  1. Only if you miss having fps stutters while firing.. and other 'quirks'. I guess also for sentimentality's sake?
  2. Very happy with mine. Nice just having all the correct buttons/switches/hats where they should be. Really nice and easy to obey the instructor as he tells you "china hat forward" without having to try and remember where I mapped the china hat function. I'd buy this again in a heart beat.
  3. What games are coming out that are in dx11 and multi-threaded? - heck, what games currently out meet those two requirements. Reality check for you - very few are both. It's just not worth the man hours to code for both. Plus it's not viable commercially as you won't be catering for the majority of people out there with older systems. Have you seen the prices for Call of Duty or Hawkx these days? This is cheap compared to that brainless pos. You can say anything you want, buy it or not, no skin off my back. I know what the game is like already and it's definitely worth more than a night out alone, at the pub (which is probably $60).
  4. Nice. This will really help ED in fixing supposed bugs. What bugs are you talking about or did you just come on to troll?
  5. That's nice, thanks for sharing. Was there a problem in that statement that we can help you with? If so, might want to post more information such as specs.
  6. My philosophy is if you can get it now without serious consequences, get it sooner rather than later. Sure you can save up for 3 months or whatever (lets say 3 months) for the money to buy it outright but that's 3 months you could have been using it and you'd still be earning and saving for it regardless. So pay now, have it tonight and fly and put aside $50 per month to make up for it OR put aside $50 per month, not have it to fly and then after three months see what everyone is talking about. Either way you'll still have it in the end and you're still putting money aside for it. If the end result is the same, would you rather have it sooner than later? Even though I detest it, I've bought a couple of things on credit card like that - it's easily worth a few extra dollars in interest if it means I get to play with my new toy months early in advance.
  7. I'd get it cos it's the only up-to-date fighter sim on the market and one that's of the F-18. Call me cyber-shallow but I just can't stand the outdated F4 graphics anymore... no matter what tiles or re-done pit it has. But flying around does get boring pretty quick. DCS: US fixed wing can't come fast enough. So long as it's a fast mover I'll be happy.
  8. SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: DCS:A-10 Causes Addiction, Heart Rate Increase, Adrenaline And May Complicate Marriage.
  9. er.. uh-huh. Sure.
  10. Try asking on the FF forums? Or Freetrack ones? If you ask the FF guys nicely they might code in complete support for Freetrack for you.
  11. Not to fan the flames (maybe a little bit :music_whistling:) but now you know why we play this and other well done combat sims. Doubt the tacpack will ever reach this level of detail and accuracy regarding weapon systems.
  12. Um, DCS:BS is already a completed game. Dunno where you got the idea that it was abandoned. Why do you need an official thread to confirm this? Click on the DCS logo up top, click on the picture of the KA-50 in the sidebar and read the info. Or get on Direct2drive, Steam, or other online stores and search for DCS:BS. Or walk down to your local game shop to see if they stock the disc version.
  13. I keep meaning to build my own mount like Mobius but haven't found the time. So what I did was when shopping with the wife I just looked for a vase stand or pedestal type furniture. Took me a fair bit of looking but found something that was the right height to put the WH on.

I play games as a release and as a medium to let my imagination run free. I slay dragons, throw fireballs, participate in wars and see how good I would be as a combat flyer. But play to simulate routine? No thanks. All those things you mentioned will become routine to any pilot. If I really wanted that I would just sign up with my local flight club and do the real thing. Sorry but my imagination just refuses to factor in routine, rules, regulations, protocols. I get enough of that in the real world. But to sign up as a real Spitfire pilot going up against hundreds of enemy aircraft.... I've tried the civilian flight scene. Fun landing the big jumbos when I first got FS04, it became boring fast even with testing myself with different emergency scenarios. This is an ages old argument but to each their own but as others have stated here - a combat pilot can probably deal with any situation that a civilian pilot can throw at them. Simply because to be good at your game you have to know your aircraft intimately anyway. It's just that a combat pilot, IMO, does find the routine boring. Why be forced to follow it when you can avoid it? I agree though - to be a true master of your aircraft you have to be able to cope with any situation, mundane flight, emergency procedures etc... but in aircraft designed for combat then it's fairly obvious that to claim that you've 'mastered' that type of aircraft it would have to include....combat.

Yes it does. They had to learn the ins and outs of the Spit fast. Real fast. If not master it they had to become really, really good at flying it. They learnt more in their first COMBAT sortie than hours of acrobatic practice - that's a fact acknowledged by them. The ones that survived the first 5 sorties had their survival rate go up exponentially. They then became true masters of their aircraft - able to cope with ANY situation to which combat was the major part. You cannot master the Spitfire, a fighter aircraft designed as a fighter aircraft without going into combat. Give me 9 hours straight in a FSX Spit and I guarantee you I can probably accomplish whatever flying scenario you throw at me. Put me up there against a seasoned 109 pilot (virtual ofc) and I'd probably get shot down promptly.

