ok...i have to revert my previous comment about the crashes probably being connected with the water set to high graphic setting...today even with flying on water set to medium, i still get crashes...i have to add, that these were not "normal" crashes to desktop, but actually lead my pc to completely lock up...ill have a look now whether any files were created at all EDIT: where exactly should i find that dxdiag file?
-
i tried to have a closer look...but without having a direct comparison screenshot or anything, its hard to judge if they changed anything on the 3d model...what i assume what they meant with "improvements to their cockpits and external models" is not actual the 3d model, but also new reflective textures making use of the new render techniques. the canopies do look really good now from outside views especially in low sunglight conditions.
-
i guess those improvements were only meant for the cockpit textures.

109 sounds and other so called improvements
birdstrike replied to birdstrike's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
do that. no problem with that.but as you are an experienced dcs pilot, even better would be to take a few flying lessons in high powered tail draggers and then judge for yourself, if you have the chance to. i know Nick Grey is a professional pilot with incredible experience on various types irl. what i do doubt though, is that he has even half the flying hours of for example yourself in dcs. it can be tricky for very experienced rl pilots to then start with computer games trying to simulate it. of course he is right when saying that you lose the feeling of flight because a pc game is still a visual thing only. but, with experience, you begin to "feel" due to those visual cues. after enough hours, you begin to "feel" the onset of a stall even without a ffb stick, although literally you cant feel anything....you know that. i somehow doubt that Nick Grey spent that much time in the warbirds in dcs. i might be wrong about that and maybe he logged several hundreds of hours in the dcs spit etc...i just cant imagine that, and i for myself know, that for me personally its a bigger challenge in real life even though it became second nature. and back to the sounds. nobody says its easy to produce realistic sounds. i am not even questioning the overall tune of the new sound....but when i completely lose the sensation of being able to know at which rpm my engine is running currently only by listening, from one patch to the other, then for me thats a considerable step backwards. you say, at the very first beta version of the 109, the dcs sound engine was more limited...i say i liked the sounds back then more...not because im of the opinion that back than it sounded more like a DB engine than it does now, but because back then, the sounds gave the engine a "life". you could hear it breathing. you knew whether you are at 2800rpm or at 2600rpm only by listening to the engine. this is all gone now. -

all fine with that...make it optional then and let the guys who want the realistic ground physics still have it...but dont force it on us. and imo, even with the "harder" ground physics, landings and takeoffs in dcs were easier than irl. -

Fenrir..... wall of text and taking the merlin and spit as an example while in the 109 forum? and ending with insults while not even reading what i was saying. its you who is ignorant. i dont even need real world recordings...what i do expect though, is to be able to hear differences between 2000 and 2900rpm other than a slight volume increase. -
[REPORTED] stick going through front panel
birdstrike replied to razo+r's topic in Bugs and Problems
? where did you read that? -
my crashes seem to be connected with the water set to high...cannot say for 100%, but as long as i have it set to medium, i didnt experience a crash yet...setting it back to high, gives the flicker problem and crashes.

i agree, the tires have too little friction. i dont agree that this looks "better", or in anyway convinceable. look at 1.5 videos of the 109...they had it almost spot on before, and then changed it to be beginner friendly. which makes no sense whatsoever, as there are already features like "autorudder" and "take off assistance" suiting to beginners who had problems with the original ground physics. -

birdstrike replied to birdstrike's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
no changes in 2.5.4 but a couple of patches ago...since then this is what we have: -
yeah thats my impression as well.
-
even if it wasnt broken, for now that feature is useless, as its just stating that a plane was damaged. but it doesnt tell what parts of the aircraft are damaged..also, it seems to put out that message everytime a single bullet hits, so that if you hit your oponent with a 1second burst, you see the same message like 10times covering half of your screen.

birdstrike replied to birdstrike's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
good for u  well, then re-read my opening post and compare with your installation...or even better, also try the previous 2.5.3 for comparison, and tell me in which installation the different rpm settings are more audible. for me with 2.5.4 the 109 now sounds pretty close to this at either 2500 or 2900rpm: while i could notice differences with the first open beta version when the plane was released, of about 50rpm, now i can hardly tell the differences of 400rpm anymore. -

2days ago you said that you dont even own the module currently...so whazzup? -
are you guys talking about the new 2.5.4 bug, where you have split seconds "black screens" mainly on a single eye, which feel like you were blinking with your eyes? EDIT: ok, yes after reading the thread more carefully...yes i got the same issue...will test now with water set to medium.... EDIT: yes, setting water to medium does indeed fix the issue....but god water set to medium looks ugly. ED fix it please quickly.

