  1. Mustang, I'm trying to read your replies but my eyes keep getting drawn to your avatar.

Think my first sim experience was with F-19 Stealth Fighter. I remember taking off and then flying to my mission, trying to avoid detection, hitting my target then coming out. Can't remember what year that was in but that was my sim cherry.
  3. Check this thread out regarding 64Bit version v 32bit.
  4. That's usually because you can run your finger over every key on the keyboard to find out what something does in game mode - well in most simple games that's how it works.
  5. It's human nature. Everyone is critical of waste at some point in their lives and everyone comments about it. He wasted his life, such a waste of a partner, what a waste of a gym membership. The same principles apply here - you're wasting the potential of the sim by playing in game mode. And the same reactions apply when other people see waste happening, particularly about something that they're passionate about. But in the end like most social commentaries, other people can't do much about it and it's really up to the waster to see if they've got a thick skin about it all.
  6. I had a x52 pro. Very good stick for the money. Very smooth and precise and loved the throttle at the time. Good value for the money - but I wouldn't have paid any more than what I did for it. Pro version has twist rudder.
  7. TIR5 has a bigger camera so it tracks better and is alot smoother right out of the box. It's a more refined TIR5 but TIR4 is still good and does the job really well. You can achieve the same level of smoothness by tweaking your curves. If I had my TIR4 I wouldn't have bought 5 - the performance is almost the same and not worth the upgrade. However my TIR4 fubar'ed on me so I had no choice. If you're on a budget then TIR4 will still do the job fine but as with all hobby things... if you can afford that little bit more...
  8. So it begins.... TrackIR, HOTAS, rudder pedals. Next you'll be wanting to upgrade your GPU to fully appreciate the eye candy, then the CPU because complex sims like this are also CPU dependent. Next you'll be wanting some man cave space and thinking about taking a trip to the hardware store to see what type of frame you can build to better position your HOTAS. All the while you'll be fighting off the stares, glares, frowns of your other half. Your most common words over the next few months will be "But honey...."
  9. I didn't say it was bug free - merely that it was working for me. Smooth frame rates with everything on max, gun doesn't stutter, campaign works, not one crash or freeze. Nothing that has been game breaking. As a final release it's been very good. Known issues to be corrected after release in a patch? Nothing new with this either. I've already said that this is what is needed only - patches/fixes.. not another period of time in beta phase. It's been an outstanding release.
  10. Why is it strange? Just because it might fail for you and some others does it mean that different people, such as myself, might have it running well? Maybe I should find and link the first impression thread or the DCS final thread. Because it has bugs that are now becoming apparent on release does that mean that ED released it intentionally like that? Every patch/fix will bring it's own bugs - that doesn't mean that ED have done it intentionally.
  11. Where have you been game software wise? What games have you payed for that was released and bug free? What piece of "old school" software didn't have patches/fixes... hmm? Name me two, heck, name me one. And yeah you're right. My opinion differs from yours - ED didn't need to have any more betas as this release is working fine for me.
  12. Well said ... .... and much more reasonable than saying that there should be more betas. We wouldn't be enjoying what we have now if there were.
  13. Stop comparing it with a product that's totally unrelated to what this is. Compare it to its peers and related subject matter. That way we get a better picture of the message you're trying to get across. There are different standards that apply to different products and taking one that's not even remotely close to the subject matter doesn't really bring your argument across. Yeah I'd like those jeans but would I buy them if my house was built that way? Doesn't make sense eh? But again, IMO this was a fine release and didn't need any more beta phases. Patches, yes, fixes, yes - but you name one software title (I'm so confident I'm not confining myself to just the games genre) that didn't need any patch/fix.
  14. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=67746 and the fact that it's available on D2D is pretty unequivocal that this is the release version and not a RC. Anything else that comes out relating to this will be patches/fixes, not another entire game client.
  15. Fair enough. IMO, you're observation's wrong. Let's agree to disagree and keep flying.
  16. If that's not a criticism, tell me what is.
  17. So when should they release it? 6 months from now? A year, 2 years? There will always be bugs and new patches will create bugs of their own. Even if the release is generally accepted as bug free (BS came real close to this - still most stable release I've ever seen in a sim) then there will ALWAYS be people who will complain as it's not working for them. The reality is that it's impossible to cater for every single configuration, deviation, customisation of the pc gaming world. It may not be working for you but it's running perfectly for me. I don't think it needed to be in beta anymore and it wasn't released prematurely at all.
  18. You using 32bit OS? Works fine for me on W7 64. Any patch will just be a bonus.
  19. I remember seeing my serial number when I logged into the site and clicked on downloads.
  20. It's visually the same but W7 is the next evolutionary step to Vista - it's what Vista should have been. It's smarter, more efficient, leaves a smaller resource footprint and drivers work. To get an understanding try and install Vista on an old laptop if you have one, preferably one that's about 5 yrs old. See if Vista can run on that. I know W7 ran on my old Acer with 1 Gb ram. People are always upgrading all the time, it's no coincidence that W7 is the OS of choice for PCs. People have always had that choice, just like some chose to stick with XP when Vista was introduced. W7 has surpassed XP for gamers.
  21. That's true. But like in every situation in life there's different brands of stuff. You could buy that LV bag but for the same price you could have bought 3 bags, 2 shoes and a suit at Walmart. And about the X-65, it has no play on the stick at all. I read somewhere that this unnerved real F-16 pilots so much that they made it have slight play now.
  22. No matter what they do, release it now or have betas until next year then release someone is going to have a problem with it - then blame it on ED citing that it's not ready. Funny that the game works wonderfully well for the greater majority of users without issues. Perhaps try to work out your own problems first then come post on the forums. Cos if the problem is really at your end it makes you look like sort of like an ass. Case in point the guy complaining about how the laser would only work in manual mode or people complaining that it's buggy when they've got less than the minimum requirements. To those with problems - fine, post it in the relevant forum and I'm sure it'll be addressed soon. Nate, Ethereal and the others have responded mighty quickly from what I've seen. BUT don't come on here crying that there should have been another beta stage just to iron out your own niggling little problem. Like I said for the majority of us it works fine and is a fine release. If we all want a version that works for everybody we'll just have to wait for DCS:A10 on xbox/ps3.
  23. The $60 is just right imho. It allows the mainstream to buy it cos that's what the mainstream are used to price-wise. Make it any higher and you'll be putting off fence-sitters that are just thinking about it. You'll make it even more niche than what we are already. Not for the rich niche, er.. capiche?
  24. Um tried googling? I don't even live there but the bigger names such as Newegg and Amazon stock them. Might research a little and see if a smaller store stocks them cheaper.
