I'm a big fan of the ARMA series and still play it, however I wish that BI would focus all their energies in attempting to release a product that's relatively bug free (or only minor bugs) upon release instead of just making the same game with bugs but just upgraded eye candy.

TIR Question...thinking about buying
WynnTTr replied to cichlidfan's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Call me a skeptic but if it works just as good then why aren't they more prolific? I can safely say that TIR5 is ultra smooth and hasn't lost track no matter how much I fling me head. I use both clip when wearing headphones and the vector when speakers and both work extremely well. I'd like to see some vids of how good the tracking is. Might persuade some scoffers like me to actually give it a shot jsut to check it out - and what are we talking about here, that facetrack or freetrack? I'm at work but I'll have to google some youtube vids about them both and see how they stack up. Mind you though the competitors have to be really good/revolutionary/support more than what TIR offers to knock them off. If something does come out to bury TIR, then I'm sure most of us will just switch over. Not like we're married to Naturalpoint or anything - but let's cross that bridge IF we come to it. So far I'm still waiting for it to be built. -
TIR Question...thinking about buying
WynnTTr replied to cichlidfan's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
When all those other technologies catch up to the precision of my TrackIR 5 then I'll gladly switch. We're PC gamers all of us here so we're not adverse to upgrading and buying new tech. it's not fanboism to stick up for something that works... and works well. Does that facetrack work with the same precision - if I snap my head will it lose the tracking? What if I have a darker face? Do those others support 64bit? As far as Kinect goes when they make it so that it recognises a virtual HOTAS (I can probably simulate sitting down too) then there's really no point in sticking that big sensor on top of my monitor just to do something that TrackIR does already. Unless you've hooked up your xbox to your main PC gaming screen as well, why would you put a Kinect sensor up there? -
Default. I always go default and learn from there. this is in case of reinstallation and I never remember the exact settings I have.
-
What HOTAS you got? If it comes with a twist stick then use that for rudder - still perfectly flyable even for aircraft where rudders are more essential, eg, BS and other helis. Get TrackIR. If it's a fixed stick with no twist then still get TrackIR and map rudder to a slider/button on your HOTAS. Why? Nothing will beat the immersion factor of TrackIR.

TIR Question...thinking about buying
WynnTTr replied to cichlidfan's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It doesn't restrict head movement at all. If want to look left, you turn your head to look left and the view goes with you. It's up to you how much you want TIR to turn. It's all personal preference so I'd suggest you have a look at adjusting your curves to your liking. I had a subconscious problem when I first got mine many, many moons ago: I thought that if I moved my head too much that TrackIR won't work properly. So I ended up looking down with my eyeballs at the KB while keeping my head still. Took me all of two days to realise that if I looked down with my whole head and then looked up TrackIR still tracks that and the view was centred again. You'll soon realise that if you're turning to look at something else then you're not looking at the monitor in front of you anyway so it doesn't really matter what's shown on screen so long as you get the centre view back when you look at the screen again. Latest TrackIR works great in this regard. And if the view doesn't re-centre then just map the re-centre to a HOTAS button and you're set but I've hardly ever had to do so with TIR5. -
It'll be good for us as consumers IF it's released. I ain't holding my breath though.

Then we can truly compare the two sims right? I'm betting that once tacpack is released you'll see a big difference in how weapons and the corresponding avionics are modelled between DCS and FSX. And this is just for the weapons modelling. IMO tacpack will just add another notch as to why FSX just isn't a combat flight sim. Good for flying around and possibly blowing things up Hollywood style via tacpack but there is no way it's going to recreate the in depth simulation that is DCS, Falcon or even FC. So in an nutshell - Iris A-10 ($45) + tacpac ($30) or DCS:A-10 ($60).

Looks good. The lighting is spectacular.

Just tell your wife that this is your hobby and what you enjoy. Then say that the alternative is to get into car restoration or golf or to go down to the pub drinking. Tell her to choose which hobby she prefers you doing money wise.

