the final version of the Slmod v7 manual will probably be like 60 pages
  22. I need to see dcs.log to get an idea what your issues could be. It will probably tell me straight-up what the problem is. Also, there is a thread floating around somewhere about how to make Servman work correctly. Check either the multiplayer section or the multiplayer server administration section.
  23. Not officially, but there are undocumented functions in the scripting engine that might or might not work. To see them, use Mist to do a _G dump. Anyway, there used to be a Unit.destroy function, and I think it is still in there. It basically did what you wanted- removed a unit without any fanfare or messages or anything. HOWEVER.... Keep in mind that, as it is an undocumented function (you only tell it exists by doing a _G dump), it might not work correctly and is liable to be changed or removed at any time! ED is in no obligation to support it, and you can't blame them if you use it in a mission and the next patch breaks it. Also, over a year ago, I was trying to use Unit.destroy in Slmod to attempt to make restricted aircraft slots- turned out, Unit.destroy did not work correctly in multiplayer. I can't remember the full details though. I think it might fine if you were only going to make a single player mission though. So basically: Yes, but it's undocumented, unsupported, probably only works for single player/host, could be removed at any time, could cause CTDs, etc. Use it at your own risk! Anyway, IMO, for now at least, just use GROUP DEACTIVATE if at all possible.
  24. As everyone else said, it appears to be a false positive. Not a real virus. If this is the very first time you've ever had that happen, well, you've probably had false positives before too any just not realized it. I've seen a lot of them. The very first one I ever experienced was with Longbow 2. I was like "Oh no! lb2.exe is a virus! Quarantine and delete that crap!" 10 minutes later... "hey, why won't Longbow 2 start?" It seems to me that you have two choices: 1) Ignore the Avira reports when they are related to DCS, and get to enjoy playing DCS again. 2) Never again play DCS because Avira is falsely reporting it as a virus.
  25. I'd like to see me.log- until then, it's hard to speculate about what the problem really is. me.log would quite likely say exactly what the problem is. So please, upload me.log right after experiencing this problem. Also, if the problem file can be identified, could you please upload it here? The best way to get the bug fixed is to give us the file- then we can hopefully reproduce the bug, and send it on to the developers... then next patch (or maybe even sooner) the problem can be fixed. Furthermore since the ME is programmed in Lua, it would probably be possible to fix the bug in a simple Lua mod, rather than have to wait for the next patch.
