  1. thanks Sysmokey, a good idea.
  2. Hi all, Has anyone tried both table and chair mounts for the hotas? Did you find one better than other, and why? I won't be modifying the stick with a longer one, so i guess side mounted stick will be what I do. I have the option to do either, I'll be building it whichever way I go, but prefer to only so it once. I'm thinking desk will be cheaper (can do timber rather than aluminium). Downside will be I might bash my knees on the mounts, unless I do quick release clamps. If I do chair. I need to modify some arms I got, to fit my chair, then make and attach a mount. I've got a ch combo, which don't have mount holes. Thinking easiest option regardless of how I make the mount, is to use 4 magnets glued onto the base, and add some metal for them to stick to. Anyone got thoughts/experience? Thanks
  3. I've got a 5700xt coming next week, happy to test... But i don't have vr. My cousin does though. Hmmm. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. definitely a fad. I was doing it with led's and drilling holes on my case for hdds and exhaust back in 1996 when I was 15 as they didn't have the option. But now everything is rgb and I want a break, but most the good cases on a budget has led, so it is what it is. But if you like it, even better :) I even did slicing of the pararell cable to turn it into a round cable to improve airflow. Those were the days... So glad they are in the past. I bought a Ryzen 3600 won 5700 xt for 3 screens...should come next week Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. ended up buying just now...so hope I did good! I originally was getting the seasonic, but the shop that had the rest of the stuff cheap didn't sell them.
  6. New PC Build Spec Thanks. Does 3 screens work it harder than vr? No way I am going to add the extra for a ti card. I'll go back to one screen or vr before that.
  7. New PC Build Spec Double post.
  8. Hi All, PC build for DCS world. This is the most I can afford(more really), I would be happy to save some. running 3 screens 1920x1200 each with trackIR. Don't intend to go to VR in the next few years. https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/2KdLsk Thoughts please? More detail : Prices in aud. Buying today or tomorrow, impulse buy with some deals that end today. I may hold off on the video cars to see if any other deals come up for cyber Monday. I did consider saving $70 and going the b450 tomahawk max, but decided at the price I'm spending I may as well get the newer chipset. Unless someone knows why the tomahawk max may be better? If I did that, I'd also drop one of the m2. Price today means the nvme is about same price as a 2.5" sata. I added heatsinks to m2. I considered a nvidia 2060s, but value is better with the 5700xt. Another option is I go a rx580/590 and save a few hundred. Chose cl16 3600 ram as it was best value. I could save $20 or so and get cl18. Figured this was safer in case I overclock. Cheers Chris
  9. Noob here... Is the log book just for bragging rights or does it serve some other purpose? I currently just crash (single player) when I get board and decide to quit the game...is that going to bite me in the butt at some point? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I'm learning too.I've only done it 5 times. First 2 times I went way past they cat, third time I went in the drink out of frustation. Then i spent more time on moving throttle up super slow until it just started moving. I then hit the cat the next 2 times straight up. So for me - hardest part was power/brakes. So if thats the same for you, just go slow. If you have a lining up issue, then just either head towards stern, then turn back around to give you more time. another option - just go to a runway, practive lining up on a line somewhere. once there, look around, pick another line that isnt straight ahead...repeat. then for finer adjustment, use the external view. Also, I was surprised how far back the auto connect thingy works, I was like 4 foot back at a guess and it pulled me in.
  11. hows about a cockpit mod for snakes on planes?
  12. I'd put windows on the 500gb. It should be enough for Windows and most applications a general user would have. I have a 256gm for my windows drive and am fine unless I get lazy and save onto desktop. I have about 300gb of games, but I only have the hornet in terms of dcs downloads. Best option would be just check you're old computers space used and where it's used. That should tell you how to make it work. If it happens that one is nvme and the other isn't, then if it's mostly for dcs, then put Dcs on the nvme. (Nvme is faster) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Yes. And likey in 2020. Haha. Though I'm seeking permission from the minister of finances. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. thanks.Borrowed a r9 290x, and got my FPS back to 50-60 with three screens on low settings. That will have to do for now.