Yeah I'm hanging for the new career mode as well but I probably wouldn't go so far as calling it a dc. Jason has never confirmed it's a dc and I think he went so far as to say it's not one (can't remember where I read it). Just saying that to allay the hype a little bit - imagine the disappointment when it's released and we find out it's not so dynamic after all. It will no doubt still be outstanding but just not a proper dc. People will pick up on that.

Matrox TripleHead2Go v Nvidia 3D
WynnTTr replied to Mule's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
But then you misread the whole of his post? It's clear that he was implying he wanted the three screen working and that he's "not too interested in the 3D" aspect of it all - he jsut wants the multi screen setup. It's obvious he made a mistake or just wasn't sure about the name of the Nvidia multi screen setup. We all know that T2GO is only a multi-screen setup and that's basically what he was after, which multi screen setup to go for. -

Misread perhaps? If one card is all you can get at the time then definitely an ATI for Eyefinity as you need SLI for Nvidia Surround. If you're doing two cards it comes down to a matter of preference but I'd want at least 2Gb VRAM to deal out the eyecandy when it comes to big three monitor resolutions. -

Just get one 6950 or 6970 and one dp active adaptor and you're set for 3 monitor eyefinity goodness. I've got a 6950 and running my games in 5760x1080 - DCS A-10, BS, RoF, CloD, DA2, Shogun, X3:TC. The only one of my games this single card can't run in eyefinity is FSX. PS: Yes, I know I've got a lot on my list but it caters for every type of gaming mood I'm in. -
Unfortunately you'll have to do your own research about this. ED just provides the tools and the manual on how to use it properly. Everything else is up to the pilot. All the questions you've asked are basic flight questions that all modern flight sims assume that you already know. The best way to learn is to get into an online squadron that's willing to teach you or just youtube what you want to know.

I'll get back into it when the new career mode is introduced. Air quake got boring pretty quick. But on topic, yes for that price everyone must get this game. No if or buts the game is worth it.

ANSWER FROM TM REGARDING WT THROTTLE PROBLEM
WynnTTr replied to Funkyjazz's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I think the problem's been ironed out. I haven't heard of a throttle bricking with latest updates in a while. -
I am sure this question has been asked 100 times, so here 101
WynnTTr replied to StreetcarCoke's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Just sneak it in at work. I renamed the pdf to "Policy" and then printed it out. That way if one of our network guys were to check the print queue or whatever, they'd think it was something I was working on. =) -
Just unwrapped my TM Warthog...
WynnTTr replied to Ptroinks's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That's how it is in the Hog. It's so you can deploy your speed brakes how you want but not have to worry about keeping your finger on the the button to retract them. Just flick it forward and they'll fully retract. You'll find it's invaluable when coming out of a dive. You'll have plenty of other things to think about. -
Even if they brought out a new stick altogether, $500 every two years is a cheap hobby. I'd buy whatever new HOTAS they (or CH) bring out so long as it's the same quality as the WH.
-
Nice writeup Ice but I think as with everything in life, the more practice you get the better you'll get. Give it time and I reckon you'll be able to toss a Mk82 right onto the turret.
-
Maybe it's a curve problem with the profile then? Because I'm using the WH and the trim does not feel over-exaggerated. It's just right in keeping the Hog stabilised with very minor pushes, like when I release ordnance it's only a couple of flicks to get me steady again. never had to compensate for overtrimming in one direction either. Like if I press nose down the aircraft doesn't lurch down suddenly. There is absolutely no way I could "fly" the hog by just using trim.
-
You using the TM:WH? Or another setup?
-
Again you're assuming something. You experience is not the end all and be all and all your opinion is just that - opinion. Other pilots may well find it's spot on. And if you want to be snarky, frankly I'd rather trust what ED with their consultations with relevant SME's (who HAVE flown the Hog) over your opinion. Of course we won't know until we get confirmation from ED but until then to say that this is a "design flaw" is a bit presumptuous. Question: what HOTAS you using?
-
Just to cover all the bases - did you turn on your ils?
