F16 is easier by far. The systems depth is not even close, like half the stuff is still missing in the F16 and the ones that are modelled are much simpler. On the F18 you have million things more to learn and pretty much every system is more complicated. F18 has much more weapons, some of which are quite complicated to set up and use. All weapons in the F16 are very simple, no need to set up fuzing in the cockpit etc like you have to in f18. Not to mention the hotas controls, dogfight switch and saving pages makes F16 very intuitive and easy to learn and fly, with F18 you have million menus and submenus and most need a mouse click to get to. F16 is also much simpler to fly, you dont need to control flaps, you dont trim for landings or takeoff. I would say its easier to win a guns only dogfight and do low speed manouvering with F18, everything else is easier on F16.

I was just testing different ways to use HARM in F18 and yeah it seems very effective. If i fly F16 i need 2 wingmen with me and a while to triangulate where the radar is until i can point my tpod on it but with the F18 i can just do a TOO handoff and boom, i get a perfect location to slew my tpod on the HUD and see the target on my TPOD. Feels kind of pointless to fly F16 with harm when i can do this, heh. Then ofcourse i can designate it and get a perfect launch zone info by changing to PB. I'm not complaining but this sort of defeats the purpose of flying F16 just for the harms.

On the bright side i guess it is 3.0 with Vulkan or something similiar considering the amount of trouble it is causing

Not realistic? You mean like external views, F10 map, labels, any of the difficulty options in the game, taking off on a taxiway, hot or air starting the plane, landing F15 F16 etc on the carrier, the list goes on forever. I would argue that the exact location of the carrier impacts realism much less than being completely unable to operate from one considering they did do carrier ops to afghanistan.

Will it be possible to put the carrier in the lake, that way we can sort of pretend we would be flying in from the sea?

Mission 11 scoring bug (Spoiler alert)
Grodin replied to Grodin's topic in F-16C Weasels over Syria Campaign
I did it again today and now it worked fine - i guess on my first run the AI bombs just happened to miss their target by accident and hit my targets, this time it worked correctly. Now i let the migs catch me and that worked fine, but i guess i lost 5 points because my wingman shot the other mig down and i only shot one. -
I had to check why i didn't get full points in mission 11 and the scoring seems odd. In the mission it specifically tells me NOT to engage the migs but to run away instead - that is what i did, the migs couldnt catch me and after having them chase me for quite a while they turned away and i was able to finish the mission normally - everything went as expected. The score sheet tells me i should have killed the migs even the script told me to just drag them east, at no point was i allowed to turn in and shoot on them. I guess the mission was supposed to force me to fight the migs, but i reacted fast enough for them to not catch me and some trigger never fired. Second problem with this mission was the ground targets - My wingman (Sword 2-2) seems to have bombed the targets meant for me "Sword 2-1 DMPI 1" and "Sword 2-1 DMPI 2" and the target that was meant for AI "Sword 2-2 DMPI 1" (the one with the big tower and where my waypoint is set at) was left for me. Luckily i noticed the targets meant for me to blow up just before i released my bombs and went for the 2-2 DMPI 1 and according to the dialogue all targets were destroyed.

Do you need to provide specific reason to get the refund? Think i'm getting the Kiowa if i get my f15 refunded.

Creating an empty mission with either coalition being empty will crash the game.

apparent network issues AH64 - Desync information, Video+trackfile
Grodin replied to Killg0re NL's topic in Bugs and Problems
I have a few desync issues also. 1: My friend was flying from the CPG seat when a slight lag spike caused the chopper to jolt a bit, then on my screen all the warnings went off and the engines shut down. It was funny sitting in the pilot seat with a stopped rotor while it was still flying normally.Went on to land and take off again and everything happened with the chooper shut down on my screen. 2: Putting wipers on while my friend was joining the CPG seat, the wipers never turned off on hes screen no matter how much i kept turning the switch. Would seem useful if every single parameter on the chopper would be synced periodically to fix this kind of issues. -

Combined arms store page does state "VR Support not currently available for this module." -
reported Radar View in VR - can't select target
Grodin replied to lwalter's topic in Bugs and Problems
Combined Arms is not compatible with VR if i remember correctly. -
When WSO is flying the tanker will connect but it will never give fuel, it just stays connected without ever starting the refuel. Giving control back to pilot and connecting it refuels fine. Now im not sure if this is intended or a bug since i don't know how the guidance lights work but when WSO is flying the plane the guidance lights under KC135 are wrong for the WSO, it guides the plane too far forward, need to fly very near the rear limit for it to connect.
-
In multiplayer when WSO has the HUD repeater on screen and pilots selects Auto-Acquisition mode the HUD symbology does not appear in the WSO HUD repeater, but in single player it does - seems like a sync issue?
-
Yesterday we had sort of the same issue in multiplayer, we had JDAM and JSOW loaded and when i tried to xfer target from tpod to the JSOW that whole smart weapons page locked up with a boxed transfer button and i was unable to continue the mission. Really ruined the mood after 1 hour of flying to the target, heh.

