  1. I'm confused... Why on earth would you need to program pedals? Seems like a pretty straight forward axis bind to me. I haven't used anything CH and generally I wouldn't recommend Saitek either because of their horrible customer support. However, my Pro Pedals arrived yesterday and I am very happy with them so far. Pedal distance and force are important to me, so it was the logical choice. They feel very sturdy and so far the movement is extremely smooth and precise, with perfect zeroing.
  2. "New replica handle shape, with realistic pressure on buttons and trigger." -YEEESSS! I'm so very glad they redesigned the grip, the Cougar was pretty inaccurate. It even looks powder coated, no more gloss black shite@!! I want it and I want it now.
  3. I'm sure there's a very big KA-50 thread buried somewhere too... All I can say is chastise the forum structure, not the posters.
  4. I think they are the publishers, but also help out with development. From my understanding though, ED retains all rights to their products.
  5. Sorry y2kiah, thanks for the correction. I misread your original post and thought you were saying something much more complicated; insomnia tends to do that to me. :\ Also, I speaking in general absolutes, just current DCS absolutes, as Gadroc illustrated (Thanks Gadroc!).
  6. Wow, really? That's especially impressive considering I've had no need to play on anything below High, even with my aging computer!
  7. mod·ule ... 5. Computer Science A portion of a program that carries out a specific function and may be used alone or combined with other modules of the same program. Not that it really matters to me either way, but this is kind of silly... I understand the possibility of the two modules not being fully integrated by the time Warthog goes gold, but there is absolutely no reason they can't share redundant files. GG, I think what you're saying is that these are stand alone products that are being produced with the intention of making them compatible at some point down the road. So, why then not plan ahead and include the core elements on both discs/digital downloads but have the installer detect whether or not extracting everything is necessary? Or better yet, offer the digital downloads as a full version of DCS XYZ and a module "patch" for KA-50 owners. Like I said, it's not a huge issue at this point since there will only be two modules, but of course I would rather not have gigs and gigs of redundant files for FC 2.0, Black Shark and Warthog!
  8. I doubt think that's how things work in game, there are far more efficient means such as shaders or sprites. Likewise, it would be easier and less performance heavy to just send text to the LCD.
  9. Ain't she a peach? :smilewink:
  10. You're welcome! I'm not sure what characters you're referring to, but new fonts could always be made. If you're talking about extracting them from lua, well, the sim has to send them somehow right? If it's a nonstandard character it's probably substituted for another, or a code string.
  11. That isn't even an option now, let alone 5 years ago. I see nothing wrong with having an ambitious project of their own, and I commend them for going after it and not giving up. I can't say whether or not we'll ever get to fly it, but I sure hope so.
  12. From the Fighter Ops website: "On behalf of all of the Fighter Ops team members and staff, I'd like to wish all of the forum members a very happy and safe holiday season and a fantastic new year! This past year saw many challenges for the FO team, however despite those, significant progress was made and we are in a very good position for some very significant milestones to be blown away in 2010. We look forward to sharing those with you all in the coming year." Sounds good to me, I hope it's true.
  13. Yea, it would definately be nice to have a more fleshed out FO role in multiplayer with deployable smoke and whatnot. Anything ED can to that end will increase enjoyability/immersion tenfold. Given what was said in that SimHQ article, I think they are definately working on it.
  14. Yea, kind of strange as the screen clearly allows for 10 lines. Maybe it means 8 manipulatable lines, 7 + 1 for the scratchpad?
