  1. Like I said it all depends on the threats encountered. If theyre predominantly MANPADs or AA ill stay confortably high (and fast) at 300 to 500 meters. This usually gives me a small buffer zone to detect and counter enemy fires. This is while cruising. Once I near the engagement area ill take one of two courses of action. Ill either maintain high and fast and probe the area in my first run on the target. Ill be able to get a good sight picture of the area, all active threats, and targets. I like the altitude b/c it also gives me the option to evade using an immelman like maneuver. Turning 180 degs quickly while dumping altitude, masking, and building speed. Or if I know the area is real hot (as we all enjoy making them in the editor) ill creep in low flying from cover to cover scanning the area vigorously.
  2. Same-same. I use autohover only to get a new beer or some other admin function. I try to adapt to the threat at hand. In the campaign i usually fly high and avoid low level threats. This also gives a much greater survivability rate against MANPADs and/or wire guided missles. I find the threats in the campaigns to be realistic to what a Ka-50 pilot would experience in RW. On the servers it usually becomes a hide and seek game. Usually between me and the Patriot missles or SA-13's
  3. Ok sorry mate. Your right... should have said RTM instead lol. A good idea with gaining a lock on target while on the move is to lock something near it (enter) to stabalize the shkval. It will lock on the piece of terrain instead of "free floating", thann you can adjust accordingly.
  4. Shkval autoscan does just what you described. There is not auto-lock feature. The shkval is an electro-optical TV that requires the pilot to manually designate a target. Once designated the shkval will track the target via contrast. Autohover requires you to be nearly in a haver before engaging. Ensure all AP channels are enabled. With the FP button off. Transistion to a hover or at least less than 10 km/hr movement in any direction with a stable altitude and than engage auto hover. Its more of a hover hold. You should practice selecting targets while on the move. Hovering on the battlefield is usually a bad idea. Learn how to trim properly to establish stable flight and than use the HMS to get your sights in the area of the target. Than slew and desinate. In other words RTFM. Also... check out the directors notes videos on the DCS webpage. Good luck.
  5. Search the forum. Plenty of discussion on this topic. Although it would be nice the modeled version of the Ka-50 is not so equipped. I would not call it a necissity. If you fly below 300m theres a good chance the missiles hitting you are not radar guided but laser/wire/ir guided. Like I said, poke around the forum and you'll find more.
  6. Good films thanks for sharing.
  7. Maybe a stupid question... But does anyone know if a laptop can be used as a second monitor? Similar topic... This may be FAR fetched but I was thinking, no dreaming, of the possibility of an offset piece of software for a second PC that allows a second monitor capability (it-23, abris, etc) as well as taking up the load on your cpu. Linked via LAN maybe. Just a thought.
  8. Thanks for the pics... Always impressive. Check this one out. Bad day all day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28tRJ8hY5mc

  10. Boy thats a letdown, I thought it would be a RWR/ECM/IR Jammer/FLIR that improves framrate. J/k Thanks for the info evil, some of you guys amaze me.
  11. Got your back... Top panel is the X52 adapter. The blacked out box is a nudie pic.
  12. Coming from a life long thrustmaster guy who just bought the X52, the X52 aint that bad. Albeit the only reason I got it is b/c it was available in the store and I needed a new stick bad. I will be "upgrading" though to either the 52 pro or back to thrustmaster with the cougar. I also have Saitek pedals, pro flight yoke, and pro flight throttle quad. All work quite well. No issues 1+ years.
  13. Judging by the pictures age... That guy is probably in charge of alot of people now.
  14. I have mine mapped to both pedals, though not in reverse, and it works very well. You only have to press one pedal to brake, but pressing both feels more natural and wont develop bad habits for when im flying RW. :pilotfly:
  15. Updated mission top in first post.
  16. Will adjust accordingly. Thanks for the feedback. Update on the way... tomorrow anyways.
  17. Though not as talented as some of these other mission creators, this one came out well. Simple armored convoy attack with forward observer support. Let me know what you think. ***Break, Break, Updated mission loaded. Changed start time to 0600 and made messages 15 secs in length Amtkel Valley.miz
  18. ??? Try binding some of the keys to your flight stick and try again. I cant figure out how it would work in the tutorial and not in a mission.
  19. Maybe NaturalPoint (a fine company IMO) has stolen their own program and now actually uses FreeTrack now which allows them to sell their products at a lower cost. :music_whistling::megalol:
  20. Thats nothing new... If you go on a multiplayer server thats all you see at the farp. Except the rotor blades dont stay attached. lol
  21. Nothing on the Logitech site nor any of its links.
  22. I hear you man. One of the things that makes this sim so good is the excellent international community that comes with it. As far as hovering gos the best way to practice is to set up a clean (no weapons) bird with little fuel. Slowly lift off the ramp vertically about 5 meters and try to hold that spot. Too much emphasis is put on the auto hover in my opinion. Good old stick and rudder always knows best.
  23. Correct. Vikhrs can only be loaded on the outboard hardpoints. The Vikhr mounting arm is what moves and not the hardpoint. When rockets are loaded on either inboard or outboard hardpoints they are entirely stationary.
