  1. Will MAC have the same level of simulation as standard DCS? I want to keep the challenge of maneuvering around in the MiG 21.
  2. Is it a viable strategy to set your Radar to standby to reduce your footprint? Sure, you won't be able to use Radar Missiles, but would enemies not be able to spot you on Radar?
  3. Pretty sure it's my own fault, but for some reason I am significantly more accurate using the Gunpods and the ASP gunsight set for the Pods. Using the standard cannon however, I have a lot of trouble picking off targets the size of HEMETTs, and I often use the static sight for that business.
  4. If this really is the case, no wonder why the Gunsight is so off when it comes to firing on Ground targets or other aircraft.
  5. It's hard to imagine how horrifying it would be if these nuclear weapons were used in war. A squadron of 21's toss-bombing the everloving pulp out of joint military bases in Europe. That would be some nasty stuff.
  6. I honestly would prefer an Cockpit Visibility Option, where the first choice would be the Canopy Visibility as it is in 2.5. The second choice would be a Cleaned Canopy, where every little spot of grime in the way of you and your target are cleaned off. I personally like the grungy feel of the cockpit, but the canopy's dirt is the only more annoying thing about the grunge levels. I really love pushing this beat up old bird to its limits, against the odds, and making a valiant effort against modern aircraft. I say give players a choice. Clean Canopy or Dirty Canopy. Dirty Cockpit and Clean Cockpit. I believe that would be the best compromise.
  7. I have been getting familarized with air to air gun combat, but as far as I can tell, I just can't trust my pipper to land precise hits of targets, whether they move or not. It's great for determining the effective gun range on a target, or, with a target that remains on a constant vector. Overall, when it comes to firing at precise areas of an aircraft, i find the Static Gunsight way more effective to, let's say, blasting out an engine on a bomber, or a pressed attack on an aircraft's fuselage. I do remember looking through the pilot's manual, and it did emphasize the use of the Static Gunsight over the Pipper in combat. What usually happens for me is this kind of scenario: in the final adjustments before firing while in range, i nudge the aircraft a little too far to one side and the pip just dances around for a good 5 seconds or so, and through that window, it's too late. Is sideslip the issue? Or just poor gunnery performance?
  8. I suppose the details of the electrical systems in the aircraft are for the mechanics, not the Pilots. Not to mention, the storied history of post-purchase modification of MiG-21's would mean that just about anything could be underneath those panels.
  9. In a pilot's manual I had found, along with other accounts from jet aircraft other than the 21, that introducing large amounts of missile exhaust into the jet intake can shut down the engine in mid flight. Apprently, it was enough of a danger that the Pilot's manual recommended before firing any missile that the user should flip the Air Relight switch before firing a missile, and immediately switch it off once the aircraft is clear of the exhaust. I doubt that sort of thing is implemented, but it would make for some even hairier dogfights when your offensive weapons are potentially dangerous to yourself.
  10. I had found a PDF Pilot's Manual in English for the 21-Bis that was translated into English in the ED forums. It goes over a lot of useful procedures and even some doctrine info, but the translation is a little confusing and over-descriptive at times. If you manage to find it, the book has a blue cover and has some Arabic Script in some places. It's very well worth looking over, and it appears that portions of it are used in the Official Manual from Leatherneck.
  11. Thank you very much for the advice! I had finally managed to get a lock (and a Radar Missile) onto the Tu-142 in the Target practice mission. Turning on Markers and setting Distance readouts into Kilometers really helped with getting the hang of the Radar. Sometimes the radar's readouts are rather unhelpful compared to modern systems; especially when it comes to the radar displaying radar signatures in front of you. But, the more accurate range readouts and simple to use missile launch system does make things easier once you lock on.
  12. I understand that the Sapphire is a rather narrow ranged little Radar, but usually I have trouble acquiring a target that I can visually identify with enough player zoom and some squinting but sometimes they just don't show up on Radar. One of the stranger aircraft I had issues targeting with the radar is one of those Tupolev long range bombers in the Target Practice mission. I'm unsure whether or not it was the case that the bomber was moving slowly, but even turning on the LST switch didn't increase my chances of targeting it. It's an enormous aircraft that I should have no trouble targeting in the first place. Am I just Bad? Any other tips on target acquisition with the Radar?
