1. black shark is the first helicopter sim i have ever studied. i'm a serious fan of the falcon, but now i'm changing my mind about what's the most attractive type of aircraft. i like their ability to maneuver in small places. it's more challenging to me.
2. yeah, i'm not saying it's graphics don't look good. they do. but you know what i was trying to say. bs is nothing in terms of graphics compared to crysis, for example. my machine runs crysis at max settings 1680x1050 at ~40 fps. it drops to ~30 or ~25 sometimes, but only on huge and intensive effects scenes. black shark does not have such geometry, hi-res textures and special effects as crysis does, so i thought it would be a matter of fine tunning their engine. it would be great if the game could support more than 2 cores and maybe sli in the long run. do you know if it uses physx?
3. support for more than 2 cores and sli/crossfire please!
4. yeah, the graphics in the game are dated comparing to today's titles. but we love dcs for what it is, not what it looks like. and to that, ED must improve multicore support. after all, almost everyone is playing this on a dual or quad core.
5. alright, but surely he's still feeling bad.
6. lol, when i read the title and the first lines of your post, i thought you would be complaining about something.
7. more than that, enabling/disabling sli makes no difference.
8. now i'm sad, 'cause i discovered something using prifinnity... 1. run the game. 2. waiting to takeoff on the runway, fraps says ~30 fps. 3. get back to desktop and set affinity with processors 0 and 2. 4. return to game, fraps now says ~40 fps. 5. get back to desktop and set affinity with processors 0, 1, 2 and 3. 6. return to game, fraps still says ~40 fps. the game will not support 4 cores. anyone confirm that?
9. maybe you have ppjoy, glovepie, or something else running... do you use the cougar in "buttons and axis emulation" mode?
10. yeah, multicore is not native, but can be achieved through pryffinity or just by setting the processor affinity in the task manager (for dcs.exe). i managed to get a 60% fps gain in doing that. search the forum. you'll find the thread. EDIT: but it seems like the game is only CPU intensive, not GPU.
11. hi all, one thing i like to do after flying the black shark is saving and watching the replays (if they're worth watching). it's a way for me to take a second look at my mishaps and see what i can improve. so, i thought maybe we could build up a cheap youtube like thread here in which we would post our track files along with descriptions of what we were trying to achieve. along with the "flight controller position indicator" (RCTRL + ENTER), this could be used by the community to learn some tricks by watching them live. i'll not publish anything for now, but as soon as i have something interesting (a maneuver or anything funny), i'll do it. please let me know your opinion. later!
12. does it have problems with sli? i can't notice any difference. i'm running nvidia 790i, q9450 @ 2.66, 4gb ddr3 ram, 2 x 8800 gt, vista 32. also, i noticed that the game runs the same fps without anti-aliasing or with 16x quality aa enabled. strange, uh?
13. i don't know if you already did that, but the axis configuration is in a separate category under options..controls. if you drop-open the "category" combo-box, you'll see that category in red (named "axis commands"). the controls in that category are not show in the "all" category. also, make sure you roll the grid to the right to be able to see all your available controllers, 'cause they don't fit in a single screen. hope it helps in some way.
14. thanks diveplane, for that tip on saving the modified track. it would be nice to have a system for playback like that of f4af. i mean one with playback and view controls, aircraft trajectories, etc. maybe ED will implement something like that in the future.
15. yeah, strange... my g25 has the following axes: throttle = z clutch = slider brake = roll i don't know why, but we have to guess it sometimes. :smilewink:
16. maybe naturalpoint is supporting dcs development. could be as simple as that.
17. right, but will they enhance the manual to the point of it becoming a real flight/pilot manual? i mean to the same level as the falcon has, for example, which explains the properties of their aircraft using graphs and the like? that's what's missing in their manual.
