  1. Sharkster: To be fair, the last study sim of a combat helicopter was, of course, DCS: Black Shark. I think alot of this boils down to the fact that alot of people simply really, really love the Apache and are very anxious for a successor to the Longbow series. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I feel similarly about the A-10, except that it's never been done properly. But there's no reason to suspect that jets get more favoritism from the developers. It's not that it is no longer certain that the Apache is after the A-10, it was never certain. It is, however extremely likely given the suggestions and screenshots from the developers. As has been said repeatedly, it boils down to available information. If they can get full access to information for a variety of helicopters, I'm sure they'll do their best to please both sides of the fence (jet/heli fans). Just be patient and enjoy what you have as you get it, and I think you'll be pleasantly suprised with whatever module you play. I was never even slightly interested in helicopter combat before BS. Now I really enjoy it and am glad someone did it justice in a modern graphics engine. However, I never get quite the same feeling with helicopters as I do in a fixed wing. That I think has to do with the fact that the helicopter is a physically unstable design; it just doesn't give me the same graceful feeling of soaring through the skies while I reign death down from above. It really all comes down to personal preference, and I'm sure everyone will find their niche eventually. EtherealN: Yes, that's true. But still I think they recognized that rotor fans had been left in the dark and wanted to do something about it.
  2. Well, I suppose that I don't have to tell anyone I voted for the A-10C. Sharkster, I'm pretty sure ED knows there are plenty of rotorheads out there and that they've long been yearning for something new. Otherwise, why would they have kicked off the series with the KA-50? They've also made a whole host of players interested in helicopters who weren't before BS, including myself. But you also have to understand that there hasn't been a detailed study sim of a military fixed wing aircraft since Falcon! Comparing anything from DCS to LOMAC or any other survey sim is simply pointless. So, we've been waiting a long time too. :music_whistling: I also understand that people want some good 'ole classic head-to-head in heli form, but personally I think that is one of the more uninteresting forms of multiplayer possible with multiple aircraft in DCS. Not only that, but wouldn't that make for a pretty lopsided engagement with the AH-64's superior A/A capabilities? I also agree that ground forces need alot more responsiveness for helicopters as well as jets, but especially for helicopters. I'm more interested in the cooperative aspect of multiplayer, at least until we have alot more aircraft on both sides of the pond. For instance, how amazing would it be to have an OH-58D Kiowa scout lasing targets for Apaches behind terrain cover? This is probably very unlikely, but it gives you an idea of what I'm talking about. Still, everyone's entitled to their opinion and I don't mean for any hostility to spill over from the other thread. edit: I think the poll calculations are a bit off... AH-64A Apache - 42.36% A-10C Warthog - 60.42% for a total of.. 102.78% ?!
  3. Yes, that's pretty accurate about patriotic Americans and the A-10, but why do you say it like it's a bad thing? There's just no other fixed wing ground pounder quite like it: simple, rugged, efficient and tough as hell. It reminds me a bit of russian tech in that regard. Not to mention that big, beautiful cannon and it's mighty roar that strikes fear into anyone within miles. It's just an amazing aircraft, and I would argue that it is every bit of an icon as the Apache if not more so. I don't understand what these other, more interesting reasons are you think the Apache is famous for? It's a kick ass death machine that operates low to the ground and targets armor, same as the A-10. They're really counterparts: The Apache is the A-10's equivalent in heli form. So I really like how they're going about this, and I can't wait to fly them both. What I really want to know is what's after that! :)
  4. LUA Exporting in DCS The Physical Cockpit Interface Package should hopefully do or help with all youre asking about, but time will tell. As for hirevsims, Deadman's right. Even if they did, they are priced at about 16,000 dollars if I remember correctly.
  5. [EDIT BY MOD: RULE 1.2] Anyway, I think I've wasted enough time on this for the night, this dorky-make-believe-fighter-pilot is signing out. Have fun, whatever that might mean to you. Roger Wilco, Over & Out [...] Ok really this time, peace and love to all the peoples of the world, good night sirs.
  6. To my knowledge there has been substantially little profit for Black Shark so far, and I really doubt that is their main motivation for how they do things. If it were, they would probably just stick with military contracts. And to say that two aircraft modules should be priced the same as one is ridiculous and clearly shows your ignorance on what it takes to produce them. In any case, I really doubt you would have been more happy to have waited an extra year or so for any release whatsoever just so your ideas of how multiplayer should be were implemented.
