You can get cockpits in x3 using mods. Just look on their forum, it's hard to miss.

3ds max 2012. It takes advantage of nvidia cards, for the new render engine iray and for the nitrous viewport. ..but it's not really a must..

Yes I will, I'm still playing with mental ray around. The reflections are too futuristic hehe. Maybe I'll try texturing, but I'm really at zero with all that u,v,w nonsense.

For 3ds max, changing to nvidia (CUDA advantages for Iray and nitrous display) would make sense only if you use the 2012 version. A CPU (and mobo apparently) upgrade is good for everything.