18. hi, tried using the forum search, but got nothing on this. i don't know if it's classified information, but do you know if kamov has published anything on the black shark, most importantly it's flight manual (i mean for the real pilots). as anyone here, i would be very pleased with this kind of information, 'cause all the things i'm learning come from the "reference" manual that came with dcs, some publishings on helicopter flight dynamics (books, flight school manuals, articles, etc.) and by following this forum's discussions. thanks in advance!
19. hey, i'm reading that canadian flight training manual, just to get acquainted with the basics, and found this snippet on lesson 3: TAIL ROTOR PEDALS The purpose of the pedal controlled tail rotor is to counteract the torque effect of the main rotor, to control the heading of the helicopter during hovering flight, and to initiate turns while in the hover. It is not, however, used to control the heading while in cruise flight, but only to compensate for torque. This puts the helicopter in longitudinal trim so as to maintain co-ordinated flight (Figure 3-3 refers). Some helicopters have a ‘ball’ to assist you to keep in co-ordinated flight. This is a simple spirit level device, if the ball is deflected to the right, apply right pedal until the ball centres and vice versa. http://www.tc.gc.ca/civilaviation/general/flttrain/planes/Pubs/TP9982/Exercise3.htm so, in single-rotor helicopters, the pedals should not be used while at speed because they are, in reality, anti-torque pedals, commanding an anti-torque rotor. but the ka-50 doesn't need anti-torque pedals. it has a rudder like fixed-wing aircrafts do. so, in my opinion: 1. if you apply the LEFT pedal, the chopper should turn LEFT. 2. you MAY use the pedals to control the heading while at speed (keeping level flight, if desired), as in a fixed-wing aircraft. i don't know if the discussion was already established for you guys, but i would like to hear your opinions about that comparison.
20. nice thought.
21. just for the sake of irrelevantly comparing oranges and apples for the last time, 1. i know microsoft office is the best software to work with microsoft's format. 2. i know openoffice works, is legal and is cheaper. 3. don't blame openoffice for developing their software, 'cause they're not criminals. 4. don't blame anyone who's using openoffice, 'cause they're not criminals either. 5. i will continue to use openoffice as long as i don't have enough money to buy microsoft's solution. 6. i'll buy microsoft's when i have the money, 'cause i know they're the best. 1. i know trackir is the best software/hardware to work with trackir interface. 2. i know freetrack works, is legal and is cheaper. 3. don't blame freetrack for developing their software, 'cause they're not criminals. 4. don't blame anyone who's using freetrack, 'cause they're not criminals either. 5. i will continue to use freetrack as long as i don't have enough money to buy naturalpoint's solution. 6. i'll buy trackir when i have the money, 'cause i know they're the best. thank you sir. sorry for taking your time. i'll spend mine on that ka-50 right there! good time talking to you. see ya!
22. so, still talking about oranges... what would openoffice do if microsoft encrypted the latest msword document format? they would have 2 choices: 1. try to figure out a way to read, edit and save in that format (which is not illegal) or 2. just quit (which is not what they're here for). so, getting back to apples, do you think openoffice guys are nothing but half ass posers? as with the msword format, trackir has a large number of users. as with the openoffice license, freetrack is free. what that bunch of half ass posers want is to offer a way to interface people who don't want to spend a lot of money on a thing that can be free (including hardware at low cost) with games that are helping a monopoly business (as the oranges case we were talking about). i know one thing for sure - time is telling us that it's not illegal (in both oranges and apples cases).
23. you mean approaching something in spiral? that sounds simple to say and try, but a pain to achieve. i'm trying this to land the chopper every single day. when i get it right, it rocks! otherwise, the ka turns into 50 pieces...
24. from their site: "FreeTrack can output head tracking data directly using TrackIR™, SimConnect and FSUIPC interfaces, programs that support these interfaces are regarded as having FreeTrack support." i'm not. how does openoffice handle documents in the latest msword format? it tries to interpret and use that format. so, what's being stolen in both cases??? ...check. :smilewink:
