  1. Unfortunately, what your video demonstrates is not universally true. Even around airfields, there are places you can do that and places that you can’t. It varies from map to map and airfield to airfield. Some are far more forgiving than others.
  2. Last I knew, the decoupling mod did not actually decouple the winds in the flight, only on the static weather tab. It looked decoupled until you flew the mission and discovered that it wasn’t. Has that changed?
  3. To expand a bit on Volator’s answer, fuel quantity “P” on the left is the total fuel quantity. “T”, on the right, is fuel remaining in the feeder tank. When that starts going down, you’d better be close to home.
  4. How to do it is detailed in the manual. If you don’t know where to find it on your hard drive, there’s a link for it in the thread below this:
  5. Isn’t 157 kn somewhere close to best rate of climb speed for that airframe? Just wondering.
  6. The other thing I do is delete the “fxo” and “metashaders2” folders in Saved Games whenever I update the sim or my graphics drivers. Otherwise I sometimes have extremely long load times. The first load time after that can be long because the shaders have to be recompiled but subsequent load times go quickly.
  7. Hopefully, it’ll be fixed well before then.
  8. FWIW, I made no changes to my settings before using the map. No problems here. OTOH. the first thing I did was disable the Launcher.
  9. None that I’ve found…
  10. AFAIK, it’s still not available for use in the sim. It’ been in the encyclopedia for awhile.
  11. My preference would be the ability to save anytime you want but that’s me. “Saving” is a great learning tool as in “how could I have done that better?” The benefit would be that you restart with the same parameters each time. It also helps in testing for the same reason.
  12. It’ll be nice to get this back. ED gave it to us once over a decade or two ago. But, then, it was removed. People were complaining that it was a cheat.
  13. I did consider the rest. I chose to ignore it because what you’re really saying is that people made an assumption. Yes, it sucks that people didn’t get what they assumed they were getting. Did ED purposely invite that assumption? I don’t know. But, like you suggested, perhaps people won’t make that mistake again.
  14. “Most complete of the three”. True. Will “receive some updates post-release”. Also true. “For all intents and purposes feature complete”. Ditto. I doubt they’ll be adding a tremendous amount of new features. I should hope not. ED is no different from any other company that owns a niche. They put out a decent product overall. Not a great one. Their strength lies in mimicking systems in the cockpit. They are hard to beat in that regard. Elsewhere, not so much.
  15. I still don’t understand how anyone could think that an ED early access map could be anything other than what was released. Early access could not possibly be “feature complete” in the sense that most users interpreted it. That alone should have been a clue. Plus, as you stated, the fact that it wasn’t given to content creators to preview, should have been yet another clue. All in all, what people are most upset about is that their enthusiasm got the better of them. In life, I’ve found that it’s best to tone down your expectations and be pleasantly surprised, when they’re exceeded. Reality normally glitters much less than the hype. This map has great potential. We’ll just have to wait and see what comes. Personally, I think ED will eventually make this map enjoyable for most, but not all, of us. For now, anyone who bought it in early access, got a nice price break…which is why I bought it in the first place.
  16. I had, so far, only viewed this map from jets at low altitude and enjoyed every flight. The SW portion is fairly stark and devoid of much detail. It’s definitely not the place to make your first flight but the rest of the map is fun. Last night, I took up my only helo for a spin. I still enjoyed the flight, though not as much, and agree that there is far more time to spot things and think: “Wait! What?” And, then, focus on them for far longer after that. Fewer glaring “eyesores” and more detail would have been preferable. That being said, however, I’m aware that the Afghanistan map will be roughly 3 times bigger than the map so many point to as the gold standard, Syria. So I’m wondering if Afghanistan’s sheer size will limit how much detail can be included for the “rotor heads” and that’s not even taking the Combined Arms crowd into consideration. Afghanistan may end up not being a map for everyone, though ED would like it to be.
  17. That my computer can handle…
  18. Sorry. Missed that it was the Instant Action. There is no load out listed. The rest of what I said is valid—almost. I should have been more specific. When I said A2A, I should have added Boresight (the 6 key). That’s the only A2A mode available for the A-10.
  19. You have 2 AIM-9Ms an your wing. When you select A2A, you can hear the seeker tone and there's a new circle on the HUD. Put that circle over the target. Other than that, you have your gun. The loadout for that mission is listed in the briefing screen for the mission. The Aim-9Ms also show green (selected) on the weapons panel, when you select A2A.
  20. Have you checked the manual?
  21. The cue of is filled things I’m constantly being “reminded” about in that list, FC3 among them. FC3 is gone. That “nag” will be removed at some point. Just ignore it and go on with life.
  22. Aren’t each aircraft’s manual in their respective “Doc” folder? Your DCS Installation/Mods/aircraft/…
  23. IDK. I’ve only had time for one low level flight so far. Started at Bost and headed up toward Tarinkot (just SW of it) and a bit toward Shindad before turning north in the direction of Chaghcharin. Ran out of playtime before reaching it, though. I was flying WP to WP, rather than following terrain features and that might make some difference. The towns in the vicinity of Bost look much like they do in satellite imagery I’ve seen as do others along my route. All in all the flight was enjoyable. The most jarring thing for me were the trees (color and size) in the mountains near the large lake/reservoir along my route. The rest of it was enjoyable enough.
  24. Something to read:
  25. Forests actually make it a bit easier to hide transitions. Also, Kola is being done in a single piece. Afghanistan is being worked on as three. Obviously you have your view of what the map should already look like and I have mine.