  15. thanks. if I go to the $600 range, then I was considering the 2060s or the 5700, which can overclock to xt, for an extra $29. Apart from everyone saying DCS runs better on nvidia, the 5700xt beats it in most areas..though perhaps that is the area that DCS needs. I'll try to dig up what it is that DCS likes about Nvidia https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-2060S-Super-vs-AMD-RX-5700-XT/4049vs4045
  16. thanks, txmtb, but the 2070 is way over budget for me :)
  17. anyone know why Nvidia performs better than AMD on DCS?
  18. thanks guys. The 5700 can be made a 5700xt with a soft mod it seems, so that makes it a bit better. No way I am going above a 5700/2060 super with my budget (which is actually currently $0, just hoping to convince my wife of increasing that haha) I think the 5700 with soft mod to xt is probably where I'm at. Otherwise the 1660. But if I'm spending $350-400, almost double the performance for another $200 seems to make sense to spend the extra.
  19. Hi All, I am determining a possible build, and will be seeing what sort of deals come up for black Friday. I'd appreciate some advise please. I recently purchased the hornet, and my specs are below the minimum specs, but it does run (you may have seen my other thread). I have three 60hz 24", 1920x1200 screens. This is what I intend to run with. I am not 100% commited as to whether I'll run all 3 as a standard view, or if I'll go to one screen for main view with MFD etc on another screen. I am currently considering the Ryzen 5 3600, 32gb RAM, SSD for OS, another for games. I am reasonably set on the 3600 at this point in time, unless an intel happens to drop price more than the 3600. My main question is around the GPU. If someone by chance happens to have a selection guide to the effect of GPU1 > GPU2 > GPU3 then this may help. I am tossing up the value of me spending $350 or $600 (Australian) for a 1920x1200 scenario. In that price range, I think I'm comparing: AMD / Nvidia 5700 / 2060 super (~$600) 590 / 1660 (~$350) and there is the 1660 super for around $400 So perhaps for me the questions would be: Is there any value for my scenario (1920x1200) going to a 5700/2060 super? Is the 590 or 1660 better for DCS? How much better is 1660 vs 1660 super? Is the 5700 or 2060 super better for DCS? Once I determine the GPU, I'll put a build list together and then probably discuss motherboards... I'm comfortable overclocking the CPU, but never OC'd a GPU before, so not sure I'd go ahead with that. thanks :)
  20. Ps. Airfield landing is the same. But easier. Try there first. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I did the same. I just tried to land it like every other plane. It doesn't work. I'm still learning, but I found best way is get to 250 speed (and dropping). Gear down full flaps. Close air brake at some point. At this point you'll need to nose up on trim a lot. Do that till you get into e bracket. You may have dropped way too much if you didn't adjust quick enough. Once into e bracket leave stick alone , except if you need to turn. Just use throttle constantly to keep on speed/pointed at deck. Once you grasp that, the tutorial videos make more sense and have better advice then me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. thats a cool video. Glad to see it done in real life :)
  23. thanks, thats what I thought, but the above linked video was claimed to be no stick...however... ah ok thanks. Won't happen with me then as I don't have a split throttle.
  24. Perhaps I don't know what they are then. Prepar3d is $200 USD FSX is $35 AUD, which is $25 USD Large title non flight sims that I actually know (I am actually not a gamer) ARMA, $15 on sale, GTA5 $20 on sale. All my gamer friends didn't believe me when I said it was $105 for the hornet (Australian) and $80 for a map to play it on. I was hoping they'd get into it, but not going to happen. I wonder how much the new MS FSX will be? I am guessing less than $80 a plane/map. Don't get me wrong, I went with DCS cause I wanted the hornet and no-one else is doing it in a combat sim (to my knowledge), and I'll probably buy a map, once I am better at it and get a new computer, cause my 8 year old one doesn't cut it. I still don't get how any of that relates to "one free map too many". By having a free map, it allows people to check it out.
  25. I've only just started a week ago. The constant move of throttle made a huge difference for me. How do you turn without stick input? Use Ailerons trim? Is that how a real pilot would do it?