  7. No, it's not a game. It's a simulation in every aspect, and that is very different from a game, particularly in depth and enjoyability. Going by your post, what you want is something entirely different than DCS. Why do people insist on watering down the DCS standards just so they can fly their favorite aircraft? Actually, this would be "retreading old ground," as you say; much more so than making an A-10C module. They did what you're asking very well with LOMAC, now it's time for something different. If you want it to be a glazed over mock up based on shoddy information, do it yourself instead of asking a very serious and respectable developer to throw their principles of design and quality out for your benefit. I'm sorry if that's a bit harsh, it just seems like there's a new thread exactly like this every few days, except with helo "x" or jet "y" instead of the comanche. I resent seeing so many people ask ED to lower the bar on their principles of design and quality with this product line, especially considering all the hard work, time and dedication that it took to bring a sim to the civilian market with such amazingly rich depth. I can't help but think ED must feel similar when they read these posts. edit: Looks like I responded too slowly, there's already another selfish, whiney post telling ED how to do their job. Not everyone is solely interested in helicopters. I like both, but I prefer jets and am a HUGE A-10 fan. There's also alot of like minded people out there waiting for a fixed wing sim of DCS caliber very anxiously, so I think they are trying to please as many people as possible as quickly as possible. You heli dudes got the first go around (bastards!:pilotfly:), now it's the jet jockies turn: deal with it. AS for multiplayer, it's always been ED's intention to make it a coop oriented experience, at least early on. None the less, there are plenty of ways to balance having A-10's and KA-50's in the same map, on opposing factions or an alliance. Really though, my main problem with all this boils down to the fact that I would be extremely happy with with any aircraft modelled with the DCS quality of simulation, and I don't understand why more people don't feel the same.
  8. Off-screen "PLanes and Choppers" video -some good stuff in here http://www.armaholic.com/index.php?m=single&id=3806 It should be a more enjoyable version of DCS Arcade Mode, but I'd much rather the DCS: Warthog module was coming out this soon. :)
  9. Kuky: Based on this sudden wave of new media I'd say within a couple months. Anyone see this? http://pc.ign.com/dor/objects/958404/arma-2/videos/arma2_InGame_021908.html Flyable Ka-52 Alligator, near the end. Also the USMC Video shows off the A-10, but with no cockpit views. I know the A-10 will be flyable, but what version I can't say for sure yet. If anyone finds any screenshots or info let me know.
  10. Mark my words, flight sims shall rise again, and I very much admire Eagle Dynamics for continuing to carry the torch during such a dark time for the genre.
  11. Yeah, that was to be my next move. I was just hoping it could be done through lua editing. If anyone can confirm whether this is or isn't possible to be done on a user level that would be great.
  12. Is this possible? It seems like it could be done fairly easily since you have volume sliders for cockpit, external, mechanical, wind etc. What I would like to do is have a headset dedicated to only playing cockpit sounds, and then everything else coming out of the speakers. This is how the USAF handles sound with their simulators, and it gives a nice effect of being in an enclosed cockpit. Does anyone know if this can be done?
  13. No, not exactly... It isn't force feedback in the sense that it can hold trim position and move on it's own. It's a different system that closely mimics what is used in the real F-16. The stick only has a few cm's of play in it but it achieves far greater sensitivity and control because the degree of movement is calculated based on the ammount of pressure being put against the stick. This is much more managable by the human body allowing extremely precise control movements.
  14. Do you think there would be similar problems with using the FCC mod? (Force sensor controlled) http://cougar.frugalsworld.com/fcc_mirv.php
  15. Unless he's referring to the rain/snow...
  16. Yes, I've been planning to pick that one up for a while now. I'll be sure to get it now that it has been endorsed by an ED employee. :)
  17. I'm planning an Hawg C pit as well, but I'm still in the CAD mock up/planning stage. It's pretty slow going, but that's ok because we have a nice head start! Anyway, I've found that the dimensions in the above schematic are not accurate. It's a good 15-20mm out of scale. I'll post what dimensions I have when I can get to my home computer.
  18. What are you talking about? This isn't Lock On, one bird at a time. And that's how we like it.
  19. I'm afraid not. Tracks can play at different speeds, but in only one direction. They don't work like a movie, it's the game actually replaying the events as they originally unfolded. Rewinding would be very difficult if not impossible to implement using this system.
  20. Yep, I actually called a while back to ask about this and they quickly shot me down. I don't think it's strictly government, but they don't sell to individual consumers. And they are undoubtedly much, MUCH more expensive than $2000.
  21. It does look really good, but it would be nice if everything that didn't burn away wasn't still perfectly intact. I would think there should be some twisted metal on the canopy frame, side mirrors, etc. Minor (constructive) criticism on an otherwise flawless model!
  22. Are you serious? I mean, I understand your disapproval of using depleted uranium and I agree, but how does that effect your experience at all? I kind of doubt radiation poisoning will be modeled anyway, so you can strafe without virtual guilt.
  23. Unfortunately I have no dimensions or other info to share, but I would ask this guy: http://www.viperpits.org/smf/index.php?topic=2905.0 Seem like he would have something for you. Also, I ran across a few items on ebay you might be interested in: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AH-64-Helicopter-Cockpit-Master-Caution-Indicator-Panel_W0QQitemZ330306174276QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Aviation_Parts_Gear?hash=item330306174276&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:727|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/McDonnell-Douglas-AH-64-Helicopter-Oil-Press-Indicator_W0QQitemZ330306175176QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Aviation_Parts_Gear?hash=item330306175176&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:727|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318#ht_503wt_1704 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Boeing-AH-64-Helicopter-Power-Distrib-Control-Panel_W0QQitemZ230324125555QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Aviation_Parts_Gear?hash=item230324125555&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:727|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318#ht_629wt_1704 I'm about to start construction on an A-10C pit and I would LOVE to be able to purchase parts like that, not to mention at those prices! It's a great help to have some original panels to start with for figuring out dimensions, materials, construction etc.
  24. Didn't he say that the axis command was unavailable with his stick on that axis? Read post? ;)
