  1. I'll bump this out of my own curiosity. Anyone?
  2. X-65F or TM WH Ok... So I'm thinking of going with the x65f vice the TM. I'm getting ready to build a new rig and don't think I could justify the TM right now. I think it looks better, And the quality is unquestionable, but the x65f has a z axis and costs less. Just thinking out loud here, but what suggestions do you guys have? Running a x52 standard for the past 2 years.
  3. Well I have 4 gigs now. RAM is pretty cheap so I figured it'd up it a notch. A little over 100 bucks for 4 gigs corsair stock. 220 for 8 gigs.
  4. My team controlled a laser mav, from a hog, in AFG. It's useful in that it can target anything, just needs a paint, and it's standoff is excellent for a 65. I would very much like to have them in DCS. Using mavs straight off the tgp would be great.
  5. Goal: excellent DCS/Sim platform at a moderate budget This will be my first attempt at building a PC Case Corsair Obsidian 600T MOBO EVGA P55 FTW Video EVGA Geforce GTX 470 CPU Intel Core i5 680 3.6ghz PSU Corsair TX650 RAM Corsair Dominator 8GB 1600 HDD WD3000GLFS Velociraptor 10000 OS. W7 HomePremium What do you guys think here? Both CPU and Graphics Card are picked with DCS in mind. Sims will be the primary, and almost exclusive, purpose here. Thanks in advance.
  6. I think the C is perfectly suited for what we need these days. CAS has changed significantly with the modern COIN battlefield. Platforms need to be capable of surviving rapid BAI on a modern conventional battlefield against capable AA threats. Recently the requirement has surfaced that they also need precision strike capabilities, long loiter times, and advanced targeting systems. Instead of knocking out tanks in a linear battlefield they are now providing realtime surveillance in a tactical environment, and striking targets within meters of friendly forces on a true asymetric battlefield. Coming from personal experience, the A-10 is different than any other platform in that it will get into the weeds when called upon. Most of our birds, to include rotary wing, will not expose themselves to fire at all. Our more delicate multirole fighters will stay up at 10-15 agl no matter what. The A-10 platform combined with the pilots training and mindset allows for true close support. They still get shot at and hit. Trust me, insurgents have HMGs and in some cases intermediate caliber AA guns and MANPADS.
  7. I was new to sims when I started at 12 years old. My father bought me Falcon AT, and Flight Simulator for our Atari. After 16 years its still a challenge learning new equipment. Thats where the enjoyment is. When you ramp start the first time, when you land the first time, or your first kill is the best part of simming. The feeling of intellectual accopmlishment. Read and learn man. Spend %40 time in the manual, %40 time in the forum, and %20 time in the sim and youll pick it up quickly.
  8. I hear you man. I'm having fun with A-10 now. But losing FC2 compatibility is going to be a loss until we get some more modules. With that said. I'll still be flying BS and FC2 from time to time. Miss my Mig.
  9. TGP is what your looking for. Gotta load out with the lightning pod. This will take some work to learn but is well worth it.
  10. GBU-38 & 31. Read the manual while in active pause so you can take your time and go step by step. Pg 550. It's the easiest of the GBUs IMO. Very accurate. And you don't have to maintain a lase on TGt.
  11. Try the JDAMs. They have a wonderful salty taste.
  12. This bird has a familiar look. Think there some copyright infringement afoot. Lol. It is pretty though. I'd fly it.
  13. Edit: Crap... Sabotaged the thread... My apologies Figured I would throw this out there in the wish list. I would really, really like to see some changes and additions to the AA in DCS. For starters Flak would be awesome. Medium and large caliber AA guns (radar directed possibly) is still in use. It would add an excellent element to the CAS/BAI/Strike side of things. Maybe some ZSU-57-2's. Russia may not use them but other post Soviet countries still do. Some more intermediate caliber weapons (like ZQ-1's). Ive noticed DCS A-10C has improved AA. ZU-23's will not engage, or will be wildly inaacurate, when at night. Unless you forget to kill the nav lights lol. But I want to see mass amounts of unaimed AA fire arcing through the sky a la Iraq I. Again I think this would add an excellent element to the series.
  14. Is it just me... Or is anyone else vulching this forum for porn from someone who has been flying already?
  15. Update: Pretty interesting actually. Setiing affinity to two cores seems to work. Three or four causes CTD's. No idea what would cause this.
  16. Ok... Just got back from a long deployment. Updated DCS-BS and got LOFC2, Very happy. Put Windows 7 on my PC. Ive been having CTD's at random but every time I fly. Tried a million different things but it turns out that im having the same problem that I had w/ XP. More than one core set as affinity and a sure CTD every time. So, an obvious fix and not too much trouble. My question is has anyone else heard of this issue? and is there a way to solve it? Also is there a way to disable the the automated set affinity to all processors w/o uninstalling the patch? Thanks guys.
  17. OK... The #1 ultimate rule of this simulator. Greed = KIA No matter what, if you start getting trigger happy you will die every time. I learn this lesson about 15 times a day when I am on. Keep your head on a swivel and dont push it.
  18. The trick is not to taxi. If your going to land off of a paved surface than minimize any lateral movement and touch down with 0 speed. If you have to taxi off pavement than use a little collective to reduce the load on the undercarriage. Practice this and it works. Also be real gentle when landing on uneven ground. Touch the wheels down and slowly add load to them by smoothly reducing collective.
  19. Got mine direct from "The Fighter Collection". Shipping was very quick considering the distance. Im very impressed. Great work. A plethera of knowledge. Looks like a field manual but reads alot better. ED is setting the example with all there work. Thank you.
  20. Just checked last night. Using XP and Geforce 8800 GT x 2 SLI. My SLI visual indicator showed nothing. From what I can tell it was a no go.
  21. Are you using rudder pedals or a joystick button? Sounds like you may have to reverse the command. I had a similar issue with my pedals... The handle should be "squeezed" to apply brake pressure.
  22. Welcome to the flying circus.
  23. You may also want to try this... From time to time when I have multiple soft targets at close range (trucks, infantry, etc.) I will put the HMS to good use as a gunsight. Select you cannon and while in cannon mode hold down the key you use to slew your shkval on target with the HMS (O I believe). If you have Track IR just look at your target and engage. Works well when you get used to it. It also saves some steps when your done with one target and want to re-engage another.
