  1. What's the path from v1.5.7? 1.5.7 -> 1.5.8 -> 2.5, or will 2.5 release also upgrade from 1.5.7?
  2. Need some altitude clear of terrain for good adf signal read. Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk

    Sim racing

Go the triple screen, the peripheral view will really help in close quarters. G27 wheel or better & throw in a button box. I've spent a fair bit of money & time on iRacing. The safety penalty system is a pain, but would never race AI again.
  4. Can someone explain to me why I should be excited about this map? Is it purely for Red Flag type missions? Online Multiplayer? This is not a criticism, but it just seems an odd one to pursue compared to the other possible maps that could've been developed to suite the likes of the F86/Mig15 and the WW2 era aircraft. Cheers, SMan
  5. Bugger, thanks guys.
  6. To make models for DCS, does one have to use 3DS Max or will something like Blender work? I saw some mention of plugins, etc for 3dsmax somewhere else, does that mean without similar addins/tools for Blender it can't be used?
  7. Can't believe we don't have an F-16 yet. Such an iconic aircraft, getting a second life around many other air forces around the world now. My vote is for the Falcon.
  8. I prefer quality over quantity.
  9. For those of you not married yet, get all your hardware first!
  10. Hahaha, love it, can totally relate. But man, round down to the nearest hundred at least. I like to smuggle things in and then go the old, "what, that old thing? I've had that for ages"
  11. That is good news.
  12. I've noticed my logbook is showing zero for everything under the Mi-8 tab, and I've flown about 20 missions in the Spring Tension campaign :(
  13. That sinking feeling... Oooh, chills. Great model that Mi-8, and with the campaign that comes with it, never thought simple transport missions could be so enjoyable. Especially when you also get to engage the enemy from time to time. Makes you appreciate why this heli has been such a big hit with many airforces around the world. Such a workhorse, just stay clear of AAA. Enjoy!
  14. Sigh, after waiting for the other choppers to take out the threat for what seemed like an eternity, I decided I would take care of business myself. So flew to the nearby FARP, got me some rocket propelled projectiles of pain and BOOM! "103 you're cleared for pick up."
  15. Hahaha! Crazy.
  16. Love the t-shirt man.
  17. I've only flown the Blackshark and Mi-8 as far as helis go in DCS and found both to be easier to fly than helis in FSX. If you have rudder pedals that's great, but use those with the joystick. I have a CH Yoke, and it's not good for heli nor fighters. You will spend a while learning cold start, take off and landings, using the trim and autopilot. Then move onto getting up to speed with nav systems and finally the weapons systems, one at a time. I found I enjoy flying them without even pulling the trigger, when you go weapons free and have AA projectiles of all sorts coming at you, that's when the heart rate really goes up...for me at least :) It might seem overwhelming at first, but just tackle it in stages and you'll be fine. Doing one thing on its own is not difficult, putting all things together in a mission and coming back in once piece is where the satisfaction comes in.
  18. +1 Long overdue.
  19. I'm finding it a real challenge too, even though I've tried to take a structured approach to the whole thing, i.e. learning startup, taxy, take off and land procedures for a couple of days, then moving onto just using the guns in it's various modes followed by other weapons systems and modes (still getting a handle on weapons). I'm using a combination of manual, producer's notes videos and this forum to help me get a handle on things. For me, the complexity and difficulty is part of the challenge and fun. Having said that, I've had moments of frustration and confusion too, when you think you're doing the right thing, and everything is under control, then you change something and it all falls apart. In that situation it is back to the resources mentioned above to double check everything and more often than not I find a solution or the correct procedure. I've also got a custom mission where I add variety of targets and threats to practice on. I've had the sim for a week now and have not flown a proper mission yet nor have I started a campaign. I wondered if a training type Campaign would be possible though, where each mission introduces a new aspect of the operation of the BS. Still have a long long way to go, but that's been my experience and feel a great sense of satisfaction when I get a part of the BS worked. I think baby steps is the key. Cheers, SMan.
  20. I'd like an Mi-24 Hind :)