  15. http://www.rockwellcollins.com/ecat/gs/CDU-900.html?smenu=103 That seems to be basically the same CDU model as used in the A-10, and Deadman's measurements fit: CDU-900 Family Display and Keyboard Screen size 3.25 in. x 2.60 in. 8 lines, 22 characters/line 220 x 170 graphics capability 8 line select keys 7 generic function keys Full alphanumeric plus dedicated keys Qualification MIL-E-5400, Class 1A MIL-STD-461 EMI (Incl 200 V/M) 1500 V/M Design Size Millimeters 181.00 x 146.05 x 165.1 (w/o conn) Inches 7.125 H x5.75 W x 6.5 D (w/o conn) Weight 4.54 kg max (incl I/O card, w/o GPS) 10.0 lb max Cooling Convection Power 28 V dc, 34 W max (w/o GPS module) Lighting 5 V ac, 10 W Memory 4 MB flash EEPROM, application software and fixed CSCI 1 MB RAM Also, Driven Technologies has a replica CDU and MFD that might be a useful reference: http://driven-technologies.com/prod_pages/prod1.html
  16. I admit, I haven't read the entirety of this thread. Someone actually said WoP will replace SoW? Ridiculous! People are so afraid of developers going under these days, when anyone tries to do anything remotely similar to their favorite franchise they lash out in defense however possible. I think most don't realize that there is ALOT of breathing room in the sim market right now and competition will benefit everyone, to a certain point anyway.
  17. While I understand your argument, I can't agree with that analogy. I think a more fair one would be WoP is to IL2, as LOMAC is to Falcon 4(or better yet, LOMAC is to DCS, all things considered..), but on these forums that hits closer to home, and is no doubt harder to swallow... WoP may not match everyone's ideal (which is virtually impossible anyway), but I absolutely cannot stand to see fellow flight simmers turning up their noses at developers who try to narrow the gap between mainstream gamers and ourselves. How quickly we forget how closely true commercial flight simulation came to extinction! Ace Combat completely abandoned any shred of simulation and HAWX rocketed even further into the realm of absolute fantasy, complete with twin afterburners on an A-10A model and other ridiculous flash. Products such as WoP that atleast attempt to offer something for everyone should be praised for trying to reclaim the younger demographic that has been led astray by lazy, unambitious developers only seeking to line their pockets, and also for showing respect to the average consumer's intelligence, whether warranted or not. Bashing and shunning new titles because you prefer the severely aged classics only serves to turn off newcomers and further marginalize the genre. Ok, end rant. Oh, and this was not directed at you, Feuerfalke. I hope it didn't come across that way, it's just something that's been irking me for a long time.
  18. Quite right, well said.
  19. Thanks for the clarification DM. I thought that was the case, but it was hard to be sure without the real thing in front of me. The picture(s) I was thinking of are from the Air Force simulator, wherein all the NV Green lights are on in a dark enviroment, so the transparent gear handle was glowing bright green. Merry Christmas everybody!
  20. Great stuff, much appreciated Wags!
  21. Sorry sweinhart, I was only trying to help. Flim and I will continue this in PM. I can confirm that the handle is still bent, it's just hard to tell at that angle. Deadman, do you have the real thing? In alot of photos it appears to be glowing green when the gear are up, but it's hard to tell if that's just the floodlights or not.
  22. What exactly do you mean by "officially released?" I was judging your design by the CAD renders posted on viperpit.org, as well as the pictures on your own website of the "A-10 ACES II" seat available for purchase. If this was not officially released, how was anyone supposed to know? It seems this page has since been removed, which indicates to me that it was rushed into production and recalled later. So, labeling my remarks as those of a bitter accuracy nazi is a bit much I think. Actually, when you announced you were developing A-10 pits I was enthusiastic about it as I thought it would be good for the community. It was only when you began to advertise and sell your products that I was disappointed by the quality and what I considered to be a misleading description. Even so, I never publicly said anything about it until now, despite my inclination to do so. In any case, it is your right to sell whatever you want, but it is also my right to speak my mind about it. Hopefully in the future this won't be necessary.
  23. Nope, Eagle Dynamics has not and will not allow importing of .lom files, only export plugins have been released. This is to protect the models from those who would steal/misuse them.
  24. In regards to the ACES II, I understand the budget vs. accuracy argument, but in all honesty you probably would have done better in both areas building your own. I would say the worst of the disparities is the seatback angle of recline. It is the same as the F16's, nearly double what it should be in an A-10. This won't seem so important until you sit in your pit and your feet are on the instrument panel and you can't see the HUD.