I'm having trouble finding a layered livery template psd for the F15E, some google links pointing to it but they've been removed and the template page only has one for the old AI F15E. Can anyone point me to it?

unable to reproduce AH 64 D is not playable in VR
Grodin replied to SkYwAlK3R-_'s topic in Bugs and Problems
Cockpit texture size is one issue, 11 gb vram is really pushing it for any module and default apache textures its a no go, thats why the taz texture mod helps alot. DCS VR with 2080ti will require lots of balancing in the settings, MSAA or high pixel density are purely 4080/4090 territory i'm afraid, even 4080 struggles with PD 1.0 and 2x MSAA. Motion reprojection and DLSS surely help with FPS but they totally ruin the image quality so for now anyone who doesnt have 4090 has to deal with either low fps or avarage visuals. I have 4080 and i use 2x MSAA and PD 1.0 and usually get around 60-80 fps which i would call tolerable for some but i know many players would need 90+ to consider it smooth. -
Dissociate mouse pointer from head movement in VR
Grodin replied to AFsparrow1968's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Yes please, a toggle to unlink mouse cursor from head movement in VR. Annoying to try and hold my head absolutely still while hitting buttons. -
Depends on the headset fov and what you are looking at with it. I only lose the cursor in DCS, not other games. White cursor against white clouds (comms window open) or yellow cursor against a sunset at the edge of your peripheral vision can be quite tricky to notice, atleast with high fov when you can't see the whole picture without moving your eyes. Yes i know its easy to find the cursor when you move it around a lot, but thats not the point here.

not planned Easy/Medium/Hard/Realistic refueling options.
Grodin replied to PhantomHans's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Simulators usually are a bit frustrating at first, they are not just plug and play console games. iRacing does not have auto-pit, Arma does not have auto-aim. Certain amount of learning curve is to be expected. Target audience often invests so much time and money to this hobby that when someone wants more hand holding aids you start wondering what they need next when they get to the more challenging parts of the game - someone wants autoland, someone auto takeoff, someone wants dumb bombs to auto hit because they are hard to hit etc etc, it never ends. Well you could look at a track of someone doing AAR within DCS to see what it looks like and you can even take control during any part of the replay to practice keeping the probe in after connection if you want to. -

Player planes only fly themselves to the extent their autopilot is modeled. AFAIK while some of the autopilots can follow a tacan none of the autopilots in the game can automatically match the speed of another plane - you would need to model a new system for the plane to do that. Switching to the AI flight model and letting AI completely control the plane might be easier, but if AI was to take control of the player plane the cockpit would go haywire because the AI flight model doesnt use any of the sensors or inputs from the player cockpit, currently you cant look inside a cockpit of a plane that is flown by AI so there is propably a lot more to code than you would first think. -

Grodin replied to PhantomHans's topic in DCS Core Wish List
My point is even that kind of system would take some serious coding.Having autopilot fly the players plane to the boom or well any specific position other than what the module is already programmed to do is some serious work and every module would have to implement it differently. Its very unlikely the player plane could be autopiloted like an AI plane because the AI flight model that is used for the AI planes to refuel is 100% different to how player planes are controlled. They would have to write a completely new mode to every planes autopilot system. Weeks or months of coding i would guess. Slightly more plausable system would be a trigger zone near the tanker that would refuel the plane when you fly close enough to the tanker, would require some additions to mission editor. But even then my point is if the devs made a poll "What should we code for the next month?" and the poll has options like "Add undo feature to mission editor", "add f16 sniper pod", "finish supercarrier briefing room", "make dedicated server multi threaded", "implement vulcan", "code a smarted sam/iads system", "make a dynamic campaign" etc i would imagine option "easy AAR feature" would not be on top of the poll. Yeah sure some of the backlash you get could be about "only worthy pilots can join my "wohoo i can AAR" club" but i'm sure most people would just like the devs to focus on what they think is most important at the moment and frankly easy AAR is not very high on that list for vast majority of DCS players. -

Grodin replied to PhantomHans's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I'm not saying it would be bad if they could just magically make that kind of option appear without spending time to code it. But they cant and i want devs to focus on things like fixing bugs, adding missing features to the modules, implementing vulcan, improving the AI etc etc which i consider more important. Now the question is how big part of the customers want this or that. There are more pressing matters that affect 99% of players or 70% of players etc and then there are things that maybe 0,5% of players consider important. We can only guess which features are which. -
It has nothing to do with the "sweet spot" - that has not been a thing since like Reverb G2 or such, current headsets are 100% clear all the way from edge to edge, thats not the problem. To get an idea go and touch your monitor with your nose and then move the mouse around when you are inside the cockpit, its tricky to find no matter how clear and hi-res your monitor is. The issue is that VR users have so much larger area to look for the mouse while on motor you are looking at a post stamp in comparison, ofcourse its easy to find because you can see your whole game thru a straw. PointCtrl makes mouse sort of obsolete in dcs but yeah instead of a keybind i would prefer the cursor to auto center when you havent touched the mouse for a few seconds.
