TrackIR tip for less annoying behavior
Wichid replied to wolfstriked's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I only use snap view for gun runs as per my blog -
Yep - crosswind means one wing is getting more lift which is tipping you to one side (IIRC). I correct with aerilons and rudder, but I'm not sure if thats by the book. Keeping yourself lined up in a crosswind landing approach is what I find the most challenging. I use ILS to keep myself on track. @Wolfstiked, I think im just lazy - if i need to slow down and then turn I wheel brake one wheel and it achieves both =) I'm probably just being lazy though.

TrackIR tip for less annoying behavior
Wichid replied to wolfstriked's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Track-IR is awesome. The pro clip has a noticeable improvement as the sensor can pick up the active LED's very easily. You just need to set your curves right so you can look around the entire cockpit with minimal head movement. If you can't then increase the curves but leave a nice deadzone so it locks onto the centre view smoothly. TIP: Increase the height of the curves for X&Y movement so it's fast. I also reduce the smoothing so it's nice and snappy, not all floaty as it is at 50% smoothing. In the calibration i check that I can easily look around to 180 degrees and up and down about 60 degrees without too much hassle. I also set my Z axis so i can zoom in enough on the MFD's. -
Yep this is what I do every mission too. Except this one where I was out of ordinance so went in with guns.

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
Wichid replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
We can keep wishing but ED wouldn't announce the next release for many reasons, none of which they would want to actually express to us. Some random examples: Current sales can drop off: People will stop buying whats currently out in anticipation of the new thing. Competition: They may not want to tip off the competition to come out with a half baked similar product. The specs they are a chang'n: Some companies have concurrent development so depending on what comes to fruition first will determine what the next module is. (Will the carrier ops be a working proof of concept before the two seater with ground radar proof of concept? Or shall we fall back on a third option?) Green light: Some combination of complications may lead ED to not be confident enough to confirm the features and they don't want to be called liars when a spec changes. ie. What desktop trainer contracts allow us to tie in a new module? -
I use pedals so often use differential braking when landing and taxiing. It's a great way to steer during landing before you can use the nose wheel steering.

I got X-Plane 10 and haven't really spent any time learning it yet. Out of the box it didn't look that great for me though so I immediately jumped back into DCS A-10C. I try and learn it over the Xmas break.

Cool that should sort me out! Thanks guys. I didn't know of the NVG gain setting so that's a big help. I was fully loaded for that mission so wouldn't have really wanted to carry illumination rockets. (does sound like fun though!).

Mmm my other main problem was that it was too dark to see them without night vision and with night vision it was bloomed out and too bright.

Hi guys, It seems my weakness is being shot down by AAA whilst doing gun runs. If I get shot down it’s usually AAA from an armoured vehicle. I ran in on 3 BMP’s at about 4am. I started my run from about 14,000ft so it was a pretty steep fast dive. These guys seem pretty deadly accurate at the same range that I engage. They are pretty easy to destroy so I was thinking I should try breaking off further away. I usually engage at about .9 of a mile. Maybe 2 miles? It was a long campaign mission and all our other munitions were expended. Should I have checked out and rearmed instead of doing the gun run on BMP’s? Sorry no track but any suggestions are appreciated.

Yep egress and call SEAD!

At least Valve time is better than 3D Realms time!

The runway is 125 degrees I believe which is rounded to Runway 13. It's a great easy system to figure out which way to go to takeoff and land!
-
I use it for airfield info on the divert page.

Yeah the PAC stabilizes the plane against nose up whilst firing. I dont think i could destroy a mbt without it.
-
PAC stabilizes the plane to focus on where the gun sight is pointing when it's engaged by pressing trigger stage one. A two stage trigger is pretty important to me. Maybe check out x52 pro or non pro.

I blogged recently about gun runs with a corrected snap view. Highly recommended. http://mildlyalert.wordpress.com/2011/11/25/gun-runs-in-dcs-a-10c-brrrrrrrrrrrrrr/

I put a quick video guide together for using the new CBU-97 with a HoF of 1800ft in CCIP: Manual release. http://mildlyalert.wordpress.com/2011/11/26/dcs-a-10c-cbu-97-employment-in-patch-1-1-10/

If you get frustrated whilst learning play a mission that uses a JTAC =) They will point you right onto targets so you don't need to hunt so much. Of course you'll still need to hunt for threats etc.

triple head 3d will definitely need some graphics grunt! Make a youtube video of your performance when you get a chance. it would be great to see.

I use the 580. 1.5gb vram is optimal for those chips. CPU power is more important. I'm not sure you'll get much out of all this SLI stuff, just get a reasonable water cooler and overclock your CPU a bit. I use a single monitor with trackir plus an extra monitor in portrait for reading web pages etc & an ipad. I hope 3D support comes one day.

Building a new flying machine... could use any advice
Wichid replied to Speed's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I use a corsair all in one water cooler and overclock my slightly older i7.Right now I've stepped back to 3.9Ghz since it was occasionally bluescreening. I don't think I worked out the power settings properly. -
I've never really seen the need for auto lasing. I think it comes down to laziness in setting the profile up. I just pinky switch at about 14 seconds to fire the laser. I guess I'm not so leet.

What do you do whilst flying straight and level with the autopilot on? Read book? alt tab to youtube?

Just wait until you're flying over Las Vegas looking for your least favourite casino.