The plane was relatively easy to fly. RL battle of britain pilots were rushed to the front with only 9 hours flight time in the Spit. Then they were thrown in the deep end and sent up to intercept the Luftwaffe. Most of the Few were school leavers who didn't know a rats arse about flying. They had a week or two in the Tiger moth to learn the basics then had their 9 hours, then were assigned to a fighter squadron. Haven't done it in a Spit, but I've done it in the BS and A-10. Also tried the big planes in FSX. So when I've finally done that in the Spit have I mastered it? This is just another step that you'll just learn. There is no real competition. But to each their own.
  17. Best stick on the market stock. Button/switch/build quality second to none. When you first open this thing there's definitely a wow factor. All other sticks will seem like toys. This does not feel like a mere HOTAS toy. This feels like it was ripped from the A-10 itself and stuck on your desk. Problems with WH as agreed by users on here - A central 'sticktion' around the centre. Not that noticeable unless you require extreme precision. OR you've used a NXT mod for your Cougar. The modded Cougar is still smoother but that's modded. Stock the WH is ultra smooth and precise. Much, much, much moreso than the x52 pro or any other stick. Also acknowleded that this wouldn't be much of a problem for 99% of users. If you're used to a x52 or any other stick other than a modded Cougar than the WH is definitely a huge upgrade in precision. Bricked throttles - for some the throttle has gone completely dead. This is a minor issue though and not the full blown pandemic that some users would make it out to be. I'd say that it's happened to 1-2% of users who bought the WH. If it happens to you just rma it to where you got it from. Ofc the last resort would be contacting TM themselves. It might take a while but I haven't heard of anyone who's contacted them to be refused a replacement. The price - it is pricey but I'd buy it again in a hearbeat. Definitely worth it and it's in a league of its own. If CH build something of this calibre I'd buy that too.

Yeah, how do you know you've mastered a Spitfire without competition? it was an easy plane to fly - you only need slight movements to get it to do what you wanted. So how many cubans do i need to do before I've mastered it? The tacpack ain't going to make FSX a combat flight sim game complete with campaign. Hell I don't know if it's even going to model weapons correctly and accurately. Fire a missile that has no errors or calculations as to velocity, distance to target etc... Will it tie in accurately with the avionics of your chosen downloaded aircraft? Or firing the Spitfire Brownings without taking into account ballistics at high speed etc? I don't know too much about tacpack. Does it do all this or will it just let you generally get the feeling of firing a missile in FSX?
  19. Yeah I can see it now. A teenager grows up playing F4. He gets addicted and qualifies as a fighter pilot for the air force flying real F16's.....then promptly quits and the AF asks why? F4junkie: Are you kidding me?! No DC, no bubble, my actions mean nothing! NOTHING I TELL YOU!
  20. Yeah sorry, that's what I meant - make sure you're properly grounded no matter what. Maybe I shouldn't have referenced that with static frying but I have had a couple of experiences (non computer related) in the early days where the only thing that's probably saved my life is the safety switch.

How can you determine when you're master of your aircraft w/o some good ol' competition? I see your point though - and this has been the ages old argument of MSFS v combat pilots. To each their own. There are some people who just love flying the BS just for the flying. Myself, I start nodding off after about 10 minutes of just flying and nothing else happening.
  22. You still going on about this Cali - seems like we're going in circles. Sure, there are product problems but what product doesn't have one. And with all current data, bricked throttles are a very, very minor problem. We've been through this ad nauseum and yet you still like to bring it up in a WH thread. You like to think that it's a "huge issue" currently affecting the WH when in reality it's not. if it happens to you rma it either with where you bought it or TM themselves. Dunno about laws in other countries but I can return it to my store where I bought mine from which is about 20 mins drive from where I am thankfully. But you go right on thinking that the WH is inherently flawed. I'll just keep flying with it.
  23. Thought that would be rule #1 when handling components - make sure you're perfectly grounded. I remember in my early days frying a couple of mobos and a spanking new Voodoo card learning the hard way.
  24. There is no stick jump. The only problem is a very slight "stickation" around the centre - which as acknowledged by the ones that notice would not be noticeable bar those that require extreme precision such as formation flying or those that are particularly fussy with their sticks. Did you mod your cougar with NXT? It's been acknowledged that the WH comes close to this level of smoothness and if it weren't for the slight stickation near the centre it would probably be perfect. Some have given up their modded cougars for the WH cos the build quality is just superior in all fronts. Other than that there is no axis spike, jump, whatever and the components, switches, buttons are second to none.
  25. In conflict, direct confrontation will lead to engagement and surprise will lead to victory. Those who are skilled in producing surprises will win. Such tacticians are as versatile as the changes in heaven and earth. And as inexhaustible as the flow of a great river or like the sun and moon, appearing and disappearing and the four seasons, one cycle after another. They are like the five music notes; combinations that produce endless melodies, like the five colours: mixture that produces a variety of beautiful objects. In directing a conflict, there is only ambush or direct confrontation. Yet their combinations produce a variation of possible battle plans.