Mouse pointer and head movement in VR
birdstrike replied to VR FlightSim's topic in DCS Core Wish List
are u sure? i have not flown with trackir since i have the rift but i could have sworn that headmovement with trackir also keeps moving the mouse...anyway, in VR i dont like it at all...and it actually became one of my most anticipated features i would like to see for vr. -
waoh...even if it doesnt crash...those split second black screens are horrible...flew tonight with two friends who both have the same problem....i fly with the rift, and so does one of my friends, the other one flies with trackir and monitor...all 3 of us have these "black screens"...dont know how its on a monitor, but in the rift its an utter annoyance...its like you are blinking with your eyes, when you are not....seems to be worse when you change your view point.... worst patch in a long time by far. EDIT: found another thread, which found the cause for the blinking screen....setting water from HIGH to MEDIUM fixes the issue as a workaround for now. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=227420

Mouse pointer and head movement in VR
birdstrike replied to VR FlightSim's topic in DCS Core Wish List
in trackir somehow i could live with this...in vr now, i really exprience it as an annoyance. yeah imo, the mouse pointer should not be linked to the headmovement at all.... -
funnily the only crash file it created is this: " # -------------- 20181220-220617 -------------- D:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\edCore.dll # C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at 38695B44 00:00000000 SymInit: Symbol-SearchPath: '.', symOptions: 534, UserName: 'notyourbusiness' OS-Version: 10.0.17134 () 0x100-0x1 0x00007FFD38695B44 (edCore): mmfMemoryBlockPreload + 0x34 0x00007FFD2C8AC9C2 (edterrain4): (function-name not available) + 0x0 0x00007FFD2CA93AE3 (edterrain4): (function-name not available) + 0x0 0x00007FFD2C63432A (edterrainGraphics41): edtg41::TerrainRenderable::dump + 0x57D8A 0x00007FFD2C634393 (edterrainGraphics41): edtg41::TerrainRenderable::dump + 0x57DF3 0x00007FFD2C634393 (edterrainGraphics41): edtg41::TerrainRenderable::dump + 0x57DF3 0x00007FFD2C634393 (edterrainGraphics41): edtg41::TerrainRenderable::dump + 0x57DF3 0x00007FFD2C634393 (edterrainGraphics41): edtg41::TerrainRenderable::dump + 0x57DF3 0x00007FFD2C634393 (edterrainGraphics41): edtg41::TerrainRenderable::dump + 0x57DF3 0x00007FFD2C634393 (edterrainGraphics41): edtg41::TerrainRenderable::dump + 0x57DF3 0x00007FFD2C633100 (edterrainGraphics41): edtg41::TerrainRenderable::dump + 0x56B60 0x00007FFD38685149 (edCore): ed::thread::hardware_concurrency + 0x2099 0x00007FFD38682BAB (edCore): ed::StringsCacheFast::clear + 0x212B 0x00007FFD6E97C4CE (ucrtbase): o_ceil + 0x4E 0x00007FFD714F3034 (KERNEL32): BaseThreadInitThunk + 0x14 0x00007FFD724B3691 (ntdll): RtlUserThreadStart + 0x21 "

i run vanilla...no mods installed at all...specs should be sufficient....4790k@4.2Ghz, 32GB ram, gtx1080, win10 pro. no stability problems with previous patch...now unplayable. i deleted the fxo folder+ the metashaders folder...horrible patch overall for me

109 sounds and other so called improvements
birdstrike replied to birdstrike's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
yeah, their "improvements" to the 109 became quite frustrating over the last few months. -
well...dont even know where to begin with...crashes over crashes while the previous 2.5.3 ran quite stable. i have black flashes of a split second pretty regularly now. and within the few hours of playing 2.5.4 i had 3 complete lockups of my pc, where nothing not even taskmanager worked anymore and a dozen normal crashes to desktop...besides, i have screenlocks, and when the game finally continues, i have to alt-tab cause otherwise it doesnt recognize my control inputs anymore. also, overall performance dropped again significantly...horrible patch for me.

well...even at the very early stage of the first beta version of the 109, the devs claimed, that their sounds are as close as it can get, as they use recordings of the real thing....now meantime, the engine sound of the 109 changed probably like 5times already, and has hardly anything in common anymore with the original sounds...so what is it? was the sound of the open beta the real deal, or is the current one the one which they consider to be close to real life:music_whistling: normally im not too much into the sound aspect of a flight sim. so im not arguing much about whether this or that is closer to the real 109....BUT...with every single patch that adressed the sounds of the 109, the different engine revolutions became less and less audible. im flying piston engines every day in real life, and even with the headset on, besides all the noise, different rpm settings are very much audible, especially if you are used to a certain type of aircraft. in the dcs 109, this became harder and harder up to the point with 2.5.4, where there is actually not any difference anymore between lets say 2500 and 2900 rpm except the overall noise. for me personally clearly great steps backwards.... now the sounds are one thing, but while the devs obviously put some work into the cockpit textures, while there are apparent bugs that are reported SINCE ITS RELEASE and have not even been acknowledged up to this very day, im afraid not even the new cockpit is an improvement in my eyes. the opposite tbh. and then there are the new ground physics, which are maybe more noob friendly, but not more realstic...im starting to ask myself, if dcs still has the same focus they promised when i actually purchased that module....realism. :)
-
ok...after i tried out the new cockpit....im definitely of the opinion that the old one looked much better tbh. for me this patch is no improvement.

this is a test that will only reveal the poor AI tactics... usually the better turning plane will slaughter the other one...so i can already predict, that the spit will win pretty much everytime as long as you set them to same skill levels.
