Best way to measure if my CPU is a bad bottleneck
ElCuco68 replied to ElCuco68's topic in Virtual Reality
I've got a Corsair H100i (?) Water cooler on it. What's the best way to go about overclocking that CPU? I'm pretty sure the Asus MB I have it on has some kind of simplified overclocking scheme on it. -
Best way to measure if my CPU is a bad bottleneck

I'm still getting what I can only imagine is a low framerate at times; a barely-perceptible momentary freeze when I'm looking out the cockpit at the ground. I'll try the GPU-Z. What's the best way to display fps in VR view? -
...now that I've got a watercooled 1080Ti? I'm currently using an AMD FX-8350, and while I know that this is a mismatch, and I definitely need to upgrade (to the i7 8700k), I'm wondering if the 8700k would make a drastic, very noticable difference, or not enough of one to justify not waiting a few months to a year to upgrade (CPU and MB)? I'm using an Oculus Rift.

What type of SSD should I get?
ElCuco68 replied to ElCuco68's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I used one of those power supply calculator tools, and it said that with this card, and the 8700k (when I get it, soon), both overclocked, my wattage should be around 720w with everything I have (including all storage, USB devices, RAM, etc), so should I get an 850w or 100w, just in case, or should my EVGA Gold 750w be okay? -
I've got a similar dilemma. I just bought an EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 Hybrid (watercooled), which is due to be in my mailbox this afternoon, but my current system is an AMD FX-8350, 32Gb RAM. I'm seriously considering getting an 8700k right away, either from Amazon or Silicon Lottery, because I'm pretty sure that the 8350 is going to bottleneck the hell out of that card, but I'm wondering if the performance upgrade I'm going to get from going from a GTX-970 to the 1080Ti will keep me happy for a few months, or if I'm really missing out on some great performance by waiting. I also have the CV1, and plan on getting the next great thing within a couple years or so.

I bought this on eBay for $600: https://www.evga.com/articles/01123/evga-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-ftw3-hybrid/ Sells for this brand-new: https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Hybrid-Gaming-Technology/dp/B074D7S8HR/ref=pd_sim_147_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B074D7S8HR&pd_rd_r=43e8e460-a7b7-11e8-b96a-75051c3f57a5&pd_rd_w=00tnL&pd_rd_wg=uic0s&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=a180fdfb-b54e-4904-85ba-d852197d6c09&pf_rd_r=BQQ3Y3CQE344WF904RQG&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=BQQ3Y3CQE344WF904RQG The GTX-970 wasn't cutting it.

I currently have an AMD FX-8350, a Gigabyte GTX-970, 32GB of RAM, and various SSDs, and I'm thinking that the next logical step for Oculus Rift would be the 1080Ti. I'll upgrade the CPU later with an I9 or I7, but I'll also need a new mobo, so I'll defer that for now. My questions: Is this really a good logical next step and 2: When should I take the plunge? Rumor has it that October would be a good time, price-wise. I'm anxious to do this, as my 970 is pretty much maxed out, even with that mod that everyone's trying (with the new metacaches and whatnot), so I can barely wait to try this, but if it's going to save me a couple hundred bucks or so to wait, I will.

Hey, did you say that this is just the gimbal, or does it also come with the Warthog stick?

What type of SSD should I get?
ElCuco68 replied to ElCuco68's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Where would you go from here as far as CPU/GPU, given my setup? My instincts say to start with the 1080Ti, then upgrade to an i7 or i9 and appropriate mobo(which are good picks for DCS and VR?), then maybe a 256 gb NVMe SSD for the OS and a SATA 1 or 2 TB SSD for DCS and VR games? -
Right now, I have an Asus Crosshair V formula Z Motherboard, AMD 8350 CPU, a Gigabyte GTX-970 graphics card (hoping to get the 1080Ti soon), 32 GB RAM, liquid cooling, and about 6 or 7 various SSDs and HD's. I'm wanting to use the 500GB SSD to put Windows 10 on (it was on a 128 GB SSD), and transfer DCS and the Oculus Rift stuff from the older 500GB SSD and put it on at least a 1TB, faster SSD. Eventually, I'll get rid of the assortment of smal HDDs, and put everything else on a 6 or 8 TB 7200 rpm drive, keeping the 2TB 7200 drive I already have. What I'm wondering is if it makes sense to spend extra on the newer PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD's, which have insane read/write speeds, to speed up the loading process and help out the Oculus Rift? I'm not even sure if that's even a bottleneck, considering the fact that the MB is a few years old, and having the 8350, or even if that MB will take this newer type and be able to utilize it.

Just got Oculus Rift; I'm sitting outside my cockpit!
ElCuco68 replied to ElCuco68's topic in Virtual Reality
Got it fixed, thanks! WOW !! This is incredible! I was fully prepared to be underwhelmed, but this is FAR better than I was expecting! I now see exactly why people say "You can never go back to 2D". -
So, I just bought a 3-sensor O.Rift setup (with Touch controllers as well), and for some reason, I'm sitting outside and to the left of the plane's cockpit. I tried a few things but the best I can do is get just inside to the left of the seat back. What's going on?

I have an Asus Crosshair V formula Z MB, AMD-8350 CPU, GTX-970 GPU, about 1TB of SSD's, another 5 in HDDs, and 32 GB RAM, all about 3 years old, and it runs DCS perfectly, including VR. -

Thank you for a very polite and helpful answer to my question. That's apparently a skill beyond the cognitive capacity of some people. -

Would it be safe to assume that pretty much any DCS-related problem has been gone over multiple times before? I did actually use the search box, but didn't find anything that completely answered my question.