  13. Which files are we copying? I'm trying this process now and I'm having trouble figuring out which is which
  14. You would expect that Ground power would be used exclusively for kick-starting the engine, and after the APU is up and running and keeping the aircraft powered, and then disconnect it as you ready yourself for take off. I suppose that it would be a nice touch to test various high-energy aircraft systems before starting the engine.
  15. I had noticed in one of the Pilot's manuals that I had found online had some procedures regarding some sort of relationship between the ASP gunsight and the Radar. From the looks of it, in all procedures regarding combat, no matter what weapon you are using against another aircraft, you are recommended to lock your target on radar before firing something at it. I was wondering if the ASP gunsight can provide any additional information using the pipper once there is a lock on the aircraft. For example, if I have the ASP on GUN/Gyro mode and I have a lock on the aircraft ahead of me, will the Sapphire give more accurate bead on the target? I have tried out locking onto targets with and without locking an aircraft and using my cannon. Sadly, I have not noticed a difference in accuracy with or without a lock-on.
  16. I own the Module, and have a basic know how of the startup, but it seems that there isn't much of a distinction between the ground power and the internal battery during a cold start. When I start the thing up, there doesn't seem to be a difference between the two. Whether I turn on Ground power or not, the thing manages to start up without much trouble.
  17. Thank you for the info! I really wasn't able to find this anywhere!
  18. In my honest Opinion, I really like the update. Sure, a lot of the feel of the cockpit was changed, but I think it was for the better, My only minor gripes with the cockpit is the half-burnt looking glass on the gunsight, and the not as clear looking warning lights. I also have noticed is that the immense amounts of glare on the glass in the previous update has been greatly reduced in the new one. Not to mention, to my greatest relief, the mirror on the canopy is better oriented to actually see behind you!
  19. When I had started up the MiG-21 Bis Module for a bit of 4th of July fun, I experienced a very strange cockpit error in which the textures on most instruments were horribly misplaced. Thankfully, that was easily fixed by switching cockpit languages to English(Metric). That's where I also realized that there was a new Chinese Translation of the instrumentation as well. When that was over with, I had realized there had been a rather sizable cockpit overhaul in both the texture work and further translation of a variety of instruments on board. Things like the Anti-Ice plunger, Descriptions on flight stick buttons, and other instrumentation that was in Cyrillic earlier was now in English! Most importantly, the RSBN and ARK notes on the right side of the Canopy were finally translated into something i could actually read and reference without flipping through a kneeboard. What I found strange is that this update, as far as I could scour, had not been announced or summarized anywhere. I would really like to know what else they had changed besides the blindingly obvious. How could such a large update to the instrumentation go unnoticed?
  20. I was hoping that I didn't have to pay for that. Sure, it's of great build quality and they need to turn a profit, but I'm not all that willing to pay for approximately a DCS module to headtrack better. If I can find a way to track well and save a buck, I'm going to do that.
  21. I am using a Logitech Webcam and TrackNoIR to implement HeadTracking into DCS World. On the unfortunate side, I'm still trying to arrange an effective hat. I already have some challenges to a brightness based Tracking solution (PointTracker built into TrackNoIR), since I have a white wall that I cannot paint due to housing restrictions. To add to that, the brightness of my monitors depending on what's on the screen can greatly affect the quality of the tracking. Right now, my current hat is literally just a black baseball hat with three large strips of copy paper. in the best conditions, it is perfectly suitable for movement left and right, and forward and backward, but looking upward and downward is not very functional at all. I have two approximately 0.75x1.5 inch strips of copy paper taped to the brim of the hat, and a strip of copy paper of the same size at approximately the forehead. This was the best I could muster at the time, and I really don't want to try anything else without some advice. I was thinking of using Reflective tape on the strips to improve visibility, but I'm not sure whether or not that would work or not. Overall, I'm looking for a baseball hat setup for under about $20 USD, since I don't want to be excessive about it. The hat itself CAN be completely dedicated to he role if need be.
