It isn't part of the aircraft's sensors. It's part of the LITENING pod, as in part of its software which is the same regardless of the aircraft to which it is attached. In much the same way, if someone decided to fit the LITENING (or SNIPER) to an F-15C you'd still have all the AG functions. It's doesn't mean they'd start making use of said modes. The issue is much the same as the seemingly standard approach I see of people staring through the TGP (drinking straw) scanning for ground vehicles, rather than looking out of the cockpit. It's the same issue with AA, rule no1 is to get your head out of the cockpit and look outside, to cover your wingman and perform all the other duties you should be. Oh and no element of my previous post was intended as rude, not sure why you took it that way, but it wasn't the intention.

While that's fine if that's how you choose to play, real world TTPs do not agree with you. While you're looking thought the TGP searching for aircraft, you're breaking pretty much every wingman/flight lead contract out there. The LiTENINGs AA mode is there because it's part of the LITENING pod itself, not the aircraft it's attached to. It's another case, as often happens here, of people finding solutions to problems that don't really exist.

He isn't, 1 TGP and 1 SUU-25. No.

It's not right, the default HOF is too high and does not match reality. Best thing to do is set it to 700, that is closest to RW performance of the SFW.

Indeed. As Thumper points out, it's all down to you. You reach nearly 200 KIAS on the runway, rotation speed with a loadout of similar weight to what you were carrying would around 130 KIAS. You then pull to 50 degrees of pitch, well beyond what the A-10C could ever sustain (the max stable climb angle after takeoff would be 7-13 degrees depending on weight & drag). Either you're control config is incorrect, or you need to learn the basics of how to fly.

The main thing that needs addressing is the amount of momentum that DCS flares carry, they just don't separate from the aircraft fast enough. They also burn too long in most cases (although this depends which flare you compare to). What we really need are multiple flare types in DCS.

You use a different threat library/multi mission data load which reflects the order of battle. No more complex than loading new map data or anything else. Many RWR systems allow for multiple threat libraries to be loaded and the pilot can select them from the RWR config menus, as well as other options that affect threat prioritisation (hide or show search emitters for example). The same type of data is used for the "AUTO" modes in newer countermeasures dispensing systems, and also ECM systems.

No. Yep. MJU-50/B.

To trim the aircraft incase of a failed engine or airframe damage.

He's right though, jet stream winds would be a good addition, high altitude winds are somewhat lacking in DCS. Even with static weather you can't set more than around 97 knots windspeed, which doesn't cut it for high alt winds in areas of the world which sit under the jet stream wind currents (like Nevada/Middle East).

You suspect wrongly. The CCD and FLIR sensors in the LITENING are 1024x1024, that is all. The additional factor to consider is that the MFDs in many older Gen4 aircraft are actually lower resolution that that as well. As for the recodording, yes there are issues as you'd expect with an analogue tape recording (as in most aircraft), but it's still not as crisp as in DCS.

This part has me confused. The coolie hat has nothing to do with radios. The mic switch doesn't "select" radios, it is the PTT or to be accurate three separate PTTs, one for each radio.

towsim, We're having issues with 1.955 where people in the sim running aries can still hear people talking in the channel who are not in the sim (not running aries). Any ideas what the cause could be? Interestingly when running Gossipbox the same problem is not present, it correctly mutes people not running in sim etc. Edit: Looks like something to do with "Eavesdropper". Even when someone doesn't touch the eavesdropper in the TS menu, if anyone else in the channel has/does it seems to affect everyone. Very weird.

China Hat Forward Long TGP slaving to Steerpoint?
Eddie replied to bunraku's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
China Fwd long isn't slaving to a steer point, it's slaving to your SPI as the training mission says. You always have a SPI/SPI generator. By default your SPI generator is the active steer point until you change it and TMS aft long set the SPI generator back to the active steer point again. -
Transfer alignment isn't a "procedure" you follow, it's an automated process that occurs when you command a weapon release. No. But then it isn't really in real life either. And apart from in VERY specific tactical situations toss deliveries are not used or advised for JDAM as they actually reduce the weapons range and performance. Maximum range and effectiveness is achieved by employing JDAM for a medium/high altitude level release. Yes. Not in the A-10C. The A-10C uses the JDAM TOO functionality only. As stated already, no. The DCS JDAM shares little more than its visual appearance with the real JDAM weapon system.

One big screen or several MFD screen for aircrat?
Eddie replied to FoxHoundELite's topic in Military and Aviation
If the "computer" and/or data bus driving your 2/3/4 displays fails, you're "screwed" as well. And that's far more likely. And as has been alluded to, a single display can be made from two or more display panels side by side much like a multi screen setup for your home PC. Redundancy is only really a significant issue for flight safety critical aircraft systems, not mission systems. Provided the aircraft has a backup system, which would be entirely separated from the main display and it's controllers/power source etc. then there is no real problem. You don't have redundancy for every system on an aircraft, especially when it comes to avionics. And if the failure rate for your single display is low then the advantages to mission effectiveness far outweigh any risk associated with failures. -
Indeed distortion and static is a great improvement to realism, but what we had last night was way too much. It we heard comm like that we'd be pulling radios etc as unserviceable. There also needs to be scope for better than real quality but still not 100% to account for those with no experience deciphering radio comm and especially non native English speakers. While Snoopy and I could deal with what we had last night, people not used to radio usage and not native speakers, like Stuka were really having a hard time. Stuka actually said he simply couldn't fly like that. I think "real" quality should be down at the low end of the slider instead of the middle to allow for plenty of tweaking.
-
We can, but it will take a few days to get people together for another test.
-
Not sure of the airfield in out tests last niggt, as Snoopy built the mission he will be able to give that detail. But as far as the quality even setting '9' on all 3 radios resulted in at best 3/5 reception and a real struggle for non native English speakers to understand comm traffic. Disabling the mask effect dud help a little but only by Disabling voice distortion entirely can we work with it. But of course then it's too clear.

Check airport charts for lighting type, and then replicate it. All airfield lighting systems are standardised. See video below for simple explanations of airfield lighting systems...

Even SAR can't pick out dismounted infantry, or tell the difference between a non-combatant driving to work and a pickup truck full or insurgents. If you're flying into a kill box and shooting anything "tank" shaped then yes SA/GM/GMT RADAR can do the job. If civilian casualties etc is a concern then you need Mk1 eyeball or TGP etc. Actually a mission being CAS or Air Interdiction is not determined by proximity to friendly forces, but by whether or not the mission involves coordination with friendly ground units. You could be dropping ordnance across the street from friendlies (extreme example used to illustrate the point), but if you're not talking to/coordinating with them then it's air interdiction, and not CAS.
