  1. Alright, thanks, I'll give it a shot.
  2. I was wondering how hard it would be to edit an existing campaign to change the time of day. I was wanting to change a few of the missions in the Huey campaign to night time for some more NVG flight. Is it a just a matter of changing the time of day in the brief, or will it screw up all of the timing for the AI units?
  3. Awesome, thanks EvilBivol.
  4. Not to just echo what Sondo is saying, but as a helo pilot, and someone who loves this sim, I must express again (3rd time this thread I believe) that whatever way you push the cyclic, that is the way the disc is tilted. If you don't believe that, go read 'Heelicopter: Pioneering with Igor Sikorsky.' The pains Uncle Igor went through with gyroscopic precession are explained thoroughly in detail. Basically, when the first few flights with the VS-300 (IIRC) were attempted, gyroscopic precession was causing the disc to tilt left when the cyclic was displaced forward, and aft when displaced left, and so on. The aircraft went whatever direction the disc was tilted, not the direction the controls were moved. This being very counterintuitive, the A/C designers displaced the input from the swashplate to the rotor blades so that the disc would tilt the direction the cyclic was displaced, solving the problem and making the aircraft much easier to fly. I'm sure this was just a mistake in the update, and will be remedied in a future update, but I just don't want to see this lauded as a feature, and possibly kept around.
  5. That looks like 90 degrees to me. They are definitely not lined up underneath and parallel to the rotor blades. Anyway, like I said, I haven't tried it, and won't be able to until after the holidays, but if you push the cyclic forward, and the disc tilts left, that is wrong.
  6. I definitely like the option it provides. IRL, it depends on the pilot-in-command's (PC) preferences, but it's not uncommon that the PC will have the other pilot fly while he manages the mission (ie, navigation, systems/weapons/mission equipment monitoring, radio calls). The problem with our autopilot is that you have to take the controls every once in awhile to get yourself on the right track instead of just hitting the co-pilot upside the head and telling him where to go ;). In combat, the more experienced pilot will usually fly when the maneuver to be flown is going to be more advanced. In our case, that's everything except straight and level. I've tried using the orbit feature a couple of times, but haven't found it to be too useful. I would never orbit over a target that can shoot back, so I've never needed to use anything but straight and level if I wanted to switch to a different crew station to shoot, or to sit in place and adjust system switches. It would be cool if there were commands to have the autopilot turn, or follow the flight plan or something, but it seems like it would either have to be highly simplified, which might make navigation too easy, or there would be too many commands and it would be extremely hard and time consuming to use. Either way, if they add to it, cool, if they leave it the way it is, I'm happy. It's still a great module, and one of the most realistic helo sims out there.
  7. The real Huey does not have an autopilot. BST is just trying to simulate having a co-pilot.
  8. Haven't had a chance to try the update, but if this is true, it's definitely wrong in the sim. The controls are offset 90 degrees on the swashplate to compensate for phase lag, but the end result is transparent to the pilot. The tip path tilts the same direction as where the cyclic is displaced.
  9. I think I voted for an H-60 somewhere about 30 pages ago...but, again, H-60. In fact, any flavor of H-60, as long as it doesn't have the old SH-60B tail wheel, and has a conventional Hawk tailwheel. The cockpit/systems would probably be the deciding factor on which model could be developed. It would probably be hard to do an MH-60 DAP, as the material required to do the cockpit and systems would be pretty hard to come by. A UH would be easy, but I'm sure people might get bored with the only options being assault and MEDEVAC. An M model might be hard to do as well, as the glass cockpit setup might be hard to get right in the sim, but would be pretty cool if it could be pulled off.
  10. Okay, not trying to bump my own thread, but I'm still having this problem. I've tried switching back to just one full screen setup, and it seems to be a problem with DCS since the 1.2.6 update, and not a setup problem on my computer, as that is exactly how I had it setup in 1.2.5.
  11. Maybe I'm old, but when I think of arcade, I think of this: Flaming Cliffs is actually something I've only recently gotten into, after I started learning DCS A-10C actually. I'd have to say I'm enjoying both at the same time. ED is just trying to appeal to a variety of simmers...we'll get a multi-role jet when it's ready. I'm pretty sure they're not sitting around like this... Edit: Sorry, my embedding skills are nonexistent...
  12. I'm guessing it doesn't, which is why icing acts the way it does.
  13. That's what I said, just in my own way I guess.
  14. That must be what I forgot...I find icing in DCS to be a little unrealistic. In my experience (flew in Germany for about 5 years), icing rarely happens in the clear, but you can definitely encounter icing in DCS without being in visible moisture. When I flew this mission with the 8, I didn't turn on anti-icing for the engine since I never went into the clouds, but I remember this being an issue in the Ka-50 while playing its campaign as well.
  15. I have the throttle mapped to an axis, and just roll it to idle when I want to do a power off auto ( in 1.2.5). @ methluckydonut: I haven't tried it in game, but is that really how it works? The stop on the throttle is called an 'idle stop' because it stops you from going below idle, and accidentally shutting off the engine. It shouldn't be keeping the engine at fly power...
  16. Cool, thanks, I'll give it another try.
  17. Anyone tried the Huey's Elbrus mission with this thing? I just dropped it in and gave it a shot. I looked all through the Mi-17 manual that came with it, but couldn't find a performance chart that told me a ball park max rate of climb...anyway, I used about 100kmh. With only 25% fuel, I couldn't seem to reach the summit like I could with the Huey. In fact, twice, I seemed to run out of control authority in the pitch axis, causing the helo to tumble backwards, and spin down into a dive. I was able to recover, but climbing past about 5000m wasn't an option. Altimeter was set to 670...not sure what standard is.
  18. I guess I should have said "good" flight engineer...;) Anyway, you're right, they don't start engines, and it's the PC's ultimate responsibility for the other stuff you mentioned.
  19. Yeah, most people say 'two two five point seven-five on uniform', or just 'two two five point seven five.' Looking at a frequency, you should know right away which radio it is, though. Uniform is going to be all of your 225 and above freqs, victor will be 118 and above freqs, and all of your xx.xx radio frequencies are on the FM radio. This explains it a little better than me: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airband Oh yeah, on topic, I would love to have a night time based campaign. I thought of doing a campaign where a special group was supposed to hunt down high value targets in South Ossetia, and were given Hueys so as to not be able to tie things back to the originating government, with most missions happening at night with infils and exfils into villages, and onto city rooftops. The player could alternate between performing the infils and exfils, and providing gunship support. I tried to start this in the mission editor, but my lack of experience slowed me down, and quite frankly, it seemed a little daunting.
  20. Got it, and love it. Fun Instant UH-1.trk
  21. Same here
  22. It should have an optional drop down menu to select a different joystick button.
  23. I wanted a ship spot on an aircraft carrier, but this was as close as I could get on the instant action.
  24. Not bad for the first try I don't think...but that opposite translating tendency and torque affect is screwing with my head...the Russians had to do it different, didn't they?
  25. No one else having this problem?
