  1. Assuming you are not using "easy comms" option you have PTT Button for VHF and PTT Button for UHF, you need to press one or the other depending which radio you want to use to contact the tower or whoever you want. I don't mean you have to keep pressing it when using AI radio commands but just press it to open the comms menu. It makes a difference which radio button you use to open the comms menu. Also pay atenttion that you can tune the radio to either a preset channel like 1, 2 or 3 for example or manual frequency.
  2. Yeah - unfortunately the way they implemented it in DCS has same issues as MSFS for example, any fast movements will be horribly ghosted, F18 fuel numbers for example and even on highest settings all of these make cockpit very blurry, don't find them usable in VR. There used to be a shader/plugin mod "3dmigoto" or something that allowed FXAA in a way thay only covered things outside the cockpit, that was perfect, but doesnt work anymore. In F16 i cant read any text from the screens and barely any labels without leaning forward with any of these new AA/DLSS/FSR settings but without any AA they are crystal clear. Hoped this would help me go from steady 60 fps to 90 fps with RTX3090 but i guess i just need to start saving for 4090, heh.
  3. In vr the new spots are gigantic. At first i tought i have lots of dark puffy clouds in the horizon but they ended up being these new spots.
  4. Adding DLSS to an old engine and in a way that is actually useful - meaning the cockpit is not affected must be a huge task and i hope ED takes as long as it takes to get it right because proper DLSS implementation seems to be our only hope for great VR performance before we get Vulkan. Thanks for letting us know in advance if there will be a patch or not in advance, i plan to take the whole weekend off to enjoy it when it drops!
  5. Are you misunderstanding him on purpose? Because i completely get what he is saying and thats not it. While the current cockpit might be realistic when playing with high resolution etc there are many occasions where that is not the case and the end result is not that great because stuff in the cockpit is a bit challenging to read even with large screens @4k and max settings. If the player is not very familiar with the cockpit and labels and hes trying to read the labels looking for some buttons as a new pilot with avarage hardware and settings or a vr headset with avarage resolution the experience might not be that great if you have to spend too much time trying to figure out whats written on some label. And maybe some people just like to look at new fresh looking cockpits, now they can. Thats why we have options to turn on and off things we like or don't like - it's not a type rated sim, you can do whatever you enjoy doing with it and it's nobodys business if someone thinks its "correct" or not. No matter how difficult or unpleasant it is we are all still just sitting in front of a computer playing a game and enjoying our time, forcing someone to look at something they don't enjoy seems pointless. Luckily we have this mod and everyone can be happy - those who like it can use it and those who dont like it don't have to use it.
  6. Its night and day also for 3080ti vs 3090 because 3080ti runs out of vram in dcs vr causing it to run poorly.
  7. Interesting i'll try it too when i get home. Very little drop in the real takeoffs indeed.
  8. Do you have enough headwind, is the ship moving? Turn the ship towards the wind like they often are in reality and you might see quite a bit less drop.
  9. Nobody would force you to use the option so yes, everyone would be happy - those who want it can use it and those who dont simply dont use it.
  10. You can fix this with curves - make a custom curve where input of 1 results to output of 3 or 4 or something, that way it automatically skips over the break out force. What you cant fix with curves however is the ~80ms input lag in the F16 module making it feel quite non responsive..
  11. Wonder if some handy modder could just edit the audio file or some config file to turn it down like 50% and everyone would be happy.
  12. Not really, tracks have never been dependable in DCS if you want an exact replay of your flight. Thing is the tracks pretty much never replicate what exactly happened, because track does not really record what happened and where the plane really was, it only records what inputs you made and it will try to replicate your flight based on the inputs alone - often failing in spectacular ways if your track is any longer than maybe a minute or so.
  13. Recent update added damage models to aleppo power plant for example - now it will burn etc but it's still not triggering a destroyed building trigger - very annoying when you cant use map objects as mission objectives :(
  14. I also have the same issue. Maybe 50% of the time when start from the air and select AG radar without doing anything else it crashes. But still it seems random, some times it happens 10 times in a row and rest of the day it works fine.
  15. My DCS now loads very, very fast! Thank you ED! Also stuttering in menus seems to be much better.
  16. VR is getting more and more popular and accessible, eventually VR/AR will likely surpass 2D.
  17. With modern jets you dont really need pedals, twist joystick is fine - but for helicopters, i would start with getting pedals. VKB for example, they are nice for the price. After that i would spend few weeks just doing basic manouvers and hovering. Ka-50 or Ah-64 if you like lots of gadgets and fly-by-wire, huey if you want a more traditional experience.
  18. I could never get trackir to track anywhere near as well as VR headsets do. Playing on 2d screen lacks all the immersion, it's not fun after getting used to VR where it actually feels like being inside a plane, or atleast it looks like it. Nothing can prepare you for what VR feels like until you try it. On the other hand i can run the game maxed out on 4k at like 150fps on a monitor but in VR my 3090 struggles to keep even 60fps and i'd really like it to stay locked at 90 for smooth experience without ghosting, but 3090 can't handle it with 2x MSAA which imo is a must to help with the shimmering and cockpit clarity. And can't use reprojection either, it looks and feels horrible. So yeah i'm just kinda waiting for DLSS to enjoy the game in VR, now i mostly just build and test my missions in 2d.
  19. Atleast in DCS it surely doesn't seem nearly as effective against radar missiles compared to flares against heat seekers, i feel like i should just pick flares and only amraams because even my Aim-9X misses like half the time even against big cargo planes when they pop flares. Amraams on the other hand seem to almost never miss if i shoot it in range.
  20. You could join a beginner friendly squadron, also recommend looking grim reapers videos on youtube they show what bindings you need etc. Many other good channels too like Redkite, Spudknocker, Wags, Growling Sidewinder etc etc. So much easier to learn from video than reading. If you have discord you can chat with other DCS players maybe make a multiplayer server for training.
  21. Damn man, did you have magician installed, no warnings prior? I'm really worried since most of my nvme drives are Samsungs and i've heard maaany going down recently. Feel you, i love them all so much i can't decide which to concentrate on. I like carrier landings but not the F18 HOTAS. Love the F16 HOTAS but hate the short legs and low payload. Love F15 max weight and fuel but hate not having enough smart weapons.
  22. I'd say we are about to reach the golden era when you can combine simpits with VR passthrough so you get 3d vr view outside the cockpit and then passthru image inside the cockpit like you can do with some of the more expensive headsets. And when we get strong enough hardware and stable software that will be the beginning of the golden era i would say. Now it is still in its infancy with borderline barely playable VR, but way way ahead of what we had in 90s. Having absolute 100% realism with the planes systems is completely irrelevant to home sims imo, nobody can tell the small differences unless they fly the jet irl and that is a very small part of the market. Close enough approximations based on public data is fine, things like dynamic campaign and better ai would improve the overall experience more.
  23. And metric is the preferred system even in the US since 1975, but things just take time. However it would be nice if the DCS editor showed both, because many of the planes in the game and aviation in general is still more often in feet.
  24. Looking really good thanks for the updates. Any word on fixing the broken ILS? Edit: Also would really love being able to destroy the map objects during missions, i think many bridges etc are still invincible.
  25. Still bugged. With mouse you can go parking brake -> anti-skid but with hotas bindings you need to go parking brake -> off -> anti-skid. Seems anti-skid position is locked out until go all the way to off first. "anti-skid" position binding does not react unless you are in off position first. Kind of makes no sense because anti-skid is the middle position so you should be able to go just 1 click down from parking brake like you can when clicking with a mouse, no?
