Upgrading from i5 2500K. Advice please?
Dachs replied to Corrigan's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've been wondering if an upgrade is worth it now for some time too.. I ended up upgrading my GFX instead, going from a HD7970 3GB to a Sapphire R9 390 Nitro 8GB, and keeping the i5 2500K @ 4.4Ghz for now. The R9 gave my FPS a real nice boost, and with FPS capped at 40, DCS is now running very smooth and stable. Oh, and thats with a res of 5910x1080. But anyway, I guess I'm still wondering about that CPU upgrade, hm.. -
After a bit more testing..: When using default 1 Screen profile: NVG's in the A10C only show one instance KA50 NVG's are back to normal (assuming the Russian NVG are supposed to be black&white?) Using default 3Cameras profile: Problems are as pictured in my first post. Edit: could it perhaps be the bug that caused the white background on instrument exports, that's not quite gone yet? I discovered that the Ekran export has a white background, and so does the ABRIS when dimming the display, but only happens when NVG's are activated! A common error for both monitor profiles, is that they make the NVG appear elliptical or streched. A pretty old bug I think, and one I believe there's a mod for correcting somewhere, but thats for some other time.

Seems there is still a couple of bugs with multimonitor.. All is using the 3Cameras.lua in monitor setup This scene in the KA50: looks like this, when putting on NVG's. The 2 side screens goes completely white and I get a whitish NVG on the center screen. A10C: I get three NVG's, one on each screen, much like the KA50 HMS a couple of versions back..

I have had some problems with profiles having a number in their name. That is, not the file name, but the name given inside the file, meant to show up in the options screen. After changing that to a letter instead, it showed up fine. It may be just a fluke, but worth a try maybe?

Using three 42" screens and a total FOV of around 155 degrees, it seems perfectly natural to me. This also means my virtual cockpit on the screen is very close to real size, almost 1:1 with that FOV So, in short, DCS has the ability to look real, but it needs proper hardware to do it.

I run it with 3 seperate screens/viewports + a fourth for Helios and exports, no problems, so it can be done.. I have however seen the scrunched (is that a word? :P ) view in top of the screen, while fiddling around with my monitor config.lua, but why it happens I don't know. I just took a step back, and tried it another way, until it worked. Not much help, I know..

After updating to 1.5.1.47285 this is now resolved, well, it is for me at least :)

one TARGET SCRIPT FOR all A/C & switch STATES
Dachs replied to Gizzy's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Ouh, might be just what I was looking for!! I never became good friends with Target (pretty much dumped it in frustration) but this sounds promising, and pretty straightforward to use. Will check it out and report back! -
I'm wondering, are your products going to be able to export instruments, gauges and screens/sights to another monitor, like the A10C and Blackshark can? That will most likely be a deciding factor in my decision to buy or not, as I have a hard time flying anything that can not do this. Flying BS2 and A10C with Helios, using Loz's and Zeen's profiles with fully exported instrument suites, kind of spoils you that way :) The Huey pretty much sits unused in a dark corner of the hangar, because of this.. Anyway, the Gazelle sure looks good so far :)

Tri monitors or 48" Curved TV
Dachs replied to Cowboy10uk's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Like some of the others, I'm pretty sure you will miss the wide horizontal FOV you have now, with your current setup! I'm contemplating buying the Rift when the consumer version comes out, but I'm pretty worried about feeling confined in its relatively narrow FOV.. Triple screen gaming really spoils you I guess. -
My guess would be that 1.5.1.46722 can't see 1.5.1.47025 servers? I rolled back to 46722 as well, I haven't tried multiplayer though, so it's just a guess..

Running 3 screen eyefinity with a 4th monitor placed to the right (not physically, but in windows driver) Eyefinity res. with bezel compensation 5912x1080 4th monitor 1920x1080 Combined res. 7832x1080 I also tried disabling the 4th monitor and running "3 screen" with pure eyefinity 5912x1080, but still no luck. Strange if it's a monitor setup issue, as it was running perfectly before the latest update. Also the default "3 screen" profile won't run anymore now.

Right, checked and did all of the above, but the sim still crashed when entering a mission. However, I found something that might help narrow it down a bit.. Using default monitor profile "1 screen" game will run using res. of 5912x1080 and 7832x1080 Using default monitor profile "3 screen" game will crash using res. of 5912x1080 or 7832x1080 This is with no mods, customized files or external apps running!

Another crash here, happens when i try to start a mission, just when the loading bar is almost finished. Logs attached. Logs.zip

Yes it does, I'm using it for BS2 with Cap Zeen's profile and export.lua.

You can save your view with RALT + NUM0 after adjusting FOV. Just remember, it saves the last activated view so make sure to hit NUM5 first, to select center cockpit view.
-
You need to narrow down your Field of View (FOV) using numpad / and * to get the right view. This will bring you closer to the instrument panel, and put the wings back in their place. Of course then you will have to use trackir and look down to see your instruments.

It's the same thing with NVG's, at least in the A10C, getting one NVG instance on each screen, when running 3screen profile. Oh, and and the NVG view is still elliptical..

Alright, guess there's no reason to mess around with a good stable setup just yet then. We'll see if the 79xx are outdated when Edge gets out, might have to try it out by then

How is crossfire currently working out in DCS? I have a 7950 laying around doing nothing, and using a 7970 in the gamerig. So.. I've been thinking about crossfiring them, do you think that would gain me anything?

So, revisiting the A10C after a break, but still I find I can't get a proper view. It seems this never really was recognized as a bug, and we're still left hanging on the edge of the seat, so to speak? It's a bit frustrating, especially seeing how well the Sabre and the Hawk does it, where one is actually sitting in the seat, and not on the edge of it. It's pretty easy to get a good seat position in the A10C, it's just that pesky HUD symbology that becomes way oversized.

I'm not at my computer right now, but this can be fixed by modifying the controlfile under mods/aircraft/c101 (not 100% sure about the path) You have to uncomment (remove the --) at the start of four lines concerning trim, and comment out two other lines concerning trim. Sorry its a bit vague, but it's all from my rather dusty memory. Maybe someone else will chime in with more details.. Right, the file is default.lua and is found in: DCS World\Mods\aircraft\C-101\Input\joystick And, line 28-36 needs to look like this (well, atleast that is what I had success with) Remember to backup the original file!!

Reviving an old thread here, as I found no solution, when searching for G25 with Leo Bodnar cable, as rudder pedals. Just posting in the hope this will pop up should others be searching for the same.. Anyway, I managed to get mine working as rudders directly in the sim, by inverting the axis of both clutch and gas pedal, using Bodnars calibration program. Download link here http://www.leobodnar.com/products/DFPG25conn/Calibration-DFP-G25.exe

Or DCS Seahawk :music_whistling:

It won't replace the F10 map, if that is what you're after? It's simply a reference map, to be used outside of the sim, on a laptop or a tablet for example.
